This sim is AMAZING, its looks stunning and has stunning physics! Though on some controllers there is still significant steering input lag which ruins the driving experience (0.2-0.5 seconds delay between steering wheel input and actual steering)...
@TheRighteous123 With the current build (149) input lag has been minimized well below those values, so it's not the game anymore giving such input lag values. Something else is causing that, either in the hardware set-up or in the game set-up (e.g. Vsync enabled or gamepad filtering accidentally enabled).
@ReDi72 You are correct sir, managed to get rid of the lag today! It appears that it was V-Sync that was the major culprit! Also reducing gfx card pre-frame rendering from 3 to 1 helped to reduce it some more! Now it drives just great!!
@zpsmaster The track is called Connecticut Hill in the game because it is not licensed yet. You spotted well that it's Watkins, but calling me an idiot without having informed why I called the track differently is a little less impressive.
Well your opinion is dumb also. While you're at it, remove the driver from the car as well, since clearly you're supposed to be the replacement. And the seats, and the pedals, and even in some cases the stick shift.
Watching in/out cockpit replays would be so entertaining...
Your post is also invalid as I have already been informed by the OP that it would happen, long ago. My biggest gripe is the guy who was arguing with me saying the wheel and pedals shouldn't be there either.
Visually stunning? Sure, maybe. Great game? Sure, maybe. Sim-like? Far far from it. While the floaty feeling from Shift is mostly gone, there's still some issues that appear to have been carried over.
It feels the same, in the way that the game is driving a bit for you. It's almost as if there's aids you can't turn off. There's the 'progressive' steering still. When I turn my wheel 45 degrees I want the feeling I've turned that much, not just a bit. There's hope, I guess. Bring on RF2.
@SquallyTeaLeaf The game driving a bit for you? No idea what you're talking about, must be your wheel settings. As for the judgement bit at the beginning of your reply, you're making the same mistake as most people. The game's development has just started, IT IS NOT A FINISHED GAME.
if you turn your wheel 45 degrees while going 150 mph you'll understeer, if that's what you call not a sim you should get out and try it for real and then hit a tree.
@Fifa10Woeterman It's already open for registering. For 10 euros you can participate in the development of the game, allowing you to play monthly builds (25 euros for weekly builds).
@FloMonKish Dude, that's simply a field of view thing, and nothing else. Increase the fov in any game, and it will feel faster. Simply because you see everything through a fisheye lense. Setting the fov to a realistic value (55-65 for your average setup) and sense of speed is reduced. Simple as that...
@FredrikSoerlie Um, no dude. 55-65 for FOV is NOT realistic. Typical gamers these days are playing at 1920x1080 or very similar resolutions. 55-65 is nowhere near accurate.
@godtiergamingnews And that statement is based on what source? What typical gamers use is irrelevant. Most games have way to high FOV settings to be realistic. Unless your a feet away from a 50" monitor, your FOV should be in the range I suggested. In some cases even lower. It's pure math, so nothing to have an opinion on really. I sit two feet from at 27" monitor at full HD, and to get an accurate FOV I use about 50-55.
@FloMonKish It's common in most sims, such as iRacing, rFactor and Live for Speed. I guess consoles don't allow it as they want everyone to have the same fov.
@MrKwameR Basically the attitude. Can't and won't dig up the details of that, can only tell that I wasn't the one who banned you as others within the NG staff are less patient than I am...
@ReDi72 I wasn't rude to anyone, I said something along the lines of fresh dogshit would be better than S2U and was banned for life.....thing is mate, no one in their right mind would think my lifelong ban was unrelated to my comments here in this thread as my last Nogrip comment was so lame, and was made yesterday.
The truth is, u blokes can't stand the heat and ban your way out of trouble yet expect to viewed as a credible source for info on a racing simulator.....as if!!!!!!!!
@MrKwameR If you think you were banned because you didn't like S2U then you couldn't be more wrong. I couldn't care less what games you do and don't like, as long as you use decent language and provide decentarguments. Your ban was a result of non-decent language and a long history of it on NG, not just a single posting. Anyway, enough of that, not really the place to discuss this. Go read forums, community reviews, comments, watch some videos, you're welcome to join the project later :-)
@MrKwameR If that's your pre-conceived opinion based on watching one video then just leave it alone, will ya? Go be ignorant somewhere else, you have no idea what the whole project is about. You don't even know how the game currently feels in its pre-alpha state. Haters gonna hate, eh?
@ReDi72 aren't you the guy who challenges people as to why they question the sim basis of NFS Shift2 unleased?....is that really u?
My experience with S2 over 2 steering wheels that it's an unfinished turd with boat anchor physx, yet the same people are now going to revolutionize the sim/racing market.
Tell me how to make sense of all this, tell me why u consider S2 a sim, tell me why we should take your word for it when u seem to be unware of what a sim feels like, do you even own a car?
@MrKwameR S2U is a sim all right and a fun game to play, just not a very good sim in the hardcore definition because SMS had to compromise the physics to cater the intended audience - game pad players, SMS fully acknowledged publicly that S2U wasn't as good as they had wanted it to be for the above reasons. So because SMS were forced to compromise the physics, they don't know how to make a good race sim? They made GTR2 and GT Legends, by the way, or doesn't that count?
