  • 0:48 FTW??

  • fucking sickest air awareness

  • Random skate crash at 0:48!

  • And every single one of those guys now has terrible knee pain!

  • I did a quint with a half twist from a cliff. Check it out!

  • @danballarin dude that quint was sick!! nice!!

  • scary music

  • Hey GunnyRules, post a video of your dad Ed Gunny's winning still ring routine in the 1966 NCAA championships. His straight arm pull to an iron cross from a hanging position to open his routine was epic. At the time Modern Gymnast magazine called it the mythical iron butterfly. Your dad was also great on the horizontal bar.

  • @wayout3 No kidding -- I saw the film shortly after the Nationals. GunnyRules put me in touch with his Dad who was a hero and sometime mentor of mine, since I used to workout at El Camino College, and he said he would post it -- it really should be up there. NOBODY is using that mount anymore that I know of. He also had a high bar dismount -- a 1 1/2 off the backside -- he said the first time he used it in a meet one of the judges came out of his chair to try and save him! LMAO

  • he did...its true

  • Bad ass....

  • epic dude

  • when was this

  • @TVMushrooms the video in this is from YEARS ago, they didn't have high quality cameras. -_________-'

  • what year was this??

  • @LMA629 2009

  • @corvettecam97 There's no way this was 2009. You can tell by the video quality that it's from the '70s, plus that's when they had these flying rings on that beach, They don't do flying rings anymore.

  • whats up with the random black guy sitting at 0:48?

  • @missgymnastgirl101 4 backflips of front flips in a row.

  • @missgymnastgirl101 4 flips without touching the ground between the flips

  • no comment 10**********

  • OOPS -- I said this was Louie West -- Sorry

  • This was not the first quad ever done, but it is being done by Dennis Sherman who did the 1st quad on July 20th 1969 at about 2:00PM PST 20 min after the 1st moon landing. Greg Friel did the 2nd quad one week later, Mark Davis was the 3rd , and Val Dero was the 4th.

  • @DWSQuadman Right -- at least somebody remembers the details. Mark Davis was an incredible high bar man, too -- and he may have been the first to compete a triple off the High Bar.

  • Comment removed

  • I believe the guy who did that quad back then was Mark Davis and he was a good friend of mine when I was on the Southern Illinois gymnastics team. Richard Hawthorne

  • I also believe he got some great coverage in the Modern Gymnast magazine also as the first to ever throw the quad. I wonder what happened to him. I heard he was in the circus for a while, but that was just rumor.

  • How come they did the competion's inside? What year(s) were that?

  • that is incredible! and they do it outside in the SAND! nice

  • Wow. on the beach?

  • o: 48?¿! xDDDDDDDDDDDD

  • one word WOW!

  • I think it comes from a video named "a century of trampoline"

  • hardcore!

  • 0:48 wtf is that? a skate boarder?

  • When was this taken from. I thought Steve Elliott was the first to do a quad. Amazing footage none-the-less.

  • and not an*

  • wow these moves are sooo difficult an amazing! I can't believe they are landing on sand! that must be really hard!

  • dang even back then ghetto flipping off rings and they still had perfect form

  • haha I like how people say gymnasts wont get laid...gymnasts and swimmers/divers get more girls than a football jockey. Face the facts

  • your going to die a virgin

  • this has to be in like the '70s??

  • Isn't that Ed Gunny, 1965 right?

  • im sure if we had swings like that on the play ground we could all do that...sure there would be a broken bone here and there but you know when we were 5 we would still do it...i know i would have lol kids are crazy

  • and on sand too. sick!!!

  • ther was a quad with a triple twist in the 80s

  • Oh shit! =0

    O_o

  • Comment removed

  • thas my dad!!! ED GUNNY!!! he was the man!!!

  • your dad eh? i just binged this fellow and the first 3 sponsored results were about erectile dysfunction (and eeverything else had nothing to do with acrobatics) so unless he was the first one to discover it too, he isn't as famous as he should be :P

*i joke, take no offence :)*

  • @JustElijah HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA this made my day

  • @jexxy good to know :)

  • that is so amazing someday i wanna do that

  • great

  • i bet cushions weren't on trend on those times.

  • and they land on the ground! that must hurt in their knees and feet and stuff!

  • gives me shin splints just watching

  • haha lol

  • @skrotillium ur excatly rite take it from a person who had them for a whole month not un at ALL

  • Yes it's true. I was there -- at muscle beach in Santa Monica. There was a "triple flyaway club" -- about eight guys who threw triples off the flying rings. One of the most awesome of these guys was Louie West, shown here doing the first quad -- it was around 1968. The club included some NCAA champions like Ed Gunny and Dan (peaceful warrior) Millman. This film really takes me back.

    Thank you.

  • @JimmyDeLocke Did they not have any soft mats to land on back then?

  • @Jesusdragon737 the first "crash pads," now known as 8 inchers, weren't around until the early seventies. In the 60's the best we had was 3" horsehair (!!) with a panel mat on top. We used to do floor on the basketball court!

  • what made the FIG turn rings into still rings?

  • @missmouse35 There were two events in the olden days -- Still Rings and Flying Rings -- They did away with the flying ring event because it was considered too dangerous.

  • :O demaciado increible

  • :O!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • theres two quads ... at 50 sec and the very last move.

  • i take it back haha cool

  • @willbmedia retard !

  • their landings are amazing! and for such difficult moves!!

  • The Quad is at 50 seconds! This is footage from the old Santa Monica Gymfests from the late 60's? Early 70's for sure. Mark Davis was, I believe, the first to throw a quad on flying (swinging) rings. The sand was piled up for a soft landing, but I would imagine still possibly treacherous.

  • Comment removed

  • @garryyuen Your right about the time frame this is from 1969 but Mark Davis didn't do a his one and only quad till 1971.

  • LOL... DAMN THAT GUY IS GOOD :O

TuesdayPillow: yeah.. wtf was that ... :O

  • wheres the quad ?

  • these people are fucking legends !

  • wow! its completely takes away from the rings now that they cant swing like that anymore! thOSE looked cooler than nything ive ever seen on rings!

  • to bad u can't swing like that on the rings anymore

  • wow, they do quadruple flips and land on hard soil!! Thats so awesome!!!

  • badass!

  • in the sand

  • The swining rings scares the crap out of me!!!! I'm glad they got rid of it in competition, do you know if they still compete it anywhere?

  • swinging rings look absolutley terrifying

  • 0:48 damn roller =)

  • sorry i didnt get that video

  • its the last few secs

  • If that don't get you laid...nothing will...might as well just curl up and die.

  • wtf

  • @SPOOKSTR

Looking like a monkey gets you laid?

  • i dont think he would have landed it if there wern't like 5 ppl spotting him, but that was still awsome

  • if you ask me, the last quad would have landed.

    and were only 2 peeps.

  • loll xx

  • yes that is the first one landed. My friend used to do a lot of that kind of stuff but never quads only triples.

  • that seems so scary. how long ago was this?

  • Salto, I don;t know if that is the first quad ever. Can you please tell me the year? Thanks!

  • Comment removed

  • Whoaaa

  • I have seen this video many, many, times before, and this is not the first quad ever TRIED, but it is the first landed. There were other attempts, that didn't work out so well that were filmed, but it is too close to the people and hardly visable.
