  • This isn't really cruel, especially if it's just a 'tap' and not a hit, but it's not necessary with puppies, or most other dogs. It's completely normal for puppies to nip, it doesn't mean their biting with aggression, they just like to chew by nature. When it comes to young puppies you really shouldn't be shouting or being tough. If they try to 'bite' you, let out a squeal, or cover your hand and very calmly but firmly say 'no' or 'no biting' and move away. They will most likely grow out of it.

  • i dear you to do that with a fully trained swat dog

  • LOL you got to be kidding .. when a puppy bites you make a loud noise simulating a squeal so the dog will realize he hurt you or is hurting you ..do it a few times and the biting stops this techniques comes from what a pack does dog hurts another dog the injured dog squeals and the aggressive dog backs off never strike of hit a dog especially a puppy unless you want more aggressive behavior in the long run why not just kick the dog .typical unfortunaltely another pit bull misinformed trainer ?

  • does this work on pitbull puppies ? becouse honestly , mine is really agressive , and when he catches something , or someone , he just won't stop biting. I don't won't to hurt him or anything , so...

  • @TaniiaMoreira dont do what he sugested when u hert the dog it will make him ashamed and he wont listen try using a difrent techenic target his good behavior not his bad

  • Worked great on my Pit bulls puppies, great advice

  • Thank you I will try that . My puppy trys to bite our face . Your clothes ur wearing he chews it. It listens when I say Marley no go to bed he goes to his bed or be care full or play nicely when his round the kids ...but he still does it sometimes. .

  • @bimbimbutterbean Deliberately trying to bite your face is an extremely dangerous trait which requires immediate attention. If that happened to a small child they could be seriously and possibly permanently disfigured. I would suggest a consultation with your vet as a matter of urgency.

  • animal abuse really does it look lyk hes hurting the dog in any way??

  • man he is not mean to his dog look at the koehler method thats cruel

  • just tap him on the nose

  • This works great with my dog. Thank you so much. My dog tends to get a little hyper when he first sees me. One time he bit my hand so hard that I could barely use it for a day. Now when he does it, I tap him lightly on the jaw and he stops.

  • Man You Killed the puppy

  • dog abuse...........

  • this bauld man is himself a dog..........

  • You can train a dog to do anything without ANY physical conditioning. Maybe you should watch some real professional training videos.

  • i tried this... my pit bit me even harder

  • Thanks for your advice, but no thank you. I would never hit my dog in the jaw..

  • ok yes this will work with quite a few dogs but im not a fan of doing this as they can end up with a bad jaw or they could bite their tongue and if you have a older dog that starts to nibble this may make him worse a stern no command and removing your hand will work just as well and when he stops or moves away from your hand reward him with a clicker if you have one and his fave treat. im not an expert but my dogs were all highly trained by possitive reinforcements hope this helps

  • It's not animal abuse, but many dogs, especially the breeds he mentions respond to that action with increased adrenaline levels because it can encourage play. There are many, many other techniques that are more effective and can be utilized without ever laying your hand on a dog.

Many people reference the "mother dog," but have you ever actually stopped and watched a mother? Dog, Cat, Lion, Bear, etc. Most times the mother will ignore the cub, kitten, pup to the point of agitation...

  • Pit bull

  • animal abuse ? he didnt punch the dog in the face stop over reaction he tapped the dog same way a mother dog would actually amother dog would bite puppy way harder then that , anyoneknow what kinda dog that is ? bulldog ?

  • dog hit ur dog

  • You have to be firm with your dog and use methods like this to make them stop! It's like us being spanked for doing something bad when we were little.

  • Jeez, you people are sensitive! I'm not a fan of how he does it, but it isn't even that bad...

  • Animal abuse

  • Mother dog grab their pups on the mouth to teach them to stop biting so holding the mouth does indeed work

  • How to teach dogs not to destroy things

  • basically animal abuse

  • ur basically punching your dog in the jaw to get them to stop biting you ? thats mean !

  • @nibindringiel Almost agreed, pulling a way doesn't work, dogs do not rationalize and they don't know what you like or dislike.

What you should do is to distract your dog with something else, like a bone.

Once he stopped biting, reward him with padding and you have created a positive experience.

Moreover, sometime dogs just put our hand in their mouth but they don't really bite it, this is the way they express affection, this is the most intimate moment you could possibly have with your dog.

  • I heard many things about how to stop your puppy from biting and hitting them won't work, they will eventually be scared of you, and sometimes going them a chew toy makes them think they get a reward when they bite you. My puppy's vet recommended the squirt bottle method.

