ccalmbach, apparantly you do not know who you are listening too. This is Vladimir Horowitz, the best pianist to ever have lived, with exception to Evgeny Kisjin. This is taken a tad too fast, but listen to the nuances in the playing.
@King21973 Oh yes I DO KNOW who I am listening to and I do not think it's too fast. I agree with you RE the nuances he MANAGES TO GET INTO THIS MOVEMENT AND THAT TAKES SUPER CONCENTRATION ON hOROWITZ'S PART. Sorry--didn't know the caps lock was on. I am working on this and, at present, I am simply practicing slowly.
I like his interpretation better than Rubenstein's or Barenboim's. I can't exactly put my finger on it (no pun intended). I've worked on and off on this piece for many years. I don't have a piano, but when ever I do, this is the piece that I work on first.
@kerrgal I agree. Comparing it to Baremboim's, I'd say Horowitz takes a better tempo; Baremboim's is too slow and his interpretation sounds lethargic. I think this is also due to Horowitz's keen attention to the contrast that Beethoven wants.
To bring such a beautiful piece of music down to this bawdy and inappropriate level is like putting a dozen long-stem roses into the toilet instead of a vase. It angers me very much. I doubt if the person who did this knows muchj about class--ical music but Beethoven was going deaf when he wrote this beautiful music and he pours his heart out in every movement of this work.
Beautiful!
