The General Electric F136 engines is better than Pratt & Whitney F135. The F135 have cause a lot of problem to F-35 of delaying flight, service, and other. I beat the F136 is a lot cheaper than F135. The F136 have powerful engines, more reliable, and better upgrades next decade. I bet you could even add Thrust Vectoring Control & Supercruise in F136 engines.
The F135 suffers from soooooo many issues its not funny. This engine is going through a redesign at the tax payers expense and even the press has not reported on it yet. Yes, thats right P&W is building its second F135 because the current version as designed does not meet certain specs. The current F135 has cooling issues in the turbine area and it has major issues that are being addressed for the STOVL variant.
@formula80 What issues? This engine is flying today! It's in production! Where's your precious GE's engine? NOWHERE! Of course you're going to say "it's 75% there" "Just you wait" Yea, been waitng for a long while and we're still waiting. The F135 is essentially the same as it was when it came out of CDA. Stop the misinformation campaign, it's getting tiresome!
if we invest in the 136, we are making a huge rsk. the 135's have been working just fine, and there are no competitors for it... I say there should be more testing before it gets into the USAF or the navy. because 135s are fulfilling our needs for now so why change it with an "Unproven" (stevengo99) engine. and thats just my idea!

Steven, the F135 is upgraded old technology, the F136 is brand new, latest technology. It is better and yes people do want it! The F135 is not without problems - but I am sure you don't want to dwell on that!
Who wants it? Who in the AF, Navy or Marines wants it? They don't want both engines in the Navy because that only means twice the amount of SEO with already limited space on a carrier. The F135 is PROVEN technology, the F136 is UNPROVEN technology! The 136 engine barely has a hundred hours testing, how can you even say a design is better then a proven engine like the 135. Dwell on the problems the 135 has had, if you honestly think the 136 won't have the same or even worse problem you're a fool!

The horse and cart is proven technology as is the bow and arrow. Sometimes, however, we like to take a step forward and that requires leaving the past behind. Remember that it is not only the wonderful US of A who are buying this aircraft. Offering a choice is good for both camps as it applies pressure on both to make sure that their offering is "the best". Absence of competition may well result in an imperfect solution - ie the 135 !
Bottom line, proven technology that's FLYING!! The latest problems with the 136 are only proving that "new" UNPROVEN technology is not what the customer wants, they don't want radical UNPROVEN tech. Answer this! Do they offer choices on landing gear? How about avionics packages? Hmmm guess not!! The 135's been flying for a good while now. Was there compitition on the F18 which GE owns? NO! The F18 is owned by other countries just the same! We don't have the money in this economy to afford both!
@nicklebag123 Whether I work for them or not, the GE engine is years behind and will take too long to get it up to the point of the P&W engine. The GE engine could be a very good engine but we don't have the money to waste on it at this point. If GE wants in then let them pay for the up-front development costs and see how it shakes out if they need another engine for the F-35. Otherwise axe it.
@stevengo99 what the fuck are u blabbering out of ur nasty pussy u fuck. capitalism thrives on competition, and if a dumb ass fuck like urself is happy with the same old pw technology then so be it, but the rest of people want better technology and will support the claims of ge than listen to dumbfucks like urself who dont have the balls for change.
@johnnyboyfart What you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone on this site is now dumber for having read what you wrote. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.
@johnnyboyfart Wow...dude...wow, you sound real intelligent with that response, at least my response was somewhat funny, yours was just rambling and stupid. And as azokone says: The F135 is flying...where's your F136..hmmmm???
@stevengo99 haha fucking moron, f136 is in development and u know its gonna be better when its completed thats why p&w lobbies to have it terminated fucking greedy idiots
@johnnyboyfart Always going negative, figures. GE spent $9 Mil over the last year lobbying for the F136, stop your lying ASSHOLE! The F136 is languishing in a test cell while the F135 is flying, get that through your thick head, dipshit! The F135 was chosen by BOTH Boeing and Lockheed for the initial flyoff competition, GE fielded the JSF120 engine but it was deemed too radical and unreliable. Get your facts straight DICKHEAD! The F136 funding was cancelled in the house! SO SUCK IT, BITCH!!
Again, 2 years behind Pratt's (possibly more with the issues they've had lately), none of their engines are flying, it has no history of a true 5th generation fighter engine, oh and NOBODY WANTS IT! Kill the program, it's not worth it especially since we can't afford it.
The engine's 2 yrs behind Pratt's, there's no reason to let them even try to catch up, no one wants this engine and it has no previous history like the 135 which is based on the F119
this engine has been canceled due to economic crisis of usa.

If they can get 55,000 lbs of thrust out of it, they may stop the F35 being such a piece of junk.
