so hey im gonna be goin up north and fishing the skagit this coming summer when the season opens up, and im really trying to focus on catching some coho. what are some good setups for bank fishing for coho. i also mainly use plunking setups
Dude that was a silver sea carp!!!! LOL Nice looking Ho and the way you guys handled it was awesome. I wish I saw more fishermen out there that knew how to handle these fish!!
@cordovasanders Thanks. We definitely like to place a strong emphasis on proper fish handling when catching and releasing. Here in BC a pretty large percentage of new anglers are unaware of proper handling so it's up to the more experienced to reduce the learning curve. :) Cheers.
Lol the first part I was like "dude dont stand there" I have lost fish before (pinched barbs) and the hook comes flying. Nice fish. Now I just need a camera person.
I think you all are wrong. No doubt in my mind that's a small mouth bass. LOL. Nice fish. We have lots of Coho in Sault, Ontario but never seen any that big. Nice Fish.
@CJPapan Wild coho salmon in Southern British Columbia have to be released by regulations. Coho at that size should be released anyway IMO, they're valuable spawners. We catch enough smaller coho salmon throughout the year for eating.
@flaminggrecon42 chinook turn black/bronze when they sawn and sometimes red depending on location and ive also caught a coho this size it was around 17-20 lbs
thats a coho their jaws form a little different then male chinook and chinook have larger blotchy spots on their backs and whole tails- coho have less spots and spots on the top portion of the tail-coho also have a white lower gum line so please as rod says quit guessing and learn the facts. -brandon
yes the differences are there. and yes this is a very big wild silver salmon. pause at 1:55 and study. no large black spots, silvers are spotless. the white gum, kings have black gum lines. and finally the very hooked snout is defined to the character of a male silver. very much a silver salmon, AKA coho.
sorry i have to correct you that is a chinook/king salmon look at some pictures of coho they are red when the are spawning chinook/king are silver with a black back while spawning but thats a nice fish the other day we caught a 32 inch chinook and it weighed 20 pounds.
Yeah, I think it was an Atlantic salmon now that I look at pictures. I was surprised that a coho would be that big (I grew up on Lake Michigan and never saw any that big).
Nope, catch and release done properly such as in this case ensures that the fish swims away uninjured and minimizes mortality. You can do so by using a catch and release net and keep the fish in the water at all time except when taking a photograph for a brief moment.
VERY NICE !!!!!!!

If I was DFO I would patrol Youtube and catch people with poor fish identification skills. Might nab some that bonk the wrong one.
Nice Ho, btw.

hoboryan3 2 years ago
i caught one about that size it was about 40 lbs but i think it was coho hybrid
Guidog8 2 years ago
umm youre kidding right? there is absolutley no such thing as a hybrid coho. the different species of salmon cannot interbreed.

nice fish! I want to catch a salmon in the Yukon next summer. What are you using?
asianboy9821 2 years ago
Spoons, in the 1/4 and 1/2oz range.
fishingwithrod 2 years ago
Its hard to release fish of that size cuz u wanna keep em but makes sense cuz those fish gotta make babies for us to catch in the future!

I saw a 25-30 pound coho caught yesterday in downtown Stockholm. I've not seen anything like that in a major city before.
ord1711 2 years ago
What you saw was a searun brown trout or an Atlantic salmon, not a coho salmon.
fishingwithrod 2 years ago
Yeah, I think it was an Atlantic salmon now that I look at pictures. I was surprised that a coho would be that big (I grew up on Lake Michigan and never saw any that big).

this one was big if i were you i d eat it
mourkos 2 years ago
Had to be released as required.
Releasing large fish is a good practice for preserving the quality of the fish stock.
fishingwithrod 2 years ago
But why did you let it go??? I mean I totally agree except for the fact that they go back to the water injured
julixjt 2 years ago
This is a catch and release fishery.
fishingwithrod 2 years ago
Well I can assure that but dont they go to the water injured?
julixjt 2 years ago
Nope, catch and release done properly such as in this case ensures that the fish swims away uninjured and minimizes mortality. You can do so by using a catch and release net and keep the fish in the water at all time except when taking a photograph for a brief moment.
