  • no wrestling ...boring

  • machida karate is brilliant

  • mano chinzo ta seco

  • he sounds like link

  • a good fight would be ninja rua vs machida bro in middle wight

  • I wonder if Chinzo will go into MMA.

  • @RileyOcelot

That would be great if Chinzo went into MMA. He's already had one fight. I think he would do great.

  • @RileyOcelot Chinzo is an MMA Fighter

  • im not really sure u can say machida is the best karateka ever..i think thats pushing it a lil. i dont know how high of a level he went on world competitions in karate...in terms of karate kumite..i think aghayev has got to be one of the best..

  • @nikdat aghayev cant survive in real fight like mma even 1 minuts.. fake shotokan.

  • shane lacy on the wall? 0_o

  • @rodfpuncher valew pelo lol xD

  • sick

  • The Brazilians are the best fighters you know, so shut up. seu americano viadinhus

  • @NINJAZist lol hahaha

  • YES YES YES

  • lyoto machida is the best karateka i have ever seen. ther are awesome world champs and grandmasters of shotokan, but machida is sick. he uses karate so well, he times, he works with his feet, he puts the opponent into traps...a legend for the future DEFINITLY

and i exited to see hisbrother in action, he is an awesome competitor too, but i think lyoto is justthe best

  • @CarlitoJohnson where are shototkan world champions?tell me name who is doing shotokan and became k1,strike force, ufc, champion? lyoto is bjj black belt hos wreslter, and doing kickboxing long time.. tell me any shotokan people who was champion.shookan is not fighting art it is fake

  • @Freestyleartclub no, i can not tell you another name. The reason though for this is that there are barely shotokan fighters who make the transition.

Same with boxing: barely any of them are in mma. Reason? Hard to adapt to the mma octagon. That doesnt mean boxing is ineffective.

    Your argument is absolutely invalid.

  • @CarlitoJohnson

You can't even talk to this guy. He's just purposely being a retard and not acceptng the fact that Shotokan and other forms of Karate can be used effectively to beat the shit out of sombody.

And I at lol at him claiming that Lyoto is a wrestler and black belt in BJJ being the reason he can win.

Machida has 2 submission wins, and like 7 KO/TKO victories. Machida uses his Shotokan style stand up to knock people on their ass, not BJJ to win fights.

    This guy is a moron.

  • @HomesliceDrummer sure is true man. BJJ and Wrestling are essential to Lyoto, but I do believe that if this was K1, Lyoto would be quite successful. The thing is just, if Lyoto is able to avoid grappling, he faces opponents who are not as skilled in striking than the K1 fighters, so he would have greater chances in winning.

I personally dont believe Machida fits into K1, but he would make a name for himself if he wanted to.

  • @Freestyleartclub Its about quality not quantity

  • @CarlitoJohnson it is all about training system.

  • @Freestyleartclub

It's not all about the training system. You can't teach a pussy to be a good fighter.

You can, hoever, teach a talented athlete how to kick someone's ass regardless of the training system an dtechnique used.

  • @Freestyleartclub

Your argument doesn't make any sense. Any Muay Thai or Kickboxing fighter who isn't very good at wrestling and BJJ would also get taken down and submitted withn a minute in MMA.

Karate and no wrestling/bjj = lose in MMA

Muay Thai and no wrestling/bjj = lose in MMA

Karate or Muay Thai with good BJJ and wrestling = win in MMA

They are both good choices to train for striking.

Please, stop being a stupid, bias, ignorant douche.

  • @HomesliceDrummer you are so stupid..we talking about muay thai and karate//both stan up system..there is no fucking chance to compare muay thai such i shittest art like shotokan.

  • @Freestyleartclub

No chance to compare? Then why did Machida kick the shit out of Muay Thai fighters by using Shotokan?

Face it dude, you are just being an ignorant cunt. You are so frickin stupid that it's not even funny. Keep on hating all you want, but it's just your own bad for being such a close-minded faggot.

