  • Well not to interrupt anything, however this is not a Norwegian song, but written by Danish hymn writer BS Ingemann in 1850...and regarded as a Danish christmas hymn. Nonetheless, Sissel Kyrjebø's version is just lovely!

  • @stenovitz No, it's not Danish, nor Norwegian, but Polish...

  • @stenovitz We use it a lot here in Norway. I've sung this ever since kindergarden, so it's no wonder why people regard this as Norwegian.

  • Tear dripping.nuf said.

  • When was this recorded and where. BEAUTIFUL!! It touches my soul everytime I hear it. PEACE!!

  • This is absolutely beautiful. What is the title in English? A hymn in our church is titled Beautiful Savior and is not neccesarly a Christmas Hymn. How can it be possible that so much caring. love and beautiy be given to one so Beautiful as Sissel? This Hymn is one I sang as a child many years ago and still do.

God has given Norway and the rest of us a Beautiful gift.

  • Although that listening to Sissel would be enough for anyone, maybe someone would like to know what the words mean.

I have made a simple translation from the original Danish text by B.S. Ingemann, 1850.

The melody is Schlesisk from the 18th century. (Poland).

    1.

    Lovely is the Earth,

    Glorious is God's heaven,

Delightful are the souls pilgrims way!

    Through all the beautiful

    Kingdoms on earth

We go to paradise with song!

  • @Northman1066 Thank you so much ! I can only understand a few words and this has helped a LOT !!

  • SÅNN SKAL DET FAEN VÆRE
