  • She said she wanted to see it

  • And b4 the op I begged him to be gentle. degenerate asshole.

  • F@ckng slow down bitch. U keep knocking around the forceps and bout everything else too. Why so fast? My dr was probably the same dif surgery but still u assholes need to take a damn breath.

  • WHY is she awake and WHY does she have nail polish on? my grandpa just had this done today, and he was knocked out. they also said that women should not have nail polish on during something like this.

  • THE DOCTOR'S ATENDANT IS NOT WERING CLOVES !

  • Am I the only person who thinks cutting someone open should be done in a sterile surgical environment? How is a doctor's office sterile? Hope this lady survived! Wow!

  • Wait...my first shock was that the patient was awake & sitting up! Aaahhhh!!!! Then, the nurse doesn't even have gloves on when opening up things for the doctor! Aaahhhh!!!! Will watch for further comments...but all I can say is that is messed up!

  • I can't watch anymore...I get the gist of it. I might have to have this surgery in the next few months, wanted to see what it entails. I will make sure to be put under!!

  • Would it be better to have it done under general or local anesrhesia

  • video

  • this vedio made my toes curl

  • my bff had surgery on her foot because she stepped on somethin baddd

  • I was out for my right foot surgery, and I'm due for my left foot

I was 17 when I had my 1st surgery and am now having my 2nd. If I didn't have my surgery, I'd be permanently disabled by 25... apparently my feet were intensely bad

  • I had mine done some time agoand although feet are still a bit knobbly,I thoroughly recommend it

  • To answer the question about the patient being awake or asleep..a general anaesthetic that puts the patient 'to sleep', carries much more risk to the body, it also needs a fully qualified anaesthetist to be in attendance to monitor the patients heart, blood pressure etc., much safer is a local anaesthetic, this will also allow the patient to leave and go home much quicker. What actually stuns me is the surgeon asking the filmer not to go near - but the patient has NAIL POLISH ON! A CONTAMINENT!

  • @Janclearwater True and what stuns me is that the podiatrist didn't put a screen between the patient and her feet (so she doesn't see it during surgery)

  • The doctor should NOT have you awake for this! You needed to be asleep !!

C'mon he is asking you "Are you O.K??" Your friends don't want to see this."

  • I am 28 from Toronto and suffering from genetically acquired bunions. They are probably about 1/8" out of my big toe and they hurt even when I have flats on but esp. when I have heels on. I have always considered having surgery but have been putting it off due to some testimonies I got from a few patients. Does anybody know a good Podiatrist in Toronto who is good at this and has had good feedback from clients?

  • @tbonja It's not always the bunion. I have been told by my podiatrist that it is misdiagnosed. In my case it's the sesamoid bone that is out of alignment. Good luck to you!

  • i had this surgery it is the best thing i have ever done. i would suggest u do it one foot at a time though.

  • I'm getting my left foot done in two weeks and to be honest...I'm more excited than scared. I'm going to be knocked out and I can walk right out of surgery when they're done. I've had them since I was 6 so I'm glad to have them done. This video helped a lot! Thank you :)

  • i had bunion surgery on my left foot last september and last week i had bunion surgery on my right foot.so far everything went perfectly perfect and i never regret doing it.it was sooo painful before and i started to find hard to walk.im soooo happy and i cant wait for the summer to wait every type of shoes and to look beautiful and to feeel comfotable on my feet.i live in perth australia and if u r interested to know more detalis plz dont hesitate to ask.all the best :-)

  • i had bunion surgery done on my left foot 2 or weeks ago and im happy with my results my toe looks so straight and after the surgery i was never in pain not one bit of pain.

  • were you asleep during this surgery?? it looked like you were awake

  • They don't push meds back into the bottle, air only is pushed into the bottle so the pressure allows the med to release into the syringe. That is a pressurized bottle, if you don't push air into it, it can suck the medication back out of the syringe. Im having bunion surgery on 6/8/11 but I will be knocked the $&@& out! I'm a nursing student and was a surgical tech, no way I'm staying awake!!!

