We went to LA a year ago for March Break. We got into LAX at 10:30 and didn't get out of the airport until mid night. We had to get onto the 405 to get to our hotel. At mid night it was bumper to bumper but we were doing about 90 KM/H(around 65 MPH). Not even highway speed in Canada(100KM/H but everyone does 120 on the 401 lol). Then we had to leave the hotel at 7:00 AM so we could get to Santa Monica before 2:00. We were stuck in traffic for 2 hours.
Holy sh*t...and I thought I had it bad in Atlanta. FML if I had to live there! And umm....where's the shoulder of the highway, in case of break downs/wrecks. I don't really see one in this picture. And how do emergency crews get by in that mess! That's insane!
Umm, I think LA needs to focus on some public transport and less sprawl. I bet a lot of people driving in the LA traffic ask themselves why they live there.
@Freshbott2 The Bus and Light Rail networks in Los Angeles are among the busiest in the Country. The subway system is underdeveloped yet servicable. Also, LA has had commuter rail now for 20 years. The fact remains, it is STILL easier to drive everywhere in LA. There are more cars on LA's freeways than there are PEOPLE in Chicago or Houston.
All of the freeways in Cali are bitch, plain and simple, and no other place has it worse, only we that live in the LA area can understand the frustrations of traveling on the 405, 101, 10, 5, and so on and so forth,..they are packed all day, they only got some relief for an hour or two at the most, and only sometimes, rare occasions where they are running smooth

@1skylinedreamz I've driven in both Toronto and LA traffic. The 401 is worse because it is 18 lanes wide, which means it has a tiny concrete barrier and absolutely nowhere to pull over.
The 401 is the busiest highway in North America. If you don't believe me, google it. Next time do your research before bragging about something you're incorrect about. Thanks.

The traffic is horrendous here, but I still truly love living in L.A. Leave early enough, take the carpool lane when you can, and traffic can be tolerable.
It wouldn't be so bad if a few people would take the bus or subway. In other N-American cities the use of mass transit is around 40-60%. Are there even bus in LA? There is but its just not developed enough. With bus lanes a bus trip can be shorter than using a car, and cost less. Just the amount of gas you put in your cars to go to work in a week cost more than a bus pass for a month.

the 405 freeway isn't even the worst freeway in the LA area. The 91 freeway which goes from Orange County to Riverside is considered worse by some people. There is an ungodly amount of traffic on that freeway. The only thing which makes the 405 worse is that its much longer so the total amount of cars on it at a given time is much more. Chicago and NY can't compare. The amount of cars that travel through LA is absurd. a 30 minute drive can easily turn into a 3 hour drive depending on when it is

Although it is an interesting volley of data the pure fact is la fwys are jammed full of traffic 22 hours a day. Most every other american city only experiences that type of volume at rush hours (AM & PM). I've been to chicago dozens of times and at 9pm u can go anywhere at speed limit. La can only be driven at speed limit from 330am until 450am that is a fact based on 24 Yeats of driving at all hours due to strange calltimes and late night gigs.

Correction: L.A. USED ot have a great mass transit system, but they ripped it out 60 years ago. It was called the Red Line. Today, what mass transit there is in L.A. is disconnected, disjunct, difficult ot figure out, and inconvenient.

@Freshbott2 The Bus and Light Rail networks in Los Angeles are among the busiest in the Country. The subway system is underdeveloped yet servicable. Also, LA has had commuter rail now for 20 years. The fact remains, it is STILL easier to drive everywhere in LA. There are more cars on LA's freeways than there are PEOPLE in Chicago or Houston.

@1skylinedreamz I've driven in both Toronto and LA traffic. The 401 is worse because it is 18 lanes wide, which means it has a tiny concrete barrier and absolutely nowhere to pull over.
The 401 is the busiest highway in North America. If you don't believe me, google it. Next time do your research before bragging about something you're incorrect about. Thanks.

