  • I've found my perfect style of music in this man. I can't explain; it makes me feel like I want to be).

  • knopfler 4ever!!! :)

  • I swear they should put a warning label on this song ''CAUTION THIS SONG IS HABIT FORMING.'' every time I hear it I have to play it at least 10 times

  • THIS IS SO COOL!!!!!!

  • Have to agree with drummy667 that it does not get much better than this. Subtle and captivating on so many levels.

  • it dont get any better, pure class

  • this video show's realy swing, it is easy, with enjoy an high level: Love it.

  • Goin to see Mark in concert with Bob Dylan in the 02 Dublin Oct 6th...Lookin forward to it......

  • @MrBluey1 So nice. I'm still not sure that I can go watch them in concert at Geneva's arena in the 16 Oct. (sorry for my bad english)

  • A big strong daddy and a big strong boy, livin in a big strong land. I'm sorry, it just don't get any better than this.

  • how ANYONE could post a neg on this is beyond belief

i have noticed over the years how Marks eyes have lost the shine, they look dead.

Working with the best all his life, maybe he needs go fishing, discover the joy again Sonny is still shining though

Mk was always and is still my fave composer, guitarist, all round.

I never heard of Sonny til now, brilliant Brilliant!!!! thank you

  • pure magic <3

  • pleased to see that Sonny is getting the appreciation he deserves

  • Great ! I love it !!!

  • kukan ostais vaatteita Markille ?

  • bought the Crossroads '10 on blue-ray some months back, i'm only 17 so the name Sonny Landreth hadn't entered my world just yet, but GOD DAMN IT NOW IT HAS AND IT STAYS FOREVER!

  • this song always puts a smile on my face :)

  • there are moments in life ... just moments ... when something really worthwhile goes by ... and if you're lucky, you're paying attention enough so that you see it ... hear it ... enjoy it ... and appreciate it ... if you like it, shut up and pay attention ... if i like it and you don't , shut up and let me pay attention ... either way ... shut up and let the man play ... it ain't about who's better ...

  • Ry Cooder is an outstanding player. But be serious, he's not in Sonny Landreth's class as a slide guitarist and Ry knows it.

Thing about virtuosos like Sonny -- or Danny Gatton -- they don't seek much recogniztion. And the music they write isn't all that popular. But the other musicians know.

  • Fantastic, great to hear chemistry between musicians, and feel.

  • Better slide player than Ry Cooder? Please...

  • Sonny Landreth one of Louisiana's favorite sons...when you hear him live I swear you forget to breathe..

  • @kajunmoon /Until you have seen Sonny live, you have not have had the chance to meet, and see, and listen to the undisputable best ever player on slide guitar, bar none players. He is so amazing, there can only be one, and that is Sonny Landreth/wynn richardson...baton rouge La

  • stop fighting guys. The song is fucking awesome. Have fun with it (:

  • 6 guys are Cannibals ;-)

  • When I first heard this song I was 1000% certain it was about George W. Bush. Then I read the lyrics and found out it was written in 1996. So I have no idea what it is about.

  • @88wildcat Mark K was frightened of cannibals when he was a child and would ask his Dad for reassurance that there weren't any around! That's the inspiration for the song. Personal and rather sweet really.

  • @88wildcat /you must be a dumbfuck obama fuckhead for fuckin with music, and interjecting YOUR politics into a musical genre, fuck you, may you die an early death, for your fucked up comments/wynn...baton rouge

  • @88wildcat It`s about a wee boy who is afraid of the `world` and what he hears about on the news. All the shit that going on, he dont understand. That why he`s asking his Daddy `goody or a baddie` ? and then being a wee child asking questions .."can I have a dinosaur, why do people go to war`. A Brilliant song from the mind of the brilliant Mark Knopfler.

  • beginning to understand - the name is God, but Jesus, Jehovah, Mark Knopfler, Shiva, Tangra, Amon-Ra are the nicknames :)

  • @zlobar69 /ya left out sonny landreth/lafayette louisiana/wynn/baton rouge

  • Such a joy to watch. Not only a brilliant bunch of musicians lead by one of the worlds greatest singer songwriters, but they just seem to be having so much fun doing it.