  • Hi, I'm 13 and I was wondering because I have a bunion and they said I might need to get it removed later on.. I was wondering if you got a choice if you wanted to be put a sleep? Cause I am realllly scared.

  • WTF i have one bunion toe and after seeing that skin get opened up fuck this

  • i am tinkin about gettin it i had bunions since i was 9 now i am 21 ... can u get it done in ur sleep

  • I just had this surgery done on 5/9/11~TERRIBLE PAIN! TERRIBLE PAIN! 3 days & still on morphine! Don't get it if you don't have too! It's worser than contractions if your a gal.

  • All the instruments are autoclaved and just as sterile as the hospitals. This procedure was done just as it would be in the hospital, the only exception, she is awake.

  • she is sooooooooooooooooo ugly

  • wen ever i see videos of surgery i get chills

  • Why does he push the different drugs back into eachother like that?, doesn't it mix them up and ruin them?

  • Im getting a bunion after years of running. How long did this procedure actually take?

  • wow she did not do her homework had mine done and they numbed my foot from the bottom part of my leg down to my foot a licensed anesthesia doctor was there she is a damn fool

  • Thanks for posting this! I have to get surgery and it helped me get prepared mentally for it!

  • That is why I chose to have mine done by an orthopedic surgeon as opposed to a podiatrist.

  • @sublime4029 An orthopedic surgeon may have 10-15 bunion cases a year. Podiatrist 40 and up!

  • does a bunion surgery always require that a screw be inserted? it seems like that is the case for every bunion surgery?

  • @zcarenow i had bunion surgery dec 16 and i had a L shaped pin inserted

  • how much does this type of surgery usually cost with and without insurance? thanks.

  • It is amazing how tough a bone is, but when it come to your foot, it isn't so tough. Imagine a hard bone changing shape just due to tight shoes. In the past, i thought nothing can change the shape of a bone unless you were still a child or in puberty. It just shows you how fragile a bone is , yet it is considered strong, but in reality, not that tough.

  • @zcarenow I thought you might find it interesting to know that tight shoes do not cause bunions. In fact tight shoes merely aggravate bunions already present. Many doctors still tell their patients it's their shoes. I have written a post all about how bunions develop (I have a bunion and am a chiropractor hence my interest over many years). Two things you might like to research: Wolff's Law explains how bones change and 'Paula Moore Bunion Help' will get you to my post about bunions.

  • i tip my metaphorical hat to you for watching someone cut your foot open...

  • ewe ? HOW COME SHE WAS NOT CRYING!!! DID SHE FEEL IT :(

  • I am an 18 year old girl in high school. and I just went to my foot doctor today, and I was told I have bunions on both feet... But only my right one has been hurting... I may have to get this surgery before the end of this year so I'm not in pain so much at work, but I had a temporary pain reliever thing done today where I got a shot of cortizone in the knuckle of my foot... if your doctor has anything to alleviate the pain of this before the shot, TAKE IT, most painful shot of my life!!!

  • @crisy0728 i have bunions on both feet and i get the shot once a mounth. ask them 2 use the freeze stuff and the pain is not as bad. i have had 5 or 6 and they work wonders. i am having the final surgery in may.

    hope this helps

  • Gross .. I don't do needles...I don't think I could be a doctor ... cutting into a living person would ... disturb me...a lot any whooo ... I might have to get this done..... and I'm scared ... shitless...

  • i just had this surgery on thursday!!! :( and im only 15.. its very painful

  • @twilightfan861 Im only 13 and getting this done..Im super scared!

  • @saplock123 dont be scared... its been 5 weeks since ive gotten it... im still on crutches.. and it really sucks but it will be worth it next week.. i might be able to start walking on it with my boot on so thats a plus

  • @twilightfan861 ha ya Actually I was suppost to get the surgery done in a two weeks but im a very athletic girl and I show cows and shit so I dont have anytime....But Ya im crutches now because I fractured my foot in basketball then they have to put a joint in my toe then do the bunion....Quit a procedure :(

  • Wasn't that painful :(

  • hi there thank you for posting this, you are very brave to see everything,i had bunions surgery last week but meant to ask how long takes to start walking without crutchers?also can i walk with hills?thanku

  • @lifeisgood6187 well I got my surgery back in july and its still not completely healed. It depends on the person. I can walk fine and everything, its just very sensitive. I still wear the boot to work or when I know I will be walking around a lot.