  • @HomesliceDrummer i am laughing non stop...shogun fucked machida out...show me one fight where lyoto kickced muay thai fighters using shotokan? shotokan is woman art for pyssys,,if shotokan would be fighting art machida would not pay expensive fee and train blackhouse gym in usa whoch is muay thai gym..he would go to japan and train shotokan..lyoto machida bjj black belt, werstler and last 4 years training muay thai..shotokan has nothing to do here..shotokan is gay

  • @HomesliceDrummer milllions training shotokan, if shotokan good enough where are other champions? sho me k1 champion??ufc?pride?strik force? where are they? lyoto bjj and wrestling and muay thai master.. i did not see he use fake shotokan punches or kickes.. all champons from muay thai.. how can you compare ferarri vs toyota. shotokan is fake ..hahahah only keyboard wariros with no fight record belivie in shotokan loser

  • @HomesliceDrummer and as bas rutten said muay thai fighters dick hits harder then shotokan dancers

  • looks like chinzo is breaking more of a sweat than lyoto

  • its because Lyoto had a fight in a week or two after this taping, which means you dont wanna risk anything.

  • its a muay thai bag i think

  • what type of punching bag is that? long tower the ground. where can i get that?

  • its a muay thai bag and its gonna run u at least $200 and up

  • Lyoto Machida is gonna win UFC 104!!! YEEEE!!

  • @bozo14151 well he will win at ufc 113 go machida

  • P.s.: I'm a portuguese speaker so I've heard Lyoto adress this issue a hundred times already. Of course he spars with MT practioners, as he does with practiociners of everything he will find in MMA, but even more obviously his striking is pure Shotokan (except for the Thai clinch). People needn't ask him, it's just a matter of having a pair of functional neurons and minor knowledge of the style he practices.

  • its not "pure" shotokan karate. his father tweaked it and changed a little bit of it to fight bigger guys (since hes short), and I can tell machida added elbows and knees to it. It looks really really good. I can see how he translates so well into mma. Im a new fan of his. I hope he whoops shoguns ass.

  • very fast champion!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • btw, his ''muay thai training'' consisted in training for three months and dropping it altogether. you can see his interview for tatame magazine, which was just translated for the latest issue of fighters only, i guess. mt nuthuggers are just terrified that someone could achieve so much with karate; it's funny to watch, really.

  • As a Muay Thai nuthugger myself. I could careless what Lyoto uses because so many champions use Muay Thai that one guy really doesn't matter

  • Too bad his high kicks are classic muay thai, with the turning of the hip, the throwing of the arm, and the hitting of the shin. Same go for his kicks to the body. You know the body kick followed by a same-side straight punch? My Muay Thai instructor was doing that years ago. You're stupid, mendacious, disingenuous moron. Shut the hell up.

  • WHOA A ROUNDHOUSE KICK WITH THE TURNING OF THE HIP!! THAT IS SO UNTHINKABLE IT MUST OBVIOUSLY BE A VERY EXCLUSIVE TECHNIQUE. AND KICKS TO THE BODY!!!KICKS TO THE BODY!! (that one almost made me choke with laughing) Too bad you aren't smart enough to realize the same techniques are repeated throughout hundreds of martial arts and this has been in Shotokan since forever. The super secret roundhouse kick is called the mawashigeri and you're going to pick it up in the first lessons.

  • You know the body kick followed by a same-side straight punch? Yoshizo Machida and hundreds of others were doing it when your shitty instructor was wearing diapers and you weren't yet eating your own shit.

  • hahah good one. way to shut that guy up. lol

  • Is lyoto's brother going into mma too?

  • He was... I just wanna know when's he gonna fight again.

  • he's fighting shogun before the spring

  • those were from wikipedia, which shows that machida's base is karate. it is unthinkable for anyone to believe that they do not need to cross train in order to be an effective fighter at the sport of mma. bruce lee made a point a long time ago teaching people that the most effective fighters are well-versed in more than just their first chosen or most studied discipline. what does the jui-jitsu fighter do against a boxer who can't be taken down if he never studies boxing and vice versa?

  • jeet kune do

  • he's a bjj black belt, and a scairly good one at that. and he is also a sumo fighter. that's all his cross-training, although he practiced other modalities for a few months when he was younger, and studies them in theory. lyoto didn't just jump into mma, it's his goal since he was fifteen (and a karate black belt already)

  • n college, Machida met Japanese pro wrestler and promoter Antonio Inoki. Because he saw potential in Machida, Inoki took him as a protégé and billed him as an upcoming star.[12][13] Machida continued training by taking up Muay Thai in Thailand and wrestling at the New Japan Pro Wrestling dojo in Tokyo.

