Donnie Wingo just won this year's Daytona 500 with Trevor Bayne behind the wheel ...this is without a doubt THE BEST ROAD RACE I've ever seen. Def beats today's races which are nothing but strategy games
Both of Bodine's saves in this race were SICK. Even crazier that he didn't lose the lead on his last-lap save. B. Labonte seems a bit hypocritical getting pissed about being wrecked immediately after driving Schroeder off the track.
last good decade of racing, between cart nascar scca trans am, we had it all luckly i was just old enough to remember it, its far to controlled far to family oriented and far to expensive to be any where as near competitive
Nice 6th place finish for Dale Earnhardt after overcoming a lot of adversity on the final laps to secure much needed points on the way to his 7th cup title.
Yeah, its real stupid now they've taken the challenge out of it, now its too much about equipment and stuff like that, that's how come Kyle Busch could win both road races, he had good cars and could match his style. Kyle is not a road racer to me anyways. Tony Stewart, Geoff Bodine(here), Jeff Gordon, Mark Martin, they all come to mind as good road racers.
Bodine was good on all road courses. I think he was one of only three along with Rusty and Rudd to win at Riverside, Sears Point, and Watkins Glen.
I think Kyle Busch does have significant road course talent. He and Jeff Gordon were the last cars on the lead lap after Busch got the lucky dog, and Busch passed MORE cars than Gordon did at Watkins Glen in '06, finishing 9th to Gordon's 14th. That convinced me Busch has road course talent.
Yeah, Busch did win that Mexico City Road Race in '06. Yeah like I said they took some of challenge out of it, now anyone can get up there and be pretty good.
With the way that Ricky Rudd always seemed to run here, it makes you wonder if he ever got a twinkle in his eye when this race was coming closer... Just a thought.
Maybe, he won the first race here and he stole one when Jerry Nadeau lost the rear end on his car in 2002, that was Nadeau and Petty's race they could have broke that winless streak in 2002 but Rudd was the man taking the flag and that is all that matters.
That would have been a great finish for the Tri-Star Motorsports #68 (it became the Hooters #19 in 1994) had Schroeder not gone off the course. A real shame for them.