  • I got my surgery back in July and its still not healed all the way. It depends on the person. Its healed to the point where I dont need anything to walk, but I do like to wear the boot at work or when Ill be walking for a long time.

  • i am getting this on the 27 were you nervous?

  • I had my right bunion removed in August of 2008 and had a great experience! I had it done in the hospital, cast and crutches with a 2 month no weight bearing and elevation period after that was in a walking cast for another 6 weeks. It was well worth it and I'm looking forward to having my left foot done in the future.

  • Thanks a million for sharing ...... My question is this ..... How long until you stop thinking about it....? . How much did it cost ?

  • after the surgery was there a period of time you could not walk or any side effects whether they were temporary or longlasting

  • Thank you for this very informative video. I could not bear to watch all of it however and I admire your cheerfulness during the operation. It told me more than I needed to know. I took your idea and recorded my own feelings when I had my op done recently. I was under sedation and a local anesthetic during my op. and I remember nothing of the operation. I cannot imagine how you stayed so awake during the procedure. In June 2010, I had a Scarf Akin osteotomy with Hammer Toe correction as well.

  • How do most people get bunions ?

  • That's it! I'm studying X-ray tech I cannot do this kind of stuff as a doctor.

  • @snuckles108 Ugghh radiology is a ROADs specialty.

  • Im getting my left foot done on july 12 and ill be on crutches for 2 months . Thats how long it mainly takes. Its really gonna suck but itll be worth it cus bunions hurt like crazy.

  • so you dont feeel a thing? and thery dont put you out? jus curious cause i neede to get this done soon

  • Did you feel anything while he was preforming the surgery? And did it hurt like hell afterwords? D:

  • i am getting this done in about a week or two i am 15 and nervous but happy to be getting rid off it

  • @max10194 - How was the surgery? I'm 19 and was thinking 'it's too early for me to develop bunions!' So I guess I'm not the only one. What state are you getting the surgery done? How are you feeling and how big were the bunions? Sorry, just curious because I'll probably be getting the surgery this year =/

  • @SourCandy24x i actually am getting it done at the end of this month. im getting it done in my home state of ohio. my bunions are moderate. they arent too big but big enough to hurt a lot. im a little nervous but i got god watching me so i know ill be ok. good luck:)

  • @max10194 lucky ! I Am Gonna Get Mine Done My Are So Huge!!! And They Always Hurt Like Crazy I Start To Cry.

  • How much does this cost?

  • This is what you get for wearing shoes that don't fit you!

  • I had this done a week ago in a hospital with about 8 surgeons/nurses/anesthetists in the room. I was not allowed to wear nail polish or jewellery, had to wear a hospital gown and take a shower before. Everyone had gloves on.

All it takes is one slip for the germs on the nurses hands to make their way onto the instruments, doctors glove, etc. That is a big risk to take. The biggest problem with this type of surgery is infection!

  • US health system = shit!

  • shes sadistic lol thats some ruthless shit rite thurr

  • y da hell dey didnt put her 2 sleep

  • @GIANTVILLE75 They probably just numbed the area where they were working. They do that sometimes.

  • I had this type of surgery back in June of last year. Mine was caused my hypermobility in my feet. I was not sent for physical therapy by the surgeon, though. Now, 7 months after the procedure, I got a second opinion and have to work much harder to regain mobility.

  • Big question, why you guy didnt get the minimal invasive surgery? why? why? is this better in the end? or you just didnt consider the option or know about this surgery??? because i been reading that the minimal invasive surgery you are able to walk the same day after the surgery!!! so please tell me why you dindnt prefer this kind of surgery.

  • i just had surgery on my right foot bunion yesterday, the vicodin they gave me is great. i was put all the way under with anesthesia because i was so nervous about it. haha.

