  • The melody of that song that Rodney sings sounds very much like his "Till I Can Gain Control Again"--not the choruses but the verses.

  • Nashville in the sixties and seventies was, for singer songwriters, what being in Paris during the Twenties was for Hemingway and F.Scott.

  • Good songs and lots of booze. Dont get much better.

  • is the guy playing first earle?

  • @thetrolltobe or gram perhaps??

  • @thetrolltobe

Gram was dead by this time, and wasn't really a part of this Nashville scene. He was better known, living in LA and hanging with the Stones.

  • @thetrolltobe

Not to mention this is Steve's song.

  • @thetrolltobe It's Steve Earle

  • THANKYOU!

this dvd is like £50 to buy.

and i would'nt mind if it was even available.

but it's rare as rockin' horse shit!

    nice1 :)

  • Wheres part 2? lol

  • A very young Steve. i follow him since many years. And he has special place in my blog. love you steve!!!

  • Trying to track this DVD down in region 2 format. Semi-impossible these days.

  • Thats a young skinny Steve Earle

  • Priceless. Thank you. Is there also a CD?

  • ANDERSON FAIRE RESTAURANT on Grant Street, in the Montrose District in Houston. Y'all come.

  • Is there anywhere where the world still goes something like this, or has the passion for music completely drained out of this selfish country?

If there is a place, tell me so I can move there.

I am so sick of over processed people just trying to make money and cool songs.

  • as far as i'm concerned, this song alone is "cooler" than any of the so called music being played on bullshit radio today. It's absolutely disgraceful what passes for music these days.

  • It's possible in every living room or back porch anywhere you live. I've been a part of countless nights just like this. Make it happen where you are.

  • Unfortunately none of my friends are into this sort of thing.

  • @tripthelightfilm One word, my friend: Luckenbach

  • Thanks for all the positive comments, folks. Glad I could put it up here for you to see!

  • This is an awesome video! Thanks for posting this absolute gem.

  • Rodney always looked like an old hillbilly woman (head between my knees for all the thumbs down headed my way, lol! - BUT WHAT IS WITH THAT SHIRT?!!!)

  • The fro doesn't help.

  • lol.. agreed

  • Don't worry about getting thumbs down. I vote you up for that comment every time I watch this video (at least once a week). It's keeping you in the green!

  • LOL... hey I am not the only one who has ever said that either, anyway! THX! ;-)

  • Amazing. I'm not too sure about the shirt Rodney Crowell is wearing, though. It looks like something I'd expect to find in my Granny's Goodwill donation.

  • The guy with the receding hairline and the thick moustache and brown sweater is Steve Young I believe. Another brilliant songwriter. "Seven Bridges Road" anybody? Actually, it's a good thing Townes wasn't there. That much young talent in one spot might break some law of physics or something.

This series of videos sends chills down my spine. Thank god someone had a camera rolling that night!!

  • I recognize a very young Steve Earle, Townes, and Guy Clark in the vids. I'm not familiar with the other musicians, but they are great! Is the entire video just the 25 minutes that has been posted, or is it longer? Anyone know how I can get a hold of this?

  • These clips are extras on the Heartworn Highway dvd. it's a great dvd, highly recommended.

  • I would also recommend "Be Here To Love Me." It's a documentary about Townes Van Zandt.

  • Townes was in the Heartworn Highways documentary, but I didn't see him in any of these Christmas Eve videos. Either way, there was more pure talent in that room than there has probably been in any room in a long time. Guy Clark, Steve Earle, Rodney Crowell and all of the other guys. Highly recommend Heartworn Highways......UNREAL!

  • Great, thank you. You are right on TVZ--I must have seen him from another vid here from this DVD. Also, after some looking around, I see that you can get the DVD on eBay, Amazon, etc. Thanks for posting these phenomenal clips of music that was fortunate enough to escape the pop spotlights!

  • I bought mine off of Amazon for 8 bucks if that's any cheaper for you. Like I said, it's well worth the money. I think the documentary was filmed in 1975, but it wasn't released until something like '81. It just got brushed under the rug.

  • Did you get the one that was just re-released{in '05, I think}? There is supposed to be ALOT of cool bonus material on there..I agree totally, by the way! These guys are all priceless!!

  • Yes, bought the new one. The Christmas Eve videos are def. the coolest of the bonus footage, though.

  • I can't even imagine what kind of talent was in that room...
