I am amazed this hyena is still alive. At the time of this video the hyena is a full grown adult. It has now been 5 years and 3 months since the video was uploaded. And she is still alive? Wow what a survivor.
Great Video! I Just visited Africa and found the animals there magnificent. If you would, take a couple minutes to watch my African Serengeti video, thanks!!
This Hyena actually survived her injuries and became the matriarch of her own clan. She is known as Floppy Ear in and around Djuma Game Reserve. In fact, she was just viewed yesterday on the live Safari Drive that goes out twice daily from Djuma Game Reserve via the internet.
Poor thing. Hyenas get a bad rap. They have to eat like anyone. I dont get why Lions are held in such high esteem and Hyenas are not. That stupid Disney movie "the Lion King" probably put Hyenas in a bad light. Oh well. People are so stupid.
@KENA429 It's so true that many people just aren't too evolved enough to put apart fantasy from reality ; sad, but true... This said, i am myself a hyena lover, and surprisingly enough, it all started with The Lion King and its hyena trio ! ^^ Perhaps it's just me having odd tastes, now, but at any rate, Disney's attempt at portraying hyenas as evil happily backfired in my case ! :)
Yes actually I saw this on live cam. Next day 2-3 days this hyena return to that water hole and worst sick and thin and walk like dying....I'm pretty sure die after 4-5 days later...
ouch.... maybe from a lion or another hyena =( .. and might die of bacteria and diseases .. soon. but yea lets go show our manlyhood and shoot them with our rifles! maybe from the safety of a helicopter

@TheBigBeavis Some conflicting reports about their life span but it seems in the wild they can live up to 20 - 25 yrs and 40 (+/-) yrs in captivity.

I was thinking of an AK on a jeep - better stability.

That would be pretty hard to pull off , I would highly recommend a belt fed weapon if you plan on hanging out the door of a helicopter .
