Teach your dog to pay attention to your face - When I look at Andy, he knows he has to stop - not looking means he can run and get the toy. Initially, you should combine the "looking" with a verbal cue (such as "stop"). Once your dog does that reliably, start to fade the verbal cue. This is the challenging part... took me several months to get my dog to a reliable stop because you don't want to "look" at him too early as that would slow him down.
Thats a great vid and quite the pup :-) I have a 2 1/2 yr old Jack Russel, hes the best dog in the world until we get outside and he see's something like another dog or animal, then he has absolutley no recall. If we are outside and there are no distractions, he comes just fine, any help on solving my problem, I've gave it an honest shot and seem to be failing in this area
Thanks! He certainly could be. Andy is an amazing dog - lots of drive and very smart. Unfortunately, he has bad elbows and I can't let him jump. Its a real shame.
That is one gorgeous around to heel, man! Head up, FAST - beautiful!!

I sure would like to know how you taught him to stop... my dog is high drive like that and just can't seem to collect himself enough to stop.