It wouldn't be so bad if a few people would take the bus or subway. In other N-American cities the use of mass transit is around 40-60%. Are there even bus in LA? There is but its just not developed enough. With bus lanes a bus trip can be shorter than using a car, and cost less. Just the amount of gas you put in your cars to go to work in a week cost more than a bus pass for a month.

the 405 freeway isn't even the worst freeway in the LA area. The 91 freeway which goes from Orange County to Riverside is considered worse by some people. There is an ungodly amount of traffic on that freeway. The only thing which makes the 405 worse is that its much longer so the total amount of cars on it at a given time is much more. Chicago and NY can't compare. The amount of cars that travel through LA is absurd. a 30 minute drive can easily turn into a 3 hour drive depending on when it is

New York has the most amount of pedestrian traffic, Chicago has the most congested/slow traffic... But there's no doubt about it, L.A. has the MOST traffic.

Although it is an interesting volley of data the pure fact is la fwys are jammed full of traffic 22 hours a day. Most every other american city only experiences that type of volume at rush hours (AM & PM). I've been to chicago dozens of times and at 9pm u can go anywhere at speed limit. La can only be driven at speed limit from 330am until 450am that is a fact based on 24 Yeats of driving at all hours due to strange calltimes and late night gigs.

What you don't realize is 70% of LA County is uninhabited desert and mountains. The part of it that is habitable is about the same size as cook county.

A metro area is the entire glob of urban area in that particular city in which case the L.A. metro includes all of the urban area in Orange County(Anaheim, Santa Ana, Newport Beach) AND all of the urban area in San Bernidino, Riverside, Ontario areas. which is a grand totoal of 17 million people.
San Diego(where I live) only has a total of 3 million in it's entire metro area and is NOT part of the Los Angeles metropolitain area.

Well I live in California, and I think it gets dark. Actually now since the time went forward, it quickly gets dark after 5pm.

Not true,it is aid that Los Angeles has the worst traffic in the country,you can read it in the internet! Chicago traffic is bad,but when you come here,traffic will be hell lol.Los Angeles is a huge city that will be growing more and more,and traffic will increase,oh and Los Angeles traffic will still be greater then 2015.

lolz yes i cant read the innernet! but forget what they say! search or google LA live traffic n Chicago live traffic at rush hour n tell me what city is mostly in red n yellow=slow traffic! LA has more expressways Chicago doesnt have as many so traffic gets bad! traffic patterns are gonna be differnet in both city cuz both citys are diffent! listen =D

LA=470 sq mi 3.8 million ppl
plus chicago feels alot bigger then 3 mil they didnt count evryone!

LA has small family homes with space between the middle n big mansions! yall have drive ways! its a lie ppl LA looks like a suburb compared to NYC n even compared to Chicago! LA is bigger then NYC like twice a big yet NYC is 3 times bigger! LA is very suburban compared to NYC it looks like a barn! lolz look at their homes lolz that says it all!

naw it aint that BAD! its bad but not THAT bad! cuz ma friend went to LA n i asked her if the traffic was bad, she said not really, im like what? shes like they exaggerate! si i asked her if its worst then chicago she said its about the same! im like any gangs, she said she didnt see any that ppl are really nice! still imma go cuz ive been to NYC im from Chicago now i need to go to LA thats the big three! remember LA is twice the size of Chicago but only has 800,000 ppl more!

lolz that CSA= combined statical area not metro! lolz means a bunch or differnet metros! Correction: L.A. USED ot have a great mass transit system, but they ripped it out 60 years ago. It was called the Red Line. Today, what mass transit there is in L.A. is disconnected, disjunct, difficult ot figure out, and inconvenient.
What L.A. needs is a mass transit dictator; someone who will brook no guff and tie all of its disparate elements together with a unifying vision. They're just too many fractured MT elements which make no sense,

Interesting video! Unfortunately, LA has a problem with getting people to use mass transit, which is very, very popular in New York City. It would definitely help reduce traffic on LA highways.
