I tried watching House once.. but couldn't stand listening to him with an American accent. I don't know if it's him with just a bad accent or if it's just that his voice is completely unrecognisable that makes me want to change the channel. Bring back Black Adder!
This really is a great sketch, two very fine actors with great stage presence - marvellous! There is one point though, Rowan forgot to take off his watch :o)
For everyone who keeps saying that they are irritated that Rowen and Hugh are bagging on Shakespeare, they aren't really. If you have every been in any sort of play, or production, or ANYTHING . . . this process happens sooner or later. And someone is ALWAYS unhappy. Play, Skits, TV shows, Movies, etc. EVERYTHING.
This is more close to the truth of the theater then anything else really. And Shakespeare isn't the only one who would react so badly. The actors would be PISSED.
I think this is only funny in places. I don't think that knocking famous people and their work is always funny, at least not the way R.A. did it. It starts out promising and then he goes too far and there are not many good lines.
"Skakey" - isn't this soooooo hilarious???? Didn't Laurie also play the German Prince in "Blackadder"??? This was also ever so funny! Thanks for this sketch!! :-)
@hugboxx There are many variations on how one can spell "Shakespeare" ...Shaggspear, Shakespear, etc. Spelling wasn't as streamlined then as it is now.
@lostsightofvehicle Well Hugh Laurie, Rowan Atkinson, and Stephen Fry all went to college together. They're friends. I remember there was something about a reunion between them on TV some time ago I think...
@Brogel and if he were writing it "back then" I'm sure it would be fine, but he's not. The english language DOES have rules now, and I was just taking a moment out of my day to point out that he did not spell "Shakespeare" how the english language has come to spell it in the 21st century. When we are NOW.
Very clever and funny as well!

Change the title. Shakespeare is misspelled.
skybreaker09 4 months ago
@skybreaker09 - Shakespear/e signed his name both with and without the 'e', so either is correct. English spelling was far less rigid then.

@lostsightofvehicle also, you spelled Shakespeare wrong.
elainesmith606 1 year ago
@elainesmith606 Not too sure of that. 'Shakespeare' is a retrospective spelling. And it's not as if there were spelling rules back then.
Brogel 1 year ago
@Brogel and if he were writing it "back then" I'm sure it would be fine, but he's not.