  • technogirl donttt worrryyy

i am 15 i got my first foot done when i was 12 had the screw taken out when i was 13 had the next bunionectomy when i was 14 and just had my other screw taken out 2 days ago.

i had the worst case ever seen in a minor and if they prescribe you vicodin....you be fineeee! haha jkkk.... and you get cool scars to show off. and lots of attention

  • do you have to wear a cast after the surgery ?? and for how long?

  • yea i wore my cast for a week

  • yes just a small wrap. with a boot. For my surgeries they had to break the bone and move it so I think i was on crutches for longer than most... i was on crutches for 3 mo. and then another month with just the boot. When i had the screws removed I was in a small shoelike boot for a week and no crutches. p.s. also i had an ice machine that i could hook up to my boot that circulated cold water around my foot...i guess for swelling

  • i have 2 get surgry on my bonions and im only 14 and im scared

  • i know how you feel gettin mines in june i will be 14 by then

  • Ur lucky to be actually getting this surgery , i probably have it worse than you , im 14 too , and my bunions are SO bad . Its disgusting . I hate myself because of my feet , i cant even wear flip flops or buying shoes is so hard i have to buy over-sized shoes ,,like , i wear a size 8 because of my stupid deformity , but my actual feet are like , size 5and a half or size 6 . ugghhh

  • Gotta say this looks like it was done in a waiting room set up. People.. pay GOOD money to have anyone cut you open.

LOL.. You can't move forward sir.. (while my assistant doesn't have on gloves!!!!)

    LOSERS

  • She's not touching the patient so why should she have gloves? The needle was clean and he was just drawing up the medication he hadn't injected her yet...

  • Why is the assistant not wearing gloves? That is very dangerous.

  • I am the person who posted this video. I had my left bunionectomy In November 2006 in the hospital. It was a great experience with great results. I chose to have my right bunionectomy performed in the podiatrist's office in February 2007. I enjoyed being able to watch the procedure, I was able to ask questions and learn, my husband was with me, my recovery time was quicker due to less anesthesia. This is an educational video to let people know they may have options. It is ok to ask questions.

  • @larkandbetty how long did it take to heal?

  • I wish my feet looked as good as yours before your surgery. Mine are nasty.

  • @larkandbetty You know I keep looking at your before as they are prepping your feet and I can't figure out why you are having the surgery. Your feet look fine. If you want to see a bunion I'll send you a photo.

  • @larkandbetty how long did it take to recover from that surgery?

  • Hi I'm a thirteen year old girl who loves to run and play every sport there is! I have bunions on both feet and I'm getting the surgery done..Will it be the best to do the procedure after sports? Im so scared for this procedure and i just need someone to ask questions to. If u can please reply back I would be so so thankful!

    Thanks...Sam!

  • @larkandbetty why she need surgery for too something wrong with her foot

  • @larkandbetty

    Thankyou so much!

I have been having so much anxiety about getting it done~

    please inbox me! thankyou

  • @larkandbetty

Thanks for posting this surgery. Do you have an email where I can reach you, i need to ask you more before I consider going through. Thanks

  • @larkandbetty

Thanks for posting this surgery. Do you have an email where I can reach you, i need to ask you more before I consider going through. Who's the physician ?Thanks

  • shouldn't this be in a operation room or something..?

  • mine was like that... youre not suppose to have toe nail

  • I have just had my bunion op in the uk in an nhs hospital and thankfully it was nothing at all like this, infact this is very scary. I watched it before my op and really wish I hadn't if anyone else is thinking of doing the same please do not think it should be done this way/

  • omfg im scared im only 13 nd i gotta do mines soon

  • WOW! we watched the discovery channel surgery video & this is horrible & unprofessional compared to those nice experienced doctors who knew wat they were doing. NO BLOOD! CLEAN INSTRUMENTS! and didn't use the same gauze more than once...didnt use one gauze at all! very disturbing ur lucky to still have ur feet

  • @SandyMaee Hey could'nt agree more, am due for my surgery soon AND done professionally at a hospital also want be knocked out.

  • mmm... I was just noticing... why does she have her toes painted???? Isn't that wrong??? Really weird stuff..... I should go with a orthopedist, not a podiatrist....

  • if onlymy bunions woulda been that small

  • This video reminds me of a bad procedure being done in Mexico. Very scary, it don't even look professional. Where is this place? Very scary.

