I really like this video because you didn't edit out problems that arose. Prepares people better for the reality of what they MIGHT run into. GOOD video. Thanks!
Dump the music for good verbal instructions! If you are not saving the tub why butcher the wall? Your work is sloppy and dirty, try picking up the debris rather than pushing it around. Use the wrench correctly not backwards!! If you are looking for business I would think this video would discourage it. You did a fairly good job on showing how to release the tub from the plumbing the rest was awful!!!
Thanks, this video helped out! And as for re-using a tub, the whole purpose is to replace it with something new, who cares if it's scratched, it's probably already bad in the first place! Good video!
Some one show the man how to use Channel locks. He's using them backwards. Seriously, the direction he's holding them is forcing the jaws open when you twist whatever you're turning. Flip them over and you won't have to squeeze them closed so tight.
Holy crap..I had all thes steps completed but couldnt figure out how the heck to get the bathtub out without destroying my wall....he was no help with that obviously. He has the luxury here of beating out the corner of the wall and sliding the tub out. Mine is located about 6 feet down my bathroom wall. And my bathroom is the same width all the way to the bathroom door. So there has to be a different way of getting the tub out of there
This professional is by far the best I've viewed. His instruction has helped me with every project in my bathroom. Why people take the time to write such ignorant, un-informed comments is beyond me.

I'm glad he's not working in my house. Can you imagine how scratched your bath would be after he'd finished. All those tools laying in the bath. What a COWBOY.
Hi TileMasterGa, I just want to know what's the silver cylinder thingy called. the tool that you used to loosen the drain part. I find your link very helpful and trying to look for that tool to loosen my tub.
It looks like I could have learned something here but I'm not even going to finish watching because I can't here a word over the music. Not everyone has the same taste in music so i wish How to Video's would leave music out. If I want music I would turn on my stereo.
Have you guys ever "filled in" the underneath air space with some of the expanding foam insulation stuff that comes in a can (after the tub is secured)? Seems like an excellent way to obtain sound dampening as well as insulation (R-value) around the tub perimeter..
Love the dipshits who ask for no music so they can hear what you are saying. == missing such critical info as "now I hit this part with my hammer... now I unscrew this plug,,, now... lift this part" --- These are the same helpless creatures who probably read "do not open here" on the side of their milk carton and then walk into another room in order to open it... Great vid guys. Love the upbeat jams..
I wish I could have picked up my tub like that. I have a big cast iron fucking thing. We were going to get rid of it, but there was no way we were going to get it down the stairs, lol. So we're keeping it.
It is less messy to cut a steel tub in half (or in 3 pieces) with a reciprocating saw and remove it in sections... especially if you are not tearing out the walls but just replacing the tub. A $60 reciprocating saw with a metal cutting blade will cut through a steel tub very quickly. One of my tenants just blew his brains out in his bathtub (RIP) and I had to remove the tub cleanly without destroying the rest of the bathroom.
Just curious about the "replace a bathtub" part of the title...how to level, types of shim material, circumventing consequences of out-of-plumb walls even if the tub is installed level? Thanks
I don't have that special tool for removeing the tub drain. My wife will be home in two days and this reno has got to be wrapped. Do you have a suggestion other than to purchase the special tool?
If your going to throw the tub away anyway cut the tub in half or put a towel on it and hit it with a heavy sledge to break it in half. The sledge will work on castiron
@TileMasterGa That was not a cast iron tub! Nobody with arms like yours (nor many other) could lift it from the end with the claw of the hammer. Nice try fooling everyone.
@TileMasterGa Nope. YT puts comments in strange order sometimes. I watched your vid and one of the first questions I saw started: What do you do with the old cast iron tub after you remove it?
