What the fuck?! Is this research really going on? It's utterly pointless, if Volvo does in fact come up with a anti-crash chip it would only be as good as the person behind the wheel. Not to mention if one is driving in China where in some parts traffic is very dense, collisions are bound to happen (no pun intended to Chinese drivers).

imagine that you can get from point A to point B without stopping at stoplights...what happens is that the car slows down or speeds up based on cars going the same routes and thus, the grid knows what each needs to do for them to cross interesections at certain times to avoid collisions...I think this is what they are aiming for...it's really mathematics and not about locusts...

On the main point, though, I think that people are taught to be dependant on the rules of the road, the highway code. One should just take this as a guide, and then use their instinct to work out how they should drive in certain areas, hence using and enhancing ones level of awareness. Driving defensively is a start and generally being much more instinctive behind the wheel will make you a smarter driver in the long run.

Lets do it like they do on the discovery channel! That research scientist needs to get laid! She is studying WAAAY too many locusts. She can see how they avoid accidents, but she couldnt accidentally bump into a good lay if she researched for years. As for Volvo, How did they come to study locusts instead of birds or any other animal that avoids accidents when in route to their instinctive life tasks?

Birds don't swarm in chaotic cluster f***s like the locusts to do. They move in more more regular patterns and with less creatures per square foot.

At least that was my understanding of why they're looking at these guys over other creatures.