  • "Machida was born in the city of Salvador as the third son of the highly ranked head of the Brazilian branch of the Japan Karate Association,[7] Shotokan karate master Yoshizo Machida.[8] Growing up in Belém, Machida began training in karate at the age of three, and earned his black belt at the age of thirteen.[9] He also began training in sumo at twelve and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu at fifteen. He won a number of amateur karate tournaments, including the 2001 Pan American Karate tournament.[10]

  • Seems like alot of you are forgetting that Lyoto Machida learns Muay Thai and Karate so his striking is defenetly not pure Karate and it is far from it, the style of Karate his father taught him is also modified so its not like he did normal karate like Kenpo or Kyokushin.

  • uhm no the style of Karate was only modified for taller ppl haha doesnt take away from its Karateness. and also incase u didnt every stylist has to lea4rn something from muay thai am i right? it doesnt matter if ur boxing u have to learn how to kick, and check kicks, doesnt tkae away from him being karate and btw he is definitely more karate, just accept it that Karate is being used as a legit style, things change ppl change..

  • Well, his trainer teaches him Muay thai and hes also a black belt in BJJ, and his style of karate is modified, the stance is modified and alot of other things are aswell as said by his father who tought him karate, and you cant really call Karate a legit style unless it becomes atleast half as popular as Muay Thai right now theres like 5 MMA fighters who use karate.

  • even if 5 mma fighters use karate, 2 of them are the champions.

    GSP is Karate

Machida is Karate and both are champions.

karate is at this point the sport with the most UFC current champions :)

  • Yes, but GSP has done Kickboxing for much longer than he has done karate.

  • @mtk4life gsp and karate?kyokushin is not karate shototkan...shotokan does not have any champions...lyoto is bjj black belt, and wresltler for stan up he uses muay thai.

  • lol does it matter did you know boxing was modified to, i heard a fighter say it himself. the boxing in MMA is very modified, u cant do all the bobbing and weaving, and loopy boixng like in pro boxing, the point is he brings a whole new style to MMA. and proves that the style can work well, also too in my experience in Karate, NO his style of karate isnt that modified, it still is very much like shotokan, just like BJJ and JJJ its still jiu jitsu

  • Obviously you cant bob and weave in MMA like in you do in boxing cuz you'll get caught by a kick, thats obvious even to my 7 year old sister, and he doesnt only train karate for striking he has trained boxing as well in the past but now he trains Muay Thai and if you think JJJ and BJJ are alike you have never trained either of them.

  • yea but its too bad that wat u just said doesnt really have an affect on my statement about how karate can work an b very useful wen mixd with the correct elements and wen the fighter trains hard???? no really though, no affect btw i doubt ur little 7 yr old uses as much karate in his game as machida can although you should train him too, he or she would b even better..timing, distance, and better countering its a gr8 countering, gr8 styles of karate's out there

  • dude, unless you dont watch randy fight, he bobs and weaves like a fucking pro

  • hey excused my ignorance but whats JJJ? I know BJJ is brazilian jujitsu.. so machida is training muay thai now?

  • Japanese jujitsu

  • @hazard2000 its called SHOTOKAN idiot

  • Chinzo looks like he needs a haircut. His hair is getting kind of unruly.

  • Those who bash TKD, karate or other styles aren't martial artists. It is not about the style, it is about the individual. If the individual can implement different styles into their arsenal like I have been for several years, and choose wisely what works and what doesn't, they to can become a devastating fighter. Read Tao of Jeet Kune Do, and you'll realize modern mixed martial arts is Jeet Kune Do; a concept of many styles. We've went against the concept and narrow it down to 3 styles.

  • @LocalTsunami agreed............ i hate people who compare styles like calling it "muay thai kick" against "TKD kick" THEY ARE JUST KICKS! unless we have 4 arms and 4 legs, the word, "style" is meanlingless

  • @sharinganWS "unless we have 4 arms and 4 legs, the word, "style" is meanlingless" bruce lee

  • @mfuji02 completely true.....

  • Like Bas Rutten says: A black belt in the USA is worth a green belt in Europe.

  • And white belt in japan

  • they should breed brazilian and japanese to make more spartan warriors like machida.

  • Nice pic of Shane Lacey (Choy Lay Fut Buk Sing fighter) in the background from Inside Kung Fu Magazine.

  • Its good to see someone with a karate base fighting well in the ufc, anybody whos been training in REAL karate have known what is possible to adapt to cage fighting.Hopefully the genral public will respect karateka more now.American point fighting has given it a bad name for long enough.

