  • sumi ink is the best it is the black I use for all my art except of cores my oil paintings I find it works for some canvas but is best on paper you can also use the ink for nibs and quil pens

  • At first, I was like, "What is he doing???"

  • das Video hat kein sin und verstand

  • Muito bom1!!!

  • very beutiful art. i rate it a 4/5, only because its to quiet without music. playing a nice soothing melodic song or something would be perfect.

  • your mature

  • @ConfusedHobbes i think the quietness is soothing enough, music would be annoying.

  • amazing, nice job!! beautiful!!

  • really, it was so beautiful i wanted to cry... it's like wow so raw and wonderfull, it reminded me of the cherry tree blossims from are tree in theback yard, the trees old but, that was beautiful art, can't go wrong with ink. One color can make alot of things..... but anyway, nice art work.

  • he uses fluffy ink

  • Wait...you're joking right? fluffy ink?

  • isn't it just waterd down ??

  • well, this video does not state, 'how to draw, or how to draw in pencil', so check titles more carefully.

this video shows a man at work depicting cherry blossoms using the brush stroke with just ink and water.

  • simple question what brush you use in here can i get from Yuzawaya ???

  • hi, this is just a brush for sumi-e drawing. cost 5,000 yen.

you can get any painting shop. if you can't find, can get one on the web. just enter "suibokuga fude" in Japanese. I think around 5,000yen one is reasonable.

    kazu

is it the same if I use chinese ink and acrylic paper??

and umm what kind of paintbrush do you use?

    pls reply thnx!!

btw your artworks are great !! =^-^=

  • hello, filip,

that's right, sumi and rice paper.

I guess acrlic paper doesn't work well, because the water won't penetrate.

    kazu

  • Very beautiful. I work in black ink as well, though not in the same way. I have a couple of videos of my work posted. Take a look!

  • I must tell you, it is really nice to know that when my beloved Sumi-e teacher Yoshi Kinami goes back to Japan (snif, snif)I will have at least your wonderfull lessons to based myself on!

    Thank you very much

Yuri (that is the translation of the meanning of my name to Japanese)

    Brazil

  • hello, Suely is your name for yuri in Japanese??

  • Hello!

Yes, not a direct translation but the translatios of it´s meanning.

It all began with Yoshi Sensei teaching us how to carve seals (difficult as hell!). I wanted an Ideogram with a meanning. So, I looked for the origin of my name and then it´s meaning. I found two, more like, Suely comes from Suzanah (Hebreu) and means Lilly, that Yoshi Sensei translated as Yuri. I assume it is right as I have no clue of Japanese! !)

  • Beautiful painting, as is all your work. I am reading a book on brush painting and wondered about composition. The book says divide the paper into 9 equal parts then use 3 or 4 parts for your painting to assure enough unused space. Is this correct?

  • Thanks, ticklememonet,

that method would be useful to understand the sumi-e composition. I haven't had used that way, but I usually do the same thing in mind during darwing. I tend to draw things symmetry, but my master used to tell me everything on paper must be asymmetry, even unused space.

  • oh my god that was so pretty could you please tell me how to do that? it's so beautiful OMG

  • hello, inuyasha, Thank you very much.

prepare sumi ink, brush and paper. and just follow this video ! if you got lost, please ask me anything.

  • k;P

  • Hi, thanks for your question, any rice paper will get wrinkly in some level. So, to hang on the wall, it's necessary to stick another paper backside. Fade out problem, the point is making brush is in the right way. First, you need very deluted sumi into brush and second, black ink in it. Now you have a gradation in one brush. Then, when you draw, lay a brush more than you think almost like horizontally of paper. If you have more question, please don't hesitate.

  • When I do sumi inking... the paper that I use gets all wrinkly... is it suppose to be that way? It is even more wrinkly on rice paper... And I can't seem to dilute my ink to make them slowly fade away like your's... no matter how little ink I have. It's either dark or light, i can't make it fade... Does the kind of ink matter? (I use india ink in a bottle.)
