Any school that wants to remain competitive in this day and age is going to have a poor graduation rate. Good players go Pro early. an 18 year old kid doesn't weigh a degree in liberal arts as heavily as say 2 mill a year. Most top College basketball recruits are there because it is a stepping stone to the NBA. It has nothing to do with the coaching. If they can get drafted high enough to get paid they are gone. plain and simple.
You know what Calhoun needs to get his facts straight, the basketball program at UCONN doesn't generate 12 million dollars a year. Free Market based salary ? No it's not. Each financially winning team must have more than 25 other teams that lose games and money. Most of that money comes from non-voluntary student fees who pay for 25 arenas, 25 head coaches, countless staff and 'scholar'-ships to 'students' who have low learning abilities. Okafor graduated in 3 yrs and went pro.

Most top College basketball recruits are there because it is a stepping stone to the NBA. It has nothing to do with the coaching. You know what Calhoun needs to get his facts straight, the basketball program at UCONN doesn't generate 12 million dollars a year. He is not a good coach.He is a thug, who needs to stop stealing recruits from other schools. His program is full of guys with shady past, and his graduation rate is putrid. His program is constantly under fire by the NCAA. People like him, Calipari, and Huggins shouldn't be allowed to be near higher institutions.

Actually they do and I could give you a link to a source if you really wanted. Second, he is a great coach. He built up a program that had no prestige before he got there and won national titles. And you're kidding yourself if you don't think even the classiest coaches don't steal recruits from each other. IT'S THEIR JOB. And I'm not a UCONN fan and don't even have any Big East allegiances.

Free Market based salary ? No it's not. Each financially winning team must have more than 25 other teams that lose games and money. Most of that money comes from non-voluntary student fees who pay for 25 arenas, 25 head coaches, countless staff and 'scholar'-ships to 'students' who have low learning abilities. The real students pay for it all whether they want to or not. It is not based on a free market.

Obviously you don't understand the 'market value' of certain positions, in this case, in particular, the value of having one of the best NCAA Division 1 Basketball coaches in the country.
Jim Calhoun ability to run a basketball program, which already resulted in 2 National Championships (in Final Four right now). That brings in millions and millions of dollars to the University. If UCONN doesn't want to pay him that much...then some other school would and then UCONN would lose out big time...

His huge salary does come from public taxes. You have to see the big picture. Each college team that makes a profit depends on having about 25 other college teams that lose games and lose money. It's not just the big head coachs' salaries, but 25 large staffs, the 25 buildings, 25 maintenance 25 utilities and last but not least, billions in scholarships to people who are have low abilities. The students at the 25 schools pay for the athletic programs, whether they want to or not.

He gets paid through tv deals to Uconn. These so called other teams get paid to play Uconn so they benefit from Calhoun's success. When Uconn is playing shmoe joe on espn they gey paid too. You segregate athletes as being dumb. Their craft is sports and they don't need to stay in school the whole 4 years. Alot leave early and some come back for their diploma. Okafor graduated in 3 yrs and went pro.
