lying in an office chair. And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly fans praising Nick, and saying, glory to Nick in the highest, and on earth laughs and good gossip toward men."
"And there were in the same country teens abiding on the beach, keeping watch over their age by night. And, lo, the angel of Nick came upon them, and the glory of Nick shone round about them, and they were sore afraid. And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you tidings of great comedy, which shall be to all people. For unto you is born this day in the city of LA, a savior, Dan Schneider the Lord. And this shall be a sign unto you, Ye shall find the man wrapped in a suit
Religion is totally NOT what I took away from this as a kid. It was about appreciating things in spite of their appearance and searching for a deeper meaning in something.
Fun Fact #2 - This show almost didn't even air because network execs thought it was too slow. And the fact that actual children did the voices made it seem less professional. They allowed it to air, and a good thing they did, now it's a cult classic!
The religion of atheism once again shows how they have such a hatred of people with faith. They have such an intolerance of other peoples beliefs and cultures.
I know people who just do not believe in God, and they do not have this hatred that these freedom from religion people have. I honestly believe that the reason for their fear is that inside they have a genuine belief in God, and fear what is going to happen to them. Its the only explanation for this type of behavior.
Hope you had a Great Christmas have a listen to our Christmas Audio Book IT'S A WONDERFUL LIFE ON 34th STREET. If we can get the funding this Story will make CHRISTMAS even more special. Please pass it around and hopefully one day it will get to SPIELBERG.
Schulz had to fight to keep this scene in. Even in 1965 saying that there is a Christ in Christmas would be controversial. Can't we all just leave each other alone?
Hallelujah! Charles Schultz tells it like it is! Praise God for sending His Son, Jesus Christ, to save us from our iniquities! Glory to God in the highest! :D
It seems to me that they've explained it to you in a way even a child could understand, but in you're heart all you want to be is humanist, and that is all. I hope you had a Merry Christmas.
This is the best Christmas show ever - and how cool is Linus.....even as a child I enjoyed his telling, and now it has such a special place in my heart. Teach your children well. Merry Christmas - peace on earth, good will toward men.
Charlie Brown was frustrated with all the commercialism Christmas was (and still is) and was struggling to find any sense of joy from the holiday as it can sometimes get lost or buried. Once Linus reminded him of what Christmas truly is, Charlie was able to feel happy and all the other stuff going on seemed insignificant. Christmas is about giving and Linus gave Charlie Brown and invaluable gift that he needed at the moment. I'm a Christian and this passage of scripture is invaluable to me too.
From Luke chapter 2 verses 6-14. Schultz was a Christian, and he meant what he meant, no matter how anyone else feels (God save us from Americans' petty feelings).
Christmas -- sorry -- no it is NOT a co-opted pagan holiday. It might be co-opted but it is NOT a pagan holiday. The bishops of the church purposely chose to blot out the pagan holiday for the Christian faithful. Revisionist history is repressive. Americans think that they get to pick and choose what things mean based on their inane, petty, childish feelings. How's that for tolerance? Christmas means men are in need of a Savior. It does not mean what you want it to mean. That is narcissistic.
One...Christmas is NOT the Birth Date of Jesus Christ. December was the Date of an Annual Pagan Festival usually described as a Drunken Orgy. The date was hijacked by some early ancient Christmas as the date to celebrate the birth of Jesus. It's another lie told and perpetuated by the Church. It's very cold in that part of the world and shepards would not have been out. No one know when Jesus was born..but we are just thankful that he was.
@scottacek , Then may I ask why you viewed this video? I do not mind your own opinion one bit but when it disrespects others is when it's a problem. Respect the believers even though you aren't one.
This special a couple years ago literally saved Christmas for me. I had grown to hate this time of year, the commercialism of this time, families arguing, it ate at the joy I had always felt as a kid. I just wanted Christmas to go away. But Linus and Charlie Brown reminded me the true meaning we celebrate this day, with this very speech, and for that I'm forever grateful. Merry Christmas everyone, and Happy New Year.
the reason its called "Christmas" is because someone wanted to celebrate the birth of Jesus to get rid of the pagan winter Solstice celebration. Both are fine celebrations, mix and match and boom - Christmas. Obviously the idea didn't work the way it was intended, we still have evergreens, elfs, white lights, trumpets, gift exchanges...but so what, that's how things happen. I'm a Christian, and I can tell you how many times it says Christmas in the bible. ZERO
@destructo71 And guess how many times it says easter? zero. I guess it's ridiculous for Christians to celebrate that holiday too. Or we could all just decide to throw aside our issues and enjoy this time of year like we are intended to. Sharing goodwill towards your fellow man and not getting offended by anyone who disagrees with you.
Both sides of the argument below are ridiculous. Christmas is a co-opted pagan holiday, sure. It has meaning for Christians, but also it can have meaning for everybody. Linus would want you to all get along. Beautiful clip, amazing moment in TV.
You know, if you don't like the religious aspect of the holiday, you don't HAVE to watch this video. You could have very easily watched a clip from How the Grinch Stole Christmas or something like that. For us Christians, it's the Nativity of our Lord, and if you're not comfortable with that, don't celebrate it. But don't get mad when the simple majority in a democratic republic decide they want to keep it Christmas.
@Postan1 It doesn't. However most censuses were taken in the winter, and December 25th was chosen as the day to CELEBRATE Jesus' birth. It's not necessarily the exact day. Now stop trying to stir up trouble and enjoy yourself!
@epanecka If you are correct, they why do Christians get so worked up when other people treat Christmas as a day that has nothing to do with Jesus? Seems to me that July 17 is as good a day to celebrate the birth of the likely mythical Jesus as any other...
But it does bring about an interesting question to ponder. If the story of Jesus is so important, why, oh why, would the writers forget an important detail like the date?
@HumanistDad Simply put,the Bible is and never was about math equations and or dates. 70 times 7 thousand is not about a specific numerical outcome. Alas,it is about how one should always forgive no matter the circumstances. Jesus spoke in parables, and without a parable He did not speak. This not to confront or contest anybody. Not my style. James
@maonofsorrows777 But it is my style to not let claims go unchallenged. The Bible is not about forgiveness; it is about the unquestioning obedience to authority (especially the Old Testament). You may believe that the New Testament is an improvement about peace, love and forgiveness, but it is here where we learn about the worst punishment of all to non-obedience - everlasting Hell.
@HumanistDad "The style of fighting without fighting" Bruce Lee *I don't believe in the Catholic ideology of everlasting hell. I do however, believe that hell is the state of non-existence or annihilation. Seperation from God eternally. Bruce Lee had it right. Peace
@HumanistDad "One person considers one day more sacred than another; another considers every day alike. Each of them should be fully convinced in their own mind. Whoever regards one day as special does so to the Lord." - Romans 14:5-6. The day we Christians choose to observe the birth of Jesus had more to do with Saturnalia and other solstice feasts than history. I don't think it matters much when it is observed, but it does help as a Christian to see fellowship and overall goodwill.
The date is unimportant.... you are not focusing on the important details. But maybe that is why you are a humanist.... if we are all we've got... we're screwed... Thank God for sending Jesus to save us!!!

