  • Well, you can get it resurfaced/polished but that's not cheap either

  • They use high-end gear. They're pro's. They're insured. It's your choice whether you want to protect your gear or not, but for the sake of of marginally better images (which I doubt you can discern) it's a little extreme not to. If you really do decide not to use UV filters anymore, then just be careful about cleaning the dust off your lens. You scratch a filter and you throw it out. You scratch a lens and do the same.

  • @setherial666 Yeah I know, with the higher end lenses though, you'll notice a lot that the glass itself is actually pushed back a bit and there for it's a little more protected by a longer brim if you know what I mean. You see it most commonly on the prime lenses like the 35, 50, and the 85 lenses.

I don't know how insurance works in any other country but here in Australia, to insure your gear, for example, my DSLR in this case, you have to add it to your home insurance, which is super expensive

  • Thanks for sharing your story, you were indeed lucky :)

  • @schumionbike No worries bro, I don't know if I made the photo big enough to but it's on my tumblr anyway and there's a link to that in the description if you wanna check out the full size image