  • I went to my Doctors and they reffered me to a podiatrist. I had it done there 3 week ago on the NHS and im recovering really well. I will have my other 1 done in 6 months time or maybe less.

  • I am a surgical technologist in the OR and I am shocked at a couple of things in this video. First, doing a bunion correction in an office setting (NOT in an office OR) is dangerous for the patient. What if they had an adverse reaction to the local anesthetic??? Secondly, I am horrified that the surgeon did not have the nail polish removed prior to the surgery. This is an AORN standard of care !! Don't know who this surgeon is but very happy he isn't MINE.

  • I agree...I thought the same thing. Nail polish? I've had 2 bunion surgeries but I had mine at the hospital & it was a lot more serious than that.

  • i did not feel nuttin when i got mine done intil tha next day i waz in painnn

  • luckily for me i was KNOCKKKKED OUT and given numbing stuff in my foot afterwards so i didnt feel anything during it or until the next day!, hospitals and anesthesiologists are wonderful!

  • lol me two im still recoveng and im 15

  • its called you have GOOD INSURANCE i work for the united parcel service (ups) its a federal company i just had mine done on july 21st and the most i had to pay was a 10 dollar copay to see the doctor before it was done. NOW THATS GOOD INSURANCE :)

  • HOW DO YOU GET IT FOR FREE

  • were you put to sleep bec im only 13 and i have abad one and idk if i wanna do it now?

  • I'm getting mine free also

  • Im getting it done for free

  • Comment removed

  • this is against any rule of biosecurity!

1)painted nails are forbidden!!! they are contaminated!

    2) keep of those pants muthaf...! this is a sure infection!

  • yes why the hell is she wearing nail polish during surgery DUH

  • I thought the same thing as soon as I saw it.

  • but that was me. everyone heals differently

  • i had both my feet done and yes you can wear high heels. my feet start hurting after 2 hrs of wearing them tho. its prolly best not to wear them for at leastt 6 months after surgery. i went to florida 4 weeks after and walked bare foot in sand. and that was a no no. i didnt listen to my doctor. and now my one foot is back to where it was. .. there goes 10,000 bucks lol

  • I'm 55yo and had this surgery on 11/20/08 under a local anesthetic. Also had pinched nerve removed in same foot. Surgery was less than 1 hr start to finish. Left there-went shopping for an hour went home, propped and iced my foot rest of day and night. Went to Mall for an hour next day, kept it up and iced when I was home. Absolutely no pain during recovery-lots of swelling, no pain, no crutches. Back at work in 5 days. Didn't need vicodin. I drink Monavie juice which I think helped.

  • how much was the surgery ($)

  • I looked up the ins info and w/the disc, it was around $2,200 - including the removal of the nerve. I pd about $550 out of pocket. If you're thinking about having it and are in the Indpls/G'wood area, I highly recommend Dr Wendy Winckelbach-she'e the best!

  • thx for the info !!! so u spent 550$ right?

    and the average is 2,200$?

  • Yep, about $550. The total was about $3,300 but my ins co got discounts from the provider for being a preferred provider which brought it to about $2,200 and my portion was about $550. And, it was for removing a nerve as well as fixing the bunion.

  • aww i feel bad for you, in britain we get all our medical surgeries for free.

  • im afraid of cuts and needles, and i might be gettign that done, im 12 by the way tooo young to even have one of those, its possible but it usually happens to older people, and they dont knock you out, oh, then i dont think i can do it.

  • My mom has to get this done. But,she keeps canceling when she's suppose to get it done. She might be scared.Cause she hates needles. Her and needles don't mix.How lond goes it take to recover.Cause my mom is gonna be on cruches I think

  • where and how we can find an excelent podriaty

(that means the doctor who deals with foot problems)and cost?

  • the doctor is a podiatrist

  • how much does this cost?

    The procedure I mean?

  • well that depends where you are. if your in the UK, providing you qualify, you can get it for free through the NHS. but if your somewhere else, e.g. america, canada.. then im sorry i have no idea.

