I'm fucking pissed. I used my in-laws old turkey fryer caked with turkey oil. Tried to clean it for an hour or two. I even used a power washer. Tried to save some money but blew away all the ingredients to a Chocolate Mint Stout. I'm going to buy a new turkey fryer and use it. Do not use used. NO matter how clean you think it may be. I fucked my beer, it smells like rotten flesh and I really want to drink it still...because it's Choco Mint Stout
@keithlaunstein I put a comment in the description to indicate not to use a used turkey fryer. Please also see my comments with tstrenuous10 below. I understand that it is extremely difficult to clean it to the point where the turkey oil will no longer add flavor to the brew. I have never tried making beer with a "used" turkey fryer but the guys at the beer store said it is a "no no". I'll try try to add another warning in the video telling folks not to use a "used" one
@keithlaunstein I will add a note to the video so it is obvious to other people watching. The turkey fryers work great for brewing, but if you use it to fry turkeys you should get a second pot to use just for brewing. My old turkey fryer had a parts list and I think they sold a second kettle if you wanted to order an extra/replacement. It might be worth looking into.

I have never tried making beer with a "used" turkey fryer but the guys at the beer store said it is a "no no". They said turkey oil was kinda like rootbeer flavor, impossible to get rid of. So upon the threat of bad tasting beer I only ever used the boil pot for beer.
Sure did! It was a steal to say the least. I encourage all other fellow homebrewers that need a cheap way to jump into all-grain brewing to check out their local wal-mart for this deal. In other news, I am a bit confused how you make your rib-cage chiller. Did you unwind the entire coil and the re-wind up each end individually. It just seems like everyone discourages unwinding the coil, but I see no other way to accomplish your awesome idea.
@mcaple1 I counted the coils till I got to the halfway point...then I unrolled it a little till I had 2 coils and a straight section, then I started slowly flipping the upside down coil inside out (kinda like fixing a messed up phone cord) then I had 2 coils correctly oriented from the ground up...then I coiled each side around a keg and then interlaced the coils and shuffled them together like a deck of cards. I hope the description helps...I'll make another vid next time I make 1
i seen turkey fryers at a liquidation store for about 100 bucks , for the whole setup . aposed to a 5 gallon stock pot at walmart for 100 bucks . this is definetly a great idea for all grain brewing , if i ever get into all grain brewing i would want to do more than 5 gallon batches tho and it would be hard to get your hands on any pots bigger than 5 gallons . i do have an all grain beer currently but i bought a pasturized wort . still waiting for it to fully carbinate
@TheBrewHowTo A turkey fryer setup works great for extract and mini-mash too...heats up water way faster than on the stove, and you can do an all wort batch, you will get better hop utilization this way
@weirdbeer I spent less than $100, but I saw them on sale last year for $60 right after thanksgiving...look around and you may find a deal in the next week or two

I've never heard that the oil will ruin the beer. Wouldn't cleaning the pot after cooking remove the oil?

@mcaple1 Congrats! The turkey fryer is a great way to do full volume boils. I hope you like it. $25 is a steal...did it come with the burner too?