  • @nibindringiel

What do you recommend? I heard giving them a chew toy encourages them to bite because I am rewarding it for mouthing my hand.

  • Glad this is here on YT so everyone knows to avoid this person and his school like the plague.

  • this is not dogtraning.... it can hit the dog's tongue. please don't try out this trick..

  • this might seemcruel, well it is but it still works and you only have to do it 5 or 6 time before it starts to work

  • Are you kidding? And this guy thinks he's a dog trainer? That is ridiculous. Surely people don't take their animals to "Miami Dog Training" and this goof.

  • But I do agree that baiting a dog to hit it is a little off.

  • Yes puppies are child-like, but there not children. No need to keep comparing this method of training to beating a baby. You do not train kids and puppies in the same way. The process is similar only in the fact that you should do it with care and be looking towards there happy and safe future. However the methods of achieving this are different with each. Plus this is not a Toy dog breed.

  • try a squirt bottle folks. I have 3 pits 2 lab pit mixes a hound and a new 4 and a half month old lab just rescued 3 weeks ago. ALL HOUSE dogs and I'm 35 with this being my 30th personal kept rescue. I have NEVER Had to thump, nudge, tap, punch or whatever the hell you want to call this to ANY of the dogs I have had. I use a squirt bottle, and positive reinforcement, and TIME. I don't throw my dogs in the yard for 16 plus hours. They are part of our family and sleep in the house.

  • problem is, u cant teach ur kid to hit the dog...if ur worried about the puppy biting u then u dont need a dog. lol this is useless for family people with small children.

  • all u guyz hating on this video..shut it n be thankful he even givin u guyz advice...all dogs are different..some learn this way and some learn in a better way without hitting...for me my blue pit i have used to bite wen he was puppy then i started to give a flick to his nose n he never bit me agen..but it took a while..da dog had to get used to...dnt judge da way dis guy trains his dog cuz itz not even dat intense...

  • I see, your parents must have slapped your mouth to shut you up lol. ....dude!!! What the hell....

  • so you are saying i should uppercut my king charles puppy...not gonna happen!

  • @nibindringiel i COMPLETELY agree... thats what is called "teasing" a dog. you NEVER tease a dog, especially when its a puppy. It can have the same effect as it would on humans, getting frustrated, aggressive and etc... All you have to do is like what you said, just pull away and tell them directly "NO" (my lil 4 year old sister knows better training than him, as well do i!)

  • I suppose this would work if you had a particularly nasty puppy that you were having trouble getting through to, but the whole 'it helps to bait them into biting' is just off. Why would anyone do that? I honestly think that this is a last ditch method and if you take an extra few minutes, you should be able to find a much better video on the topic.

  • cmon every one lets upercut our dogs

  • Do you have any tips on how to stop or teach puppies not to bite eachother?

  • Yeah man brilliant video but i dont believe the bop is nessicary, its important to let dog have your hand in its mouth thats a good way to show them to be gentle

  • omgosh thats a bit mean? u nugged its chin quite hard for a puppy,im a nattinoal dog trainer and i do mouthing for dogs, the way i do it, is as they have not developed verrrry sharp teeth it may not hurt so alli do is let it bite as mutch as it wants then i reward it for doing what i asked it to do, and when they mouth its because their ears and their gums hurt because their growwing propper teeth while the others fall out,

  • I thought you were never supposed to "trick" your dog into doing something bad. Isn't that kind of like setting them up for failure?

  • Puppies are cute.

  • This isn't how to train a dog your hitting the dog way to hard why don't u just stick with putting ur hand in da mouth den say "OUCH" like normal people do

  • this is trying to train a dog through human logic! NO. Train your dog with puppy logic, because if they dont understand then its only creating new behaivor issues.

  • Sorry I don't agree with this a puppy grows out of it by ignoring the pup each time they bite. Just don't encourage biting. And just get your pup a teething gel n teething toy muppet!

  • @nibindringiel I have a German Separd tht wld laugh at me and keep biting is I just "ignored it". Bigger more aggresive breds need firmer corrections such as this.

  • @SumTHinLik3San3 i agree with you

  • I have a 2 and a half month English Bulldog and his name is Charlie and I would never hurt him!!!!!! :'(

  • this dosent work she just bites me more when i do it!!!! and hitting a dog is the worst thing to do

  • U should never a dog plus my dog is trained and my dog is a german shperd

  • my puppy thinks im playing and gets even more hyper and bites me more -.-

  • never try that, its like knocking your kid in the head

  • hitting a dog ESPESIALLY young ones is NEVER OKAY, it simply just makes them be afraid of you instead of respecting our authority. "force dose not constitute right"- jean jacque rousseau

  • It's better to set the pup up for success than to ask him to bite you, then punish him for doing what you clearly asked. That's how some dogs grow up to be nervous and sulk around all the time because they think they did something bad when they really didn't. Some dogs take it the opposite way, and learn to be too rough with people. A better way would be to just have a toy nearby, and consistently replace your hand for the toy every time he mouths on your hand.

