  • Hello. Thank you for this very valuable & safe information. You just may have saved my life. Now I will not make my own convertible - BUT I do have a question - Why did you recommend purchasing a Saab if I wanted a convertible?? Now would that be a factory Convertible Saab OR would that be a do-it-yourself Convertible Saab?? Thank You. Sincerely, JAMES.

  • @buzzclark Saab has factory convertibles that are built amazingly strong, the doors overlap the rocker panel so on a side impact they dont cave in also the rocker is thick steel that goes up the A pillar and around the windshield like a roll bar, not all are built like that. also it is not uncommon to buy a 94 or older under $1500 also if you look up ( SAAB Convertible crash test ) or (Convertible Saab flipped over) then something like ( dodge neon crash test ) you can watch the differance.

  • Hello. I feel like doing this myself - however, I have heard that if the body of the car is not sufficiently reinforced to stabilize a convertible & hold the rest of the body together without the top part & door pillars you could have devastating & disasterous results out on the road. Has your Tercel held up well over the period of time?? I'd really appreciate some feedback. Thank You. Sincerely, JAMES.

  • @buzzclark the tercel started bending within 1 week of driving it in normal conditions, it kept twisting till the doors didnt fit but I kept re-aligning them. if I had an accident I would be safer driving an accordion. in a front hit the dashboard will come down in your lap and the windshield will take your head off, even if I welded in support bars it would not be as strong unless I built a roll cage. every time I drove I thought of a tierod end snapping and flipping flattening the windshield.

  • @buzzclark even though it was so fun to drive it was dangerious and stay tuned because I am going to make a video of it with a blow up doll driving it into a boulder before I scrap it. so you will how bad it is. if you want a convertible do what I did and buy a Saab. even when I put it on my lift with the top down the doors dont bend.

  • I have a 95 Toyota Tercel with over 400,000 miles on it awesome cars, awesome video :)

  • The Tercel never came as a factory ragtop. The Paseo did,but they are so rare I have only seenone and it was on Craigslist.I actually bought an 88 Tercel coupe from a salvage yard last year with plans of a similar procect. But the head gasket blew first.

Right now I have an 88 Sen\tra coupe tah I bought with the saame intention. But I need another car before I can cut this one up.

  • Excellent choice in music, unlike so many other Youtube videos...

It seems like the Tercel looks pretty good as a convertible. Remove the back seats and extend the trunk about half-way into that space, and then build a retracting vinyl roof - it'll be really awesome then. (though I imagine it's gone by now)

  • @howitzer86 odly enough I still have the tercel and I did put a piece of plywood over the back seat to give it the 2 seater look and this week I will video it starting up for the first time this year and I will be putting a blow up doll in it and she will drive it into a boulder blowing the air bag

  • how much to do this to my car?

  • @Jaguar7444 I'll do it for free as long as we can make a video of it and we will have you out of here in less then 1 hour.

  • @AdirondackNY sounds good lol. I wanna do it. I hear that makes the frame unstable so it has to be reinforced somehow. So I'd want to figure that out first.

Also, I didn't realize Adirondack, NY is like 5 hours from Central NJ.

  • @Jaguar7444 Just get a sawzall and cut the roof off thats it all you pretty much have to worry about is the inside roof light :)

  • doesnt the tercel already have an official convertible version or was that the paseo?

  • Do you by any chance still have the tercel? I need new seats.. lol

  • @rbmj89 the seats are shot, I still got it and I am about to make a video of blowing the engine.

  • @AdirondackNY HA HA. Can't wait to see that. Sux the seats are no good tho. I will be looking foward to seeing it take its final few minutes of run time.

  • Actually, from 3:15 on, it's quite an awesome video.

From the point the guy backs it up, drives off around the

garage and then it re-appears, through the trees,

climbing up to Tercel heaven as the singer sings,

    "No regrets........"

    Actually, quite nice!

    alf

PS: Look for the American flag waving amidst the

trees and.... even a chicken in the foreground...

    what's not to like?

  • I like it i'm shure you could sell that car to someone now 214000 hard miles is nothing for a turcel maby the valve seals failed but thats not that bad

  • @Michael99959 the motor shakes and runs on 2cyl at idle with bad injectors, it leaks and burns oil, about 1quart per 50 miles and has no exhaust, and is rotted severely, and the junk yard will give me 200 bucks for her so she will go soon to the shreader and I will cut another car up

  • @AdirondackNY sound's alot like mine but mine runs on all 4 at idle and I have an exhaust my frame also dosent have any rust

  • @AdirondackNY doesnt sound to hard fix...ever heard of engine swap?