  • just beautiful!

  • They had a lot of fun doing this one! I love to listen to it! ;)

  • the drummer is incredible,

  • @aspensubi28 That's the great Chad Cromwell.

  • gotta love the intro

  • love the intro.

  • Intro is sooooooooo good.

And dont even let me start with the outrooooooo

  • Le duo Landreth/Knopfler est une merveille! J'adore!!!

  • @tannerr96 I take it as a bit of tongue-in-cheek: there used to be cannibals but people don't do that anymore... but they're doing a lot of awful stuff.

BUT- if you google Mark Knopfler- Cannibals- what does the song mean? the 2nd result is an MK forum where someone gives an entirely different view. I guess I was also thinking about the mention of people going to war.

I love this song- one of my favorites... and like all of MK's stuff- there's a lot to think about in the lyrics!

  • love this guy's piano/wynn

  • Sonny Landreth is my guitar god, he is the best slide guitarist that ever will be/Wynn/Baton Rouge La

  • Man- this song... so so great! This must have been a fantastic concert!

  • Greatest slide player? I vote for Ry Cooder...

  • @billw1948 Sonny's got some very cool tricks & licks that no one else has, and Sonny & Ry may be equal in tone, accuracy, & taste, but Ry outstrips Sonny, & every other slide player, in his depth & breadth of mastered styles. If I were forced to listen to only one guitarist, slide or not, it'd be Ry. (Aside from that, a big part of Sonny's education was touring with John Hiatt in support of a cd Ry played on. It'd be untrue to say there'd be no Sonny without Ry, but Ry helped.)

  • I like it

  • I like Knopfler a whole lot, but Sonny Landreth is to me, the way, tha truth, and tha light when it comes to playing slide guitar, he is, all ways will be the greatest slide guitarist until the end of time. I am also from Louisiana, lol like

    Sonny is/Lafayette...Wynn Richardson

  • some of this sounds very reggae , carribean

  • Mark is the greatest rock guitarist and songwriter

  • ♫"I think that the reason he sounds so different is 'cause of where he's from. I can hear fiddles a lot in his playing, just from the way he raises the notes. Slide is just another voice you can have. You can really make a guitar sound like a person, and Sonny Landreth knows what that's about."♫

  • This song is way too happy sounding to be called "Cannibals." Unless those cannibals are really happy.....

  • Nobody has more feeling for music, simply splendidly

  • I know this live version for years, but it still reminds me that it's way better than the version that comes with the Single.

  • i can't drive my car without listening to his music...

  • this is far beyond good music !

  • Many people get upset that I listen to songs I like over and over, well here's to many years. Oh well it suck to be them!

  • dergrossen, have you checked out Knopfler and Atkins? good stuff!

  • @hanalei169

    I just bought that CD...sweet.

  • god I love when the best musicians in the world can still look at each other and smile after years of playing.

  • good good good good

  • yeahh Mark & Sonny! Quote: "I think that the reason he sounds so different is 'cause of where he's from. I can hear fiddles a lot in his playing, just from the way he raises the notes. Slide is just another voice you can have. You can really make a guitar sound like a person, and Sonny knows what that's about."

Dobro ace and six-time Grammy winner:~Jerry Douglas

  • This is our reward of the free world

  • Shame on the people who didn't like this.

  • I just lobe the beguining. Just notice how they are having fun. These must be some of the best artists (I really think they are the best)!

  • You are always right not to lower yourself to the level of the cannibals, besides you would not like the deadrats meat ,but you can easily or by all means ...take them out.

  • number one...!!!

  • Just stumbled onto this. See you later.

  • Does any one know who does the//Knopfler's orchestration?

  • @hanalei169 he does

  • Oh man, they are having a blast! So am I!

  • Sonny Landreth es un increíble guitarrista, hizo un muy buen trabajo.

  • Now that's it's finally 2010, I can start to get excited about seeing MK in NYC in May!!!!......did someone just "Get Lucky"? :)

Hope I can get some footage for all you fans!

  • The thing about Landreth, aside from his talent, is that the man is really humble and never got the recognition he truly deserved.

