When something obviously isn't human, it's human qualities stand out. (Think C-3PO) With these ponies, things like eyes, face, hair, and body language jump to your brain's recognition in contrast to their cartoon appearance. You're brain is merely translating the human equivalent so subtly and quickly you don't consciously notice it.
