I used to work with a guy who was the spitting image of Mr Claypole, so that quickly became his nickname. This guy later joined the police and his colleagues also nicknamed him Claypole.
Just when I thought that things couldn't get any worse with every other great tune of my youth being sampled. remixed and rapped over..... I find out that this gem of my childhood is the subject of a Hollywood film involving of all people, Ben Stiller. How can this be? Is nothing sacred?
I have been finding all of my favourite 70 and 80 TV programmes on YouTube and now I found the first ever episode of Rentaghost, I am so excited that I have just wet myself for the 100th time.
I am sorry to hear about Bob Block has dies. Rentaghost may not be Beetlejuice but it has given me joy as a kid and now watching this on Youtube has givem me more joy. As for the American version, if it appears, it won't be ever the same. Do they understand it at all?
- Bob Block, writer of many comedies including Rentaghost passed away peacefully in his sleep 17th April 2011, aged 89. My respect and condolences go out to all his remaining family and to Bob himself for providing so many thousands of us with happy memories. Bob, you will never be forgotten in our hearts and minds -
@Hitchmeister I've only just heard about the possibility of Rentaghost being made into a movie & now through this, I discover that Russel Brand may be in it! Aaaarrrggh! I can't stand that fella at all. Not cos of the way he dresses but cos of the way he conducts himself & talks. I also think that making this into a movie will destroy the original series & make a mockery of it. I'll not be going to see it if it is brought out as a film.
@barney5635 He isn't in it now, now they have Ben Stiller instead... The film will be nothing like Rentaghost, but will completely sully its name. Bloody Hollywood, is there nothing they cannot spoil?
@Hitchmeister Thank fuck Brand isn't in it! There seems to be a lot of remakes happening these days of old classics, especially in Hollywood. I think the film writers have run out of original ideas & are only remaking old films to cash in with a new generation who haven't seen the original. A lot of things seem to be about just making money these days & nothing to do with actual talent. The music industry is just the same. I dread the future of the world when everybody seeks quick buzzes...

@wajiha101 sorry dude, I won't put any more up, though you can always buy the DVD :) I highly reccomend it for any fans. Or you can possibly find the original videos which are brilliant :)
@Hitchmeister Hi Hitch. I'm very sad to have to tell you that my dearest Dad, Bob Block who wrote Rentaghost and so many other brilliant comedies, died peacefully in his sleep yesterday 17th April 2011, aged 89. Thank you so much for all of your dedications to him and his work. We as a family are so proud of his creative genius and will be continuing to try and bring his writing to a larger audience. Thanks again, and best wishes. Trish Bignell (nee Block)
@Trishbiker I am truly sorry for your loss Trish and my respects go out to you and your family. Bobs legacy shall carry on after him, we, the fans, shall see to that.
I have decided to upload episode 2 from series 1, to complement this one. Series 1 was IMO the best of them all (and I recently watched 7 series of them so I know :p) and as the family seem happy this is here I thought it would be ok. @Trishbiker if you or your dad would prefer it if i didn't upload episode 2 just say and I will take it back down.
Now I just need my Ivor the Engine EP01 to go up too and my childhood is nearly complete! :D
Chikdren's TV used to amazing - treat kids like intelligent persons. I loved Rentaghost. The theme tune brings back such memories! I would watch it every week without fail.
Anthony Jackson is very much like Steven Moore. People must get them mixed up a lot!
This is long overdue for a remake, but hopefully one which respects the original concept (like Dr. Who) rather than just exploiting the franchise (like the A-Team movie)
@mecotterill The A-Team movie is jolly good actually. I was suspicious (it's probably my favourite show), but I ended up loving the film. It's a fine updating, and splendidly daft.
I'd be interested to see how a Rentaghost remake could work. I wonder if they could get away with having the lead character talk about drowning, and his body never being found. Not much in keeping with modern kids' stuff.
@eocarcharia I also enjoyed the A-Team remake, it worked well. I don't want to see a remake of Rentaghost though unless Bob was on the team and in todays market I don't see that happening. Anyone else would IMO miss all the subtle jokes.
@jimmysherriff One website has reported a rumour that it is going ahead. Nothing official seems to exist, thankfully. If they do remake it it will suck. I guess if they do then all these will be forced off the net too :( Happened with Rhubarb already.
Thanks Hitchmeister for these! For the vast majority of those who have only wonderful memories of Rentaghost, it was written by the prolific comedy writer Bob Block, who happens to be my Dad! We have embedded these videos in the website we run for him. Anyone interested, please go to Bob Block scriptwriter to see more of his work. Thanks!
@Trishbiker I think most people love it, some just don't get it or want to admit that they love it, people are strange :) I and many others think your Dad is bloody brilliant and I thank him for the memories he gave me.
@Hitchmeister - Thanks very much for that - of course it's OK! Thanks also for your very kind comments - I'll pass them on to Dad. Our family believes he has been very overlooked for the amount of pleasure he has given to people over the years and hope to recitfy it somewhat with the website. Still lots more to do though!
@Trishbiker i loved this show when i was younger trish your dad was a marvel fro writing shows he made and still does make alot of ppl happy with lovely memories you must be very proud of him
@rob39uk - thank you so much for your lovely comments. We are all very proud of him as a family and it is when we hear from people such as yourself about how much pleasure his work has given them, we are even more proud. I will pass your comments on to him - I know he will be so thrilled to hear how many happy memories he's given you and others. Thanks xx
Not everyone will like this I see, but for the huge majority of people who loved it as a child, Rentaghost was conceived and written by my Dad, Bob Block and we have started a website as a tribute to his prodigious contribution to comedy from the 1950s - 1980s. I have embeded these videos on his website thanks. Anyone interested in his work, please go to: bob-block-scriptwriter.co.uk Thanks!

@deankhan123 so agree im 33 this year and feel the same, endless summer days riding bikes, eating tip tops and climbing trees till dark.. lived for those summers... and everything was so exciting to us.... youth has lost its "sparkle" its sad.....
