Hollywood =/= real life. How do you verify what answer they give? They can be more than happy to give you whatever answer they feel like and send you chasing wild geese. After all, in a ticking time bomb scenario they know for a fact they only have to hold out for so long. Then paradise.
Not to even begin with whether or not more people die from the attacks or from the backlash inspired from the torture itself. Hollywood often doesn't show consequences very well, if at all.