If you could just thumbs this up and give me a chance I'd appreciate it
Thanks, and we will do anything we can to help you too :)
If I was Christian, I would say that Jesus and his teachings was the greatest gift of all. The best gift I could give anyone would be to live each day under his message of peace, love and charity....But I ain't Christian. Just sayin :P
NOW DAYS, CHARLIE BROWN AND THE WHOLE PEANUT GANG HAVE TURNED, " POLITICALLY CORRECT!" JUST TAKE A LOOK IN THE STORE, WHERE YOU SEE SNOOPY, CAHRLIE BROWN, LUCY, OR LINUS! THEIR CAPTIONS ALL SEEM TO GO WITH THE TIMES OF TODAY! THEY HAVE CORRUPTED, WHAT WAS ONCE A CARTOON THAT HAD SOME GOOD MORALS! I GUESS I WOULD HAVE CHARLIE BROWN ASKING, " ISN'T THERE ANYONE HERE, THAT CAN TELL ME WHAT GOOD MORALS ARE ALL ABOUT?!
you know what i hate... you get excited for Christmas and you have those that put you out of the Christmas spirit and talk about all the downs. there like oh you don't deserve those gifts. your selfish. how the hell am i selfish if someone gives me a gift???? you would be selfish not to receive it. and all there work of geting that gift would be crushed... its a time of giving...
you know it's been a long time since I was a kid but when I watched this on the two channels we had I looked forward to christmas I don't think kids realize anymore what christmas is thier parents are too busy worrying about how they are suppost to act or on drugs or they don't even care at all? it feels like the year without a santa clause!
believe me I KNOW and i dont give 2 shits about being politically incorrect. USA has gone mad with this whole politically correct statement. I will say Merry Christmas whenever i want, ill say what i want to say, WHITE PEOPLE ARENT AS RACIST AS MOST BLACK PEOPLE! ill pray and respect my God and Lord Jesus Christ in public and wherever i please.
@chroylikesfish I hear you my friend. People get offended so easily these days. I honestly have a lot of respect for anyone who isn't afraid to stand up for what they believe in, though nobody should really be afraid to show what they believe in the first place. Ah how society has changed....
haha the other day i was watching something on ABC family where they were trying to rename Christmas "Winter Treasure Day" LIKE REALLY!!!! that made me so mad
@chroylikesfish Political correctness is idiocy. I one worked at a company where we could not celebrate Thanksgiving. But, "Fall Harvest" was perfectly acceptable.
Like this clip and I also like Christmas Eve and Santa Claus and Christmas trees and presents and snow falling and being with family and friends... and I bet Linus does too. and Charlie brown and Snoopy and Woodstock.
@Madelyn525 It's not his birthday. It's the celebration of his birthday. He was actually born in springtime. His birthday is celebrated on Christmas because there were way too many pagan celebrations in spring.
I vote Linus for President, he can hit a can with his blanket, and he puts his blanket down during speeches, that's all we need for a good president lol
Hey people... for those of you maybe wanting an expanded answer that Linus might give as an adult, why not check out a series of entries within this category/archive?
This applies to you folk who grapple with the larger significance of Christmas and who are probably burned out from the commercial circus it has become. Peace.
@RespectNOAuthority1 When it applies to Christmas, yes. But that's of little use to a Hanukkah-observing Jew or someone wishes only to celebrate the solstice.
It gets so busy around Christmas, and so expensive. Sometimes I forget what it means to celebrate this magical season. Watching the Charlie Brown special takes me back to my youth and peels away some of the complications of adulthood that clutter my feelings about Christmas. When the time comes for Linus' recital I get choked up every time. It reminds me to relax and simply enjoy this time. "For behold! I bring you tidings of great Joy!" Merry Christmas everyone.
You know, it seems like as the season draws near more and more people seem to lose track of the spirit of the holidays. That's when I watch this, and I'm reminded of what's important in life. Peace, not Presents. Love, not Lights. Thank god we have people who haven't lost sight of that, and they have the good sense to remind us in ways such as this, and for that I say thank you.
@dotsyjmaher Exactly. I've wondered about how this got let onto the public airwaves. Glad it did. The season doesn't start for me without this sweet little story that makes me laugh and cry without fail.
Thank you for posting this! I have watched this video every year since I was 7 yrs. old in 1965. This scene is my favorite! Merry Christmas to one and all!
In our 5th grade Christmas show (a million years ago) I read this passage on stage like that! It's still one of the highlights of my life and such a beautiful passage! Happy memories!
(part 2)

