  • its called a chrysails you idoiot! NOT A COCOON!

  • @MrsOC5 You can't even spell idiot right, so shut up.

  • @MudkipKirby I'm so sorry! My 7 year old son left that comment.....Your video is really cool and he's grounded : )

  • @MrsOC5 It's not his video, and that doesn't deserve a grounding :)

  • That's so cool! We had a monarch caterpillar on our tomato plant getting ready to turn into a pupa... he was hanging upside down already. I wish my kids got to see this happen. If not, I can just let them watch this video!

  • it's a metapod (gasp) go pokeball yes i got a metapod

  • who finds it funny how people compare Pokemon and these videos about insects?

  • Not me, its coincidental because Pokemon is actually based on collecting insects, so it does make sense.

  • Caterpie is Evolving

    (Drum Roll)

Congratulations Your Caterpie Successfully Evolved into a Metapod......

  • Imagine being born twice! 2nd time with a nice pair of wings how kool!!

  • looks exactly like a zerg mutalisk cocoon

  • what happens to it at the begining!?

  • @XXXVIIIXCIV

    It shed its skin.

Once it's inside the cocoon, it basically digests himself from the inside out. Yeah, it's not great :/

  • I always thought this process took longer than 2 seconds..

  • LEGS? Where we're going we don't need LEGS!!!

  • im not an insect biologist or whatever but i thought butterflies spat out a silk or something to cocoon themselves from ass to head, not shed a shell head to ass like a snake, inform me.

  • @darknessahead520 Butterflies make a chrysalis, which is basically them molting and remaining inside. Moths make cocoons.

  • @silenceisgod ah donke =]

  • Caterpie - Metapod ;D

  • :O

  • How long does it take exactly?

  • The part that grosses me out the most is the outside of the caterpillar being shrunken and falling off. How does that work?

  • i used to find these alot as a kid. Id open them up. I found some interesting things inside lol

  • @iiHateSouljaBoy Poor Caterpillar.....I didn't even get to be a butterfly XD

  • @iiHateSouljaBoy Omfg, That comment was the most disturbing thing i've read in my life. I felt that urge of ew.

  • @HDxZerzavy Hahaha

  • @iiHateSouljaBoy Like dead ass though >_<

  • This.. This is amazing! I just thought that they, like, build it around themselves, but no, they turn into the thing.

  • Cool video!

  • amazing! the music is great too!

  • This is beautiful it made me appreciate my life!

  • @asfuckasgator Poison Sting ??

  • That caterpillar is cute as a pupa.

  • Can somebody please tell me the song name i think it's absolutlyfrigginawesome! please anyone .

  • eew

  • nature is awesome. five stars i love caterpillars

  • Song name?

  • I think he was arranging his pad in there.

He had to move his 5cm plasma screen TV, his sofa, his clothes, his stuff.

No wonder it took 3 hours. :)

  • Wow, that was pretty damn awesome

  • Looks like some diseased penis gettin its foreskin pulled back

  • That's kinda creepy but cool. And do biologists know what caterpillars look like inside the cacoon?

  • @therox94 They turn into a liquid before reforming as a butterfly.

  • Sorry, it's a chrysalis. Don't call people stupid. Excellent video!

  • stupid its a cyrsilas not a cocoon

  • nature really couldn't be cooler.

  • anyone ever wonder what the caterpillar looks like when its inside the chrysalis?

  • great idea for the "In The Womb" series

  • Isn't a chrysalis not a cocoon?

    Nice video anyway :)

  • Nope. A cocoon is only made by moth worms, The cocoon goes over the crystalist. Catapillars only make a crystalist.

  • Thanks. I didn't know there was a difference.

  • i found 2 monarch caterpillars today and i bought a butterfly box with breathing holes and i put some grass with sticks and the plant they were on in the box and my dad let me put one in their,

  • thats pretty interesting

  • It looks painful

  • how we know is the time that caterpillar wan 2 change 2 cocoon ??

  • I don't remember too well, but my class did an experiment where we bred monarch caterpillars and I think my teacher said that they go to the highest spot they can, and hang upside down in a J formation.

  • Moth caterpillars make cocoons and then make a chrysalis inside it and this is making a chrysalis.

  • Thats just how unique the Monarch is. I think the queen does it too.

  • This stunning.. how did you capture it ? I'd like to know...

  • wow... =)

  • Actually it's not a cocoon. Cocoons are made out of silk and spun around the insect. Chrysali sort of "grows" out of the insect. They're pretty cool.

  • Well inside the chrysalis once forming is another caterpillar, which from what I heard, melts down inside the shell and reforms into the butterfly. I've seen a few Gypsy Moth caterpillars make chrysalids like that, but others just make flimsy silken cocoons to cover their pupas.

  • This video gives an explanation of how it goes from 0:06 to what we think of as the real Monarch crysalis.

I thought it naturally happened: I didn't think that the thing squirmed around more (I only looked at still pictures while studying how to raise these things.)

  • Unlike a cocoon, a chrysalis can become transparent in its final stage when the butterfly finishes developing and then breaks out.

  • Caterpie evolved to Metapod! lol

  • disgusting

  • That was amazing!!! Great job on the video!!

  • wow this was amazing

I have one of these at home and wondered how it loos

    thanks for the video

  • That was the best one so far!!! Thanks!!