  • agreed!!

  • @4rainbowed Amen to that.

  • @4rainbowed Yep, he still plays roadhouses around here. His lack of recognition is our gain I guess. Just hope it's worth his while to keep it up.

  • @4rainbowed -he's not in need of fortune and fame... He's beyond that point..!!

  • wow- that was great!

  • awesome intro

  • Although to be fair, Landreth should have received far more fame and accolades than he ever has.. but still, Derek Trucks, Ry Cooder, and Mick Taylor could give his slide a run for their money!

  • They'd have to run mighty hard to get close to Landreth.

  • @4rainbowed not to mention dwayne and lowell george. and, bonnie raitt

  • Yeah flopcat-- and the great Rory Gallagher. He was the most awesome slide players. I just didn't mention him, Duane or Lowell, since they're all in guitar heaven now.

  • @4rainbowed Hey don't forget, God Forbid, the late great Lowell George, mighty nigh to peerless on the slide guitar, I am positive everyone you have listed would more than agree as to Lowell's talent on the Slide! And Sonny, bless his heart, more than deseves any and all recognition he receives!

  • that's how music should be played live.

  • This is a master class in musicianship!!

Phenomenal!! Not a misstep, no cringe factor....this is how it's DONE!!!

  • Absolut gigantisch, Knopfler u.Landreth sind die Grössten !!!!

  • WOW!!!!! M. K. & Sonny Landreth! The best live intro I have seen in years, every musician on the stage is SPOT ON!!! Just when you think you have nothing more to say about Knopfler along comes a performance, like this, to absolutely die for! What a NIGHT IN LONDON!!! Not semi-precious, precious is not enough, pure GOLD, HECK YES! God Save Mark Knopfler! Thanks to: Platoon99, You Tube, and R O S!!!!!!!!

  • eller förresten hela låten är ju guld!!!!!!!

  • Här kan man snacka om intro.. så jävla gött!!!!

  • my feet seem to have a mind of their own and have been tapping uncontrollably during this song! : ]

  • Just realized it was the same for me!

  • Once upon a time there were cannibals.

Now there are no cannibals anymore!!!

  • ? Mark Knopfler did a great job. This is one of my favourite of his solo career songs (Punish the Monkey is my #1 fave).

  • It's called marketability, and I'm not sure how you can make a comment like that and try to follow it up with....I love DS.

It's a matter of taste, because surely you aren't saying Mark Knopfler's work here is anything less than great, right?

2 more thumbs down and your outta here!! And maybe that's an example of righteousness! :)

  • And now that I had a few minutes to let your comment sink in... MK has never followed suit to commercialism like just about every other "artist" out there....he plays what he feels, all emotions on the line....no "tricks". And certainly, nothing was destroyed here!

  • Once upon a time there was real music

Now only few survivors from the past are doing it! :)

  • This song is amazing, just not quite sure why they called it Cannibals. Love the intro, and the song itself from a boy's point of view is just beautiful. I LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • When they showed it on BBC they cut some of it, typical. buy-a-beat,net

  • GREAT!!!!!!!! :)

  • what musicians they are !

  • They should have put this version on the album, the sound is amazing

  • very very BEAUTIFUL!!!

  • Fuck the Dead. This is some real feel good music.

  • Fantastic.. All the players seem to be in perfect harmony. All of them seem to be giving a huge contribution to this amazing song.

  • Buy the dvd people, it's an awesome show! :-)

  • bass = Glenn Worf

  • for awhile i thought he was John illsley but hes not. he's Glen Worlf

  • Does anyone know who the piano player is?

Note his solo at the end. I heard this show about 10 yrs ago audio and couldn't figure out who it was; now it's the same concert, and I still don't know. Hope someone can help. --Jan

  • This is definitely one of the tastiest performances ever. Thanks, Platoon99, for posting this.

  • Hargus Melvin Robbins?

  • He is the wonderful Jimmy Cox. He played in Mark's first solo album (Golden Heart) and was a member of the band of this tour. He is a master piano player. He also played at a couple more Mark's album but I think he didn't tour since then.
