Over 7 years Wayne Rooney has scored 98 goals in 210apps for Man Utd. Shearer scored 112 goals in 138apps for Blackburn over a 4 year period. That's when they were similar ages... Prolific!
Thats really good stats. Yeah, given the competitiveness of the league now, no ones going to match Shearer's record for a long time to come.
Shearer's not the biggest forward but he's strong, has good positioning, great first touch and is very consinstent in his finishing, always getting his powerful shots on target most of the time.
@thetoon99 Well I think it's fair because Shearer single handedly won the title for B'Burn in that period! But it's always stupid comparing players, but when it comes down to being a prolific goalscorer, I don't think he'll be touched.
@benmols2 hows it fair to compare the goal scoring ablity of a striker to a player that plays deeper and does not have the job to score 20 a season.
11 players make a team shearer was my hero but he had 10 others on the pitch qwith him at blackburn no player wins it on there own without him they would not win it with him they could and did. but its the talents of him and 10 others that did it not just him.
@thetoon99 Goals win you games, Shearer got them their goals. The same way that most prolific strikers win teams their titles. Of course it's not solely down to striker, but they provide the goals and goals win games.

Gerrard, lampard etc would never say that. Ive been going to st james park for over 25 yrs and i know a lot of people follow the rugby now. Go in to any bar on the strip & most people will be talking about falcons. Pisse me off at first but judging by the ammount of falcon tops you see around town its here!!