  • Yeah but the main thing is grappling. I saw another vid of him working out with a Judo guy. The main styles in MMA are BJJ, Greco, Freestyle and Thai Kickboxing. Karate is cool but Machida has worked out with a lot more than just Karate. BJJ owns karate.

  • A little takedown defense and Karate owns BJJ.

  • Machida is a black belt in BJJ. GSP does not use his Karate nor did Chuck. It takes a lot mora than a little takedown defense, more like years of takedown defense.

Fedor nor Anderson Silva use much Karate. I know Silva has a belt in Karate but he doesn't use it.

  • A friend of mine knows Karate and learned takedown defense (no BJJ). Now he stuffs BJJ or Judo takedowns most of the time. That's why we said goodbye to the Gracies once they got figured out.

Machida prevents 85% of takedowns and relies much on his Karate stance and striking to win. He will use his BJJ only when he's on the ground which is not often. He has great takedown defense due to his Sumo training. We saw the Sumo move when he bulldozed Evans all the way to the fence of the cage.

  • I repeat Machida trains with an Olympic level Judoka.

  • its too bad he doesnt use judo and uses karate sweeps judo isnt the only style with good sweeps.

  • iv seen iks from silva that are not nessasarily thai so yeah iv seen some use of it

  • lol these are stupid arguments but eventually you are going to get taken down, like it or not,but i respect karate, thai bjj, whatever, its brue lee and jeet kune do we should listen to,have no style

  • yak6ex, while I don't totally agree with you, there is a point to what you're saying. I'll describe what I think is happening with Lyoto:

He has the ground game, good takedown/defense game, but most pro MMA fighters have these things. What gives Lyoto the edge is his Karate which gives him great timing, distancing, and accuracy. Of course, his grappling skills have allowed him to use his Karate effectively.

  • Yeah but not just any style of Karate. It has to be Machida Karate.

  • Wow, you seem to be Naive. Machida Karate? You are too concerned with which style is the best. Ultimately it depends on how much work you're willing to put in. My instructor gave me some good advice about choosing martial arts schools: the teacher is more important than the style.

Look up Andy Hug. He didn't do "Machida Karate", but he made it work.

Also, Cung Le uses TKD effectively (and I thought TKD was a joke! O_O).

Ultimately it depends on the fighter, his training and total random stuff

  • tkd is a joke.

  • tell that to Cung Le, Andy Hug, Serkan Yilmaz, Bill Wallace, Lucio Aurelio, and many others whose kicking skills come mostly from TKD.

The art isn't a joke, but certain people who practice it can be a joke. I have seen TKD guys that were pretty much jokes, but they were a bad representation of the art.

  • maby your right I come from a boxing backround I am thinking about martial arts from what I seen tkd is a joke I dont know the concept of tkd so maby I shouldn't judge.

  • Not if you use it with other martial arts. Kicks are just part of the equation, as is your punches, your ground game, standing game, etc.

Every style falls short somewhere, so then you supplement it with another.

    Hence 'Mixed Martial Arts'.

  • I understand that but why is tkd and even karate is not taken seriously? I was pretty niave to tkd still kinda am, but I know this guy who does tkd and he has beaten the shit out some guys it makes me change my mind about tkd.

  • Well if you leave TKD or Karate by themselves, I too would say that they aren't very practical. But again, if you piece them together with other arts, then you've got something.

To answer the question on why they aren't taken seriously, just plain ignorance. TKD and Karate are structured fighting styles and they fall apart in a street fight when people just throw random swings. I guess that plays a part into why they are joked about.

  • very true the reason I thought that is because I come from a boxing backround. But any martial art can be effictive if taught and trained properly. Now I been told Hapkido is good it has a mixture of tkd and grappling which work in self defense situations.

  • I am a first degree black belt in TKD and I hated it because I thought it was a joke too. I no longer train in TKD but I still carry the various kicks in my fighting aresenal. Take away bullshit forms and inadequate blocking techniques, TKD could be worth the time and money to learn.

  • You also have to find a good school creditable instructors because some of that waterd down kiddy ymc bullshit wont do you any justice.

  • True that, I learned that the hard way.

  • yea, i agree.

a teapot is useless without a spout or a handle or even a lid. you gotta add these different parts that serves different functions.