  • @nibindringiel That is called Punishment based training. Very obsolete and not very efficient. Look up Dr. Ian Dunbar DVD's online. Titled "Aggression" Biting. Look them up on Amazon.com or dogwise.com

Or look for a trainer under apdt.com

Pinching ears, hitting dog or animal anything has been proven scientifically to break the bond. Compulsion training has use in certain cases but definitely not on a puppy so young.

  • @DANPOLO1 I am aware of what punishment based training is. And allthough I am much more impressed by reward based training, I know how you can use punishment and get results. However, stuffing your hand in the mouth of a young puppy and then punishing it for your actions is not training. It is completely useless for anything other than creating distrust in the pup. He might get a seemingly obidient dog in the end, but all the dog learns is to be passive in order to avoid discomfort. Sad!

  • @mapplin2242 Pinching ears, hitting dog or animal anything has been proven scientifically to break the bond. Compulsion training has use in certain cases but definitely not on a puppy so young.

  • Don't do like this man. This is not good dog training, if you can call it training at all.

  • That is animal abuse u don't fricken hit a dog on their jaw!

  • Yeah, that'll work, hit the dog, great advise

  • so basicly, smash the dogs jaws in??? o.O

  • you are stuped! when you dont know how to train a dog, you hit the dog and everithink is ok. the sad is that you are calling yourselfs dog trainners. go to a good trainner school and learn how to be a corect trainner!

  • I´ve been in Florida! but never to Miami how is Miami? is it nice over there? :D

    btw that´s a relly cute puppy! ^^

  • my dog bites my ankles when i walk around! it hurts like crap but i cant do anythign bout it >.<!!

  • This guy is a prick and needs to be stoped from keeping animals.

That is not the way to treat a dog.

  • Personly this method didn't work for my little beagle, because once I did that, he began to think it was a game, and not as a punishment. Other people might have diffrent views on your training methods, but I personly like your methods of training, but on this occasion it didn't seem to work.

  • @mapplin2242 IM WITH YOU ON THST ONE

  • That poor puppy didn't understand!!! He didn't bite and didn't understand why he was getting bopped. I can see a slight bop on the nose for actual teething and mouthing, but it was dumb to do that to a puppy just for a video. The puppy will be confused if you "Trick" it into biting you.

  • This makes no sence. You encourage the puppy (who is this case has no desire to mouth you) to bite your fingers, even sticking your fingers in it's mouth, then when you take your fingers away you hit it to correct them. So your correcting the puppy after the fact, after he has let go of your fingers.

    Talk about confusing the dog.

  • bbuuuuuuu

  • While your finger is not in their mouth :L:L:L:L

  • Thumbs up if you would like to give this douche a "bop" on the chin

  • Oh yes, teach them pain and fear from their guardian right form the beginning, Then they are set up to receive leash pops with choke collars and prong collars and to need a shock collar for any kind of recall. Ever heard of Dr. Ian Dunbar? Google is your friend.

  • This is a really bad technique! Not only does it not work, it also uses punishment rather than redirection and positive reinforcement. There are lots of other videos on YouTube that show the more reliable technique, and one that doesn't hurt the dog or cause it any physical displeasure.

  • I tryed the nose tap on my ridgeback been dooing it for like 2 mnths now and it hasnt worked if anything it has made him repell even more, anyone got any ideas that ACCTUALLY work?

  • @ogglepuss YES! lol try looking up clicker training on you tube.. there are a bunch of videos about stopping this behavior(kikopup is a you tuber who does a good how to vidoe). im sure your ridgeback is very smart and prob likes to work when properly motivated. clicker training teaches them that if they do what you want then good things happen for them.which makes them WANT to do as you ask so they can get the reward, be it treats, praise, or a special toy. hope this helps! =)

  • @ogglepuss Hi I found that leashing your dog to a door in your room for 10 mins, and walking away from your dog and then ignoring it while it can see you has been very effective. After the 10mins go back to the dog, if it starts to bite again, repeat the process the dog quickly associates that biting will result in no interacting with its owner and its freedom taking away. When the dog finally stops biting you release it and reward it with interacting with the dog again..and giving it praise.

