  • I just couldn't stop listening, although I've heard the piece played hundreds of times.

    I'm sure von Sauer had the magical performance of Liszt himself in mind when he recorded it.

  • Interestingly, co-Liszt-pupil, Friedheim plays the dotted-rhythm melody idea with almost exactly the same rhythmic hesitation before the downbeat as Sauer does. I have posted his performance here too.
