If I remember right, his "Paraphrases" were derived from duets he, his wife, and his friends (imagine Rimsky-Korsakov, Glazounov, Balakirev, etc. in Borodin's crowded faculty apartment) played with his daughter. The daughter would play "Chopsticks" in polka rhythm while the adults improvised against it. Liten to the pizzicato Chopsticks transposed into the minor here!

The incredible chemist. It reminds me of the 20th century minimalism, like many of Philip Glass's compositions.
Seems like Borodin was quite ahead of his ages / era.

I have great respect for Alexander Borodin. His requiem deserves to be noticed.