  • poor doggyyy =( dont hit it... eespecially if its a chihuahua like mine!

  • Good way to make your dog aggressive! Someone should pop you in the mouth every time you speak asshole.

  • how do i stop a vicious stranger dog from biting me? grab its neck?

  • all dogs use there mouths as their main tool. like hands. you shouldn't be posting dog training tips, rooky

  • @Tunknatar learn to spell. and the puppy wasnt hurt. shuddup. geez people will complain about everything. stop crying

  • I agree with sunset7up! Thats cruel hitting a puppy coz then when you got to then stroke the puppy another time they will think ur gonna hit them so they will bite u!

  • Thanks for the information!

  • your puppy looks well cool

  • just tried this n my pit and she stopped haha

  • u look like goldberg....

  • It worked on my whores but my puppy didnt quite get the message.

  • didnt work

  • Good information

  • I would never do this! I'd give a high pitch yelp like another puppy would, take my hand away quickly, and ignore the puppy for a few minutes until I was ready to continue to play.

  • my dog is a shih-tsu and hes 1 year old and he bites but he doesnt force his best but some times it actualy hurts would it work if hes not a puppy? please awnser this is my first dog and i wana be a good owner.

  • well it stopped my dog loving me.

  • My dog think it's a game xP

  • actually did work with my pursie

  • Helpful..

  • This is horrible!! Please do NOT do this with your dogs!

  • doesnt work on my rottie...just makes him more nippy....not a good thing =/

  • yeah really bad idea to use physical force on them, i have a boxador and if they bite you, and do that your asking for a fight. Best way is to yelp like another pup would, show them they used to much pressure and immediatly seize playing. Nipping is a sign of them wanted to play. Just make a loud noise to distract them if possible....or throw a book across the room. Then replace the object with a chew toy. Only way man i swear lol

  • Dude since you are a dog trainer can you send me some pics of a 1 month old labror dog pls

  • OMG what awful advice! You dont use adversise methods to train a dog, especially not a puppy!

Bite inhibition is not taught by smacking a dog. All this will do is create a potentially fearful dog, or even turn what is merely play, into aggression.

There are some really ignorant and stupid trainers out there that know nothing about canine behaviour.

  • Whats the breed? The puppy and the opening dog?

  • ive been trying this for a while and my puppy is learning fast thak you

  • i cant do it my puppy is the size of a gunni pig and i cant he is to cute

  • We got a beagle puppy just a while ago. I'm trying this on him but i end up doing it too hard because he's so little. Any suggestions?

  • Puppies are just mouthing cuz they are growing their adult teeth so they have to bite on something so it eases out the pain or something like that. That's what it said on a piece of paper when I got my puppy

  • @xXHelloKristinaXx true but also you cant reach out to pet them without getting bitten, and taking it all as a game. I still love my maltese it doesnt matter that much. lol.

  • It don't works,my dog is pissed off when I do that and tries to bite me more agressivly.

  • mine too

  • @DarkeKyra thats rigth my dog also gets very worst after i trie any of this this i dont know watt to do next if he dosent get any better we will be sending him to some trainning.

  • @DarkeKyra

be the dominator or he wil dominate you

  • that just does not work i have tried it and it doesen't work i will obviously have to try something else some people hit there dogs but i don't agree with that x

  • Puppies are suppose to bite because they are exercising their teeth??

my GSD is really stubborn, there's a time where she's going to bite you intentionally, which is kinda disturbing. and i observed too that my GSD lacks 1 upper teeth is that the reason she's biting?

  • ffs i got a german shepeard and a golden retriever breed..i got to train this sucka good its only 4 weeks old too

  • i'm trying to train a house dog not a police dog ur so mean to animals.

  • Thanks alot that helped me very much thier bits hurt really really bad

  • Does this method differ from breed to breed ? Why are there no warnings as to how hard to do this ? It seems awful

  • it looks like you're hurting him..

  • so you bait your puppy to bite you and they think they're doing something ok then you jab their jaw. Mate you seem to be sending confusing signals to the dog.

If it works then I'd like to see a progress video but right now this doesn't seem like a fair or humane correctional treatment.

  • you forget that humans and dogs communicate diferently. the "jab" is to give a condition to a certain behaviour which dogs naturally respond to. In psychology it is called "behaviourism".

i do agree that "jabbing", using a choke collar and aplying a "poke" seems inhumane for humans ( since we would not like it). you have to remember that dogs use a hirarcy of dominance, and actually bite to maintain that dominace.

under the right conditions, very few of those correctiosn have to be applied

  • It really works

  • I didnt bait the puppy to bite she bite me if she was eating playing all in a mean way. This worked for me. Also I growled at her like a dog standing over her and she quit. Plus my male husky taught her a lot about being a dog. Now she licks people to death.