  • 1rst u need crunches for like 2 weeks, then a special shoe , but do let ur feet rest a lot coz one foot i didnt let it rest like it should, so it hurted and the scars show much more now.

  • i had both my feet done, its worth doing it,now i feel no pain at all, and have pretty nice feet, very little scar.

  • how long it took to heal? you had to use crunches for a while?

  • @GamerDude60 i have to get surgery november 18, they said you usually dont need cruches

  • Hi! I have a few questions about the Bunion Surgery.

1st, is the screw permenantly left in?

2nd, can you wear heels after this?

3rd, can you use ur foot as much as normal afterwards, like will u ever be able to use it as much ever again? (i.e. tennis, lots of excercise?)

    Thank you.

  • wow they put me to sleep when they did it and they only did one foot

  • I have to have that done..yuck!..:(( Do they sedate you or knock you out??

  • i had it done, and basically they put u to sleep and when i wake up u feel nothing. but it hurts about a few days later when the numbness goes away..but it's cool not too painfull unless u put pressure on ur foot

  • I find something VERY HOT about this video. Your feet are super pretty!

  • hahah you freak!!!!!

  • Very informative video. I have bunions on both feet that are becoming rather bothersome. I wore some gorgeous shoes Saturday night that ended up being painful to walk in because of the bunions - had a huge blister on the bunion on my right foot as a result the next day- ouch!

  • Why did you choose to have the scar on the top instead the more discreet side? I thought this was standard procedure these days...?

  • How are you doing now? A lot better I'm sure. I had my the bunion removed from my left foot in November 2006 in the hospital under General Anesthesia. I experienced nauseousness and extreme drowsiness afterwards. I chose to be awake during this surgery in February 2007 because medical procedures interest me. I also appreciated being able to ask the doctor questions and learn what was going on and why. This worked very well for me, but I understand it wouldn't for many people.

  • First of all I am really surprised by how many people view these videos. I did not realize the number of people that I could help by sharing my experience. This surgery was very successful. I received full medical release in May, and I went white water rafting to celebrate. Much to my surprise my feet were still tender, but I still had fun. I was able to have a very active summer with backpacking, camping, drift boating on the River, Missions trip to Mexico. I am very glad I had it done.

  • i had mine last week

i dnt know wat yall talkn bout

my surgery and recovery is fine

the pain isnt as bad as people sayit is and im WAY younger than yall

  • Thank you for sharing your experience with us. I had a pretty good experience with this surgery. I used very little Vicodin for pain management for the first week following surgery. I kept my foot elevated and used ice to help keep the swelling down. It is important to follow the doctor's instructions on how much time you spend on your foot following surgery. I went back to work one week after surgery but had to keep my foot elevated. I have a very nice straight foot now!

  • did it leave a scar?

  • Mkeesh29, where are you from?

  • how much was it?

  • It was about $2,000 cheaper than having it done in the hospital. I went to a podiatrist and would recommend that anybody considering having a bunionectomy do the same. An orthopedic surgeon performed a bunionectomy on this same foot 20 years before this one, and it was obviously not a successful surgery. I am very happy to say that this surgery was 100% successful!

  • that place looks unsterile!....i had a bunionectomy too on June 10, 2008 i can't wait to see my right foot normal again :( it still looks big lol

  • I know what you mean about how the surgery room in the doctor's office looks unsterile, but it was sterile. You can even hear the doctor giving us instructions on where to stand and where to keep our hands. I also know what you mean about your foot looking big still. I think it took my foot about 4 month before the swelling was completely gone. It looked pretty good about 8 weeks after surgery, but even better a couple months after that. It will happen and you will be happy!

  • I had this surgery done June 12 2008. It was described as "complicated" and it required bone grafts, seven screws, and a plate.

I am stubbornly impatient and I started walking on it "sort of" carefully, within about five days; VERY stupid. A couple of days later, "crack!" I suspected that something bad had happened. A second surgery was necessary (26 July), and I have 2 more screws inside, and 2 pins out, one between my big and next toe! Please treat this very seriously if you have it done!

  • Oh no I am so sorry about what happened to you. Thank you for sharing the warning with us. How are you doing now?