I'm an atheist and I love this video. It's very endearing, and earnest. Two things I don't see in many of the Christians commenting on this video.

believe me I KNOW and i dont give 2 shits about being politically incorrect.
The US goverment should not be trusted

@chroylikesfish I hear you my friend. People get offended so easily these days. I honestly have a lot of respect for anyone who isn't afraid to stand up for what they believe in, though nobody should really be afraid to show what they believe in the first place. Ah how society has changed....

haha the other day i was watching something on ABC family where they were trying to rename Christmas "Winter Treasure Day" LIKE REALLY!!!! that made me so mad
chroylikesfish 1 month ago
@chroylikesfish Political correctness is idiocy. I one worked at a company where we could not celebrate Thanksgiving. But, "Fall Harvest" was perfectly acceptable.

@chroylikesfish not because of Christ or religion, though

@wei495 how would you actually know without talking first hand to him? Maybe christmas really is his birthday?
TheUnknownCraze57 1 month ago
@Madelyn525 It's not his birthday. It's the celebration of his birthday. He was actually born in springtime. His birthday is celebrated on Christmas because there were way too many pagan celebrations in spring.

I can't believe Network TV hasn't cut this out by now with the way they give in to vilifying anything religious at this point.

@tapkae That's why it's called "Merry Christmas, Charlie Brown".

I bring you tidings of great Joy!" Merry Christmas everyone.
bgerardm 1 month ago
You know, it seems like as the season draws near more and more people seem to lose track of the spirit of the holidays. That's when I watch this, and I'm reminded of what's important in life. Peace, not Presents. Love, not Lights. Thank god we have people who haven't lost sight of that, and they have the good sense to remind us in ways such as this, and for that I say thank you.