  • @venuecam

Thank you very much. At least wait for it to do something wrong(not that I promote the whole 'bop' method).

  • See I have a 17 week old dog and I looked up all this stuff watched every video, when I do any of this stuff she gets excited and angry and wants to bark more! What should I do?

  • maintain your cool, show no anger and frustration. use a choke collar or firmly "poke" (relative to the size of the dog, don`t overdo it, just so you can see a responce to the correction) the dog seconds after the bark.

the most important thing is to get to know your dog and that you act as the leader in a calm-dominant way. shouting and frustration or just giving up is no substitute for a stable diciplin.

  • What is the firmer correction? I have had pitbulls mastiffs everything my new Cane Corso puppy will keep coming with a very mean grow and bite. She draws blood and even when she gets the hand bite for ten minutes she still is mean.

  • i recomend you wach cesar milans aproach to agressive dogs.

  • @prowled

I recommend you don't recommend Cesar Milan to anyone who wants to have a healthy relationship with their dog. Maybe some of the things he teaches are useful, but on an approach scope, I wouldn't want anyone's dog to go through that.

  • right........i only punish my dog when its bad. u act like i hit her fo da hec of it. u crazy. its called discipline. no be mad when u have kids and they walk all over ur non dominant self.

  • did u call me a christian worshiper? whats wrong with being christian. dogs r here for our pleasure. they either like it how we want them to live n have fun or not like it at all. give um a good spankin if they bad. same with kids, ill spank them too

  • dude this nice vid u got email were i can mail u or some thin or can i send u message in here cuz i bought a pitbull puppy and its my first dog so i might need help

  • its okay to jerk ur dog a lil bit with a hit to always show whos in charge if they get outta hand when there starting to play too rough sepacialy if its a bigger dog its not gonna harm em just to show them what there doing is wrong, and dont forget to reward them for doing a right command like when u tell them to stop or let go.

  • i have a 2 month old shih tzu and he ALWAYS TRY TO BITE ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Now of course his bites dont her because their baby teeth but im trying to get him out htat bad habit before the adult teeth comes in. Would your method work on shih tzu's?

  • think the same rule applies for all dogs... correction for unwanted behaviour in a non-agressive way.

F.eks: dog bites, you calmly correct the dog with a responce to the behaviour. if the dog repeats, you correct again. rinse and repeat til the dog submits to the change.

  • Well duh they don't like it! You're making them bite their tongue! This method does not work. My dog trainer said the only thing necessary is when your puppy bites too hard make a high pitched squeal that will resemble that of a puppy yelp, then completely ignore them for a bit as well as holding whatever was bitten close to you. Puppies learn their first stages of Bite Inhibition through other puppies, they yelp when the other bites too hard. P: Best method that worked for me.

  • I have a yorkie puppy... does this method work?

  • how old is your puppy?

  • thats not a good thing,

what if you punch the puppies jaw and his tounge gets bitten, huh!

  • I have to agree with some of the other comments. This video sucks and the technique does not work. I have the scars to prove it. LOL.

  • yeah I have a Cocker Spaniel mixed with Poodle (looks like a small lab retriever) and he likes to bite at my hands and everything else

  • we just bought one also the puppy seems to be very aggressive with biting wondering now if its a bad breed

  • i think it comes from the cocker side. i have a year (well almost her birthday's the 13) old cocker and she still hasnt given up the biting. im trying to teach her, i wonder if shell ever learn...

  • thank you so much the under the chin method really helped with my boston terrier puppy!

  • my dog is four years old and hes a ankle biter. hes going to be put to sleep this monday. how can i stop him from bitting when hes running after someone?? like a little kid?? i need alot of help. i need to get him to stop in two days. please help!!

  • Very Helpful. I have a a vizsla puppy and he is in that stange, so ya this helps alot.

  • THANKYOU!!

    I'm gonna try this!!

  • i have a brussel griffon that bites my furniture and wires does this work for that?

  • NO,

The best way is to hold the dog down on his or her side and use your hand as a mouth of a dog and your fingers as teeth. You hold the Dog down on the neck just as another dog would do to another Dog.

and you slowly move your hand away till the Dog gives up. Now he will see you as a pack leader. this is the same as the dog whisperer Cesar millan would do.

I am a trainer in boca raton Florida.

I volunteer at all the dog shelters to rehabilitate dogs so they can get a good home.