@ReDi72 I owned a number of Aussie muscle cars such as a SLR Torana with a 308 bored and stroked to 330cid, I also owned the heavier LTD's and Fairlanes with 351 Windsor and Cleveland engines, but what do you own?

@XantimSWE Well yes I sort of agree, I hate them warez suckers passionately because of their total lack of respect for the devs. Still, using rude language makes me feel I'm lowering myself to their level ;-)
just tried it out myself and I havo to say I'm pretty impressed. Ffb, sound and graphics are fantastic. I hope that the physics will improve alot because the car just felt like it was on rails or something, but considering this is a pre alfa I'm thrilled.
@wip3e Which car? You have to realize that all other sims that we have been playing are quite unrealistic when it comes to tyre modeling and grip levels. Hard to control isn't the same as realistic ;)
@ReDi72 F68 for example. The physics feel like they came from shift to be honest. If you think that these current physics and tire model are best there is then I can't agree with you. Of course the fact that car canät even be adjusted yet makes it difficult to feel the physics but honestly they are not in iRacing, GPL or rFactor level at the moment and it would be pretty weird if they were. Getting the tiremodel and physics right takes months of tweaking but they'll get it right I have no doubt.
@wip3e I think that 'realism' discussions are quite pointless, especially if games with proven wrong/simplified tyre and physics models are referred to as being 'realistic'. CARS needs a lot of work still, and indeed not being able to set up the car gives little room for judgement yet. However, there is no doubt that CARS's physics model is much more advanced than anything out there, iRacing left out because I don't know enough about the game ;-)
@ReDi72 So you are saying that Need For Speed has better physics and tire model than purpose built simulators. If that is your opinion then it's fine but seriously :DDD
@wip3e I'm saying it has a better physics model. The Shift games were aimed at console/gamepad players and therefore the physics parameters/model was compromised. That doesn't make the model itself bad. Those 'purpose built simulators' are also full of approximations, shortcuts and omissions in their models. Read up on the physics model behind C.A.R.S., you'll be surprised ;-)
@ReDi72 I know nothing about physics model and you may well be right. I only know that at the moment some other sims feel more like driving a real car on the track than this does. I hope that SMS can unveil the full potential of the physics model but my opinion is that it still need tweaking :)
>Shift games were aimed at console/gamepad players
just a note. i'm playing on a gamepad and i cant agree. e.g. shift 2 totally sucks when it comes to steering on a gamepad using analog sticks - the game reacts almost as if i play on keyboard, so stupid. at least for me. tried diff setups but still shit.
@ReDi72 While I think the physics are by no means perfect I agree with you that they are very, very good indeed and certainly miles better than SHIFT 1 or 2 (which were cack). You mention iRacing.............honestly it's not even worth comparing because iRacing has the worst, strangest physics in any racing sim. Just rubbish.
If any comparision should be made it is NetKar Pro that is the benchmark. CARS is still a fair way off that level of quality in terms of physics.
@patlezinc The game aims to offer the best FFB ever felt in a game. All of the game's elements are designed and optimized based on community input. So if you want to make sure that the FFB is going to be perfect, join the project and start talking to the devs :-)
@ReDi72 I have discovered the realfeel with "game stock car". In terms of driving, it is the best sim I have ever driven (since microporse Grand prix in 1991!). When I run on other sims now, they are... flat!
Did you run on game stock car? It seems that you are really involved in this project. Perhaps you could test this game...
I know this is very early build but will things like Tyre wear, rubber buildup, blowouts, and such be included in final build? Also do you plan to have an option to show drivers hands and shifting. I know some people like having that and some that don't. Anyway I plan to get in on the action soon. I'm really looking forward to seeing what you guys do with rally. You could suck me dry of cash with some good looking RBR rallying.
@ImoonPeople About tire wear and rubber build up, I can't see the point: back those days (1968) they was just starting to experiment with softer tyres, there were no practice tyres and they could race twice or even more with the same tyretrain... those were the days
@MERSLK230 In what way are they disappointing? I'm driving carefully here as the car is quite a bitch if you overdo it :-) The cockpit movement is exaggerated because of the huge FOV that I used. Lastly: the game is pre-alpha, it has 1.5 years of development to go before it is finished. Lots of things will be added, improved and changed.
@ReDi72 They just dont seem right, it looks very arcadish. The graphics look pretty cool but the driving doesnt look very crisp. Looks a bit lagged too.
@ReDi72 As a long time GPL user (67original hard and pure), I've always contemned other sims. This time I'm quite in a awe: to me it looks terribly good. Can't really estimate your physics without giving a try at it, but to look at your front wheels make me almost feel each single bump of the tarmac (if there's something missing in dear old GPL imo is right that kind of stuff). A question, if it's not too early: are you getting involved in aerodynamics or cars won't have wings? keep it up ;)
I will punch a baby straight on the face if they fuck up the drivability in this one like they did in shift 2

Visuals and sounds are great but that lack of driving skill is painful to watch
teamphat 4 months ago
@teamphat More a lack of decent wheel set-up ;-)
ReDi72 4 months ago
@teamphat Feel free to post a video of a 'properly driven' lap so we can see what was wrong. Thanks.