  • @leavemealone2006 listen pal, TKD is a joke, yes I know Cung Le is a black belt, but what he uses is Sanda, chinese kickboxing... its like anderson Silva is a judo black belt, but his style is Muay Thai, but he hasnt even been doin no muay thai

  • @fuckingarmbar

    -_-

    you totally missed the point

which style is not very important as long as your fighting is based on the core fundamentals of combat. And you're right, olympic style Taekwondo doesn't cover all the fundamentals which is why it has many weaknesses.

I've been fortunate to train at a traditional Taekwondo school and under an instructor who is realistic and considers all aspects of fighting.

  • @leavemealone2006 Actually, the primary fighting style of Cung Le is Sanshou (Sanda), not TKD...

  • @Sheik06

Cung Le's first martial art was TKD. Then he went on to become a successful college wrestler. Only after college did he begin to study Sanda. The foundation of his kicking technique is TKD and the foundation of his takedowns and grappling is Freestyle Wrestling. Sanda helped him to put it all together (as well as giving him a flying scissor kick lol). In a particular article, Cung Le is actually quoted saying that he got his kicking skill from TKD.

  • @leavemealone2006 cung lee didnt wrestle college hes not even that good a wrestler he wrestled in highschool but thats it, but your right about his TKD

  • @leavemealone2006

Great call on Andy Hug. That man was brilliant!

And you are totally right, it is not the style, it's all on the people. Just like almost everything in life.

  • @leavemealone2006 cung le isn`t from TKD he trains sanshou

  • @dre9292 he does train TKD dude, he has vids on here to prove it

  • Machida karate is shotokan karate just to let u know

  • It's just Shotokan with a new name and a little grappling thrown in.

  • more like shotokan and alittle thai boxing w/ grappling defense. either way he's the shit.

  • @yak6ex its not "machida karate" its actually exactly like SHOTOKAN

  • @rtn362 shotokan is dancing machida use some kicks from muay thai and his bjj black belt..he do not do kata when he fight his fighting shotokan is dancing

  • @Freestyleartclub machida actually threw muay thai out of his game plan for good shotokan is alot more than a dance it has knees and elbows just like muay thai its actually a pretty brutal MA but yea he gave it up after his loss to rampage in a interview he said hes been giving muay thai a chance for a good while working with anderson silva and others but thinks hes best off sticking to his roots (Shotokan) cause thats where he fights the best

  • @Freestyleartclub

    That's such an ignorant statement.

Shotokan in it's pure combat form is pretty brutal.

Of course you don't use kata step by step in a fight. That's not what it is for. Kata teaches you to be a master of control over your physical body, exceptional balance and strength in athletic positions, and proper form.

  • @HomesliceDrummer when you wasting your time with kata , someone somewhere hitting heaby bags thai pads, and sparring, then you cant compare your self with that guy..fighti is not only theory, it is condition, aerobci level, anaerobic level, bone condition, etc..with kata you do not get them..85 % of shotokan air punches air kicks, with fake stance...no sparring at all with contact.. come one man you know better then me shotokan not art anymore just theory

  • @Freestyleartclub

Kata is not a waste of time, if trained properly.

Is it more practical to learn how to slip punches and counter effectively with a sparring partner? Of course. That's what stand up fighting is all about really.

If you think the only thing that karate practitioners do is kata, then you are seriously misinformed and ignorant to boot.

Most of karate training is spent doing actual stand up skills, and hand to hand sparring with enough force to KO somebody.

  • @HomesliceDrummer people only with no fight records like you can belivie that kata is martial arts.. you guys still do not understand that karate shototkan is theory not realistic at all...

  • @Freestyleartclub

Actually, I do have a fight record in MMA of 3-0.

The very origin of Martial Arts included kata as part of the "art" portion of hand to hand combat.

Are you absolutely dense and retarded? Shotokan, in the hardest of form (not kata, but the actual fighting form of Shotokan) is very realistic for fighting. If you don't think so, then you are truly stupid.

Watch Machida kick serious ass using Shotokan approach and technique. He destroys guys with REAL karate.

  • @HomesliceDrummer I do have a fight record in MMA of 3-0?? i ma laughing as karate you are fake too..show me any of your fight in mma where u using fake shotokan..shotokan shiteest martial arts in hystory, funakoshi was weak and seak.he created shotokan to make money,if shotokan can stand up in mma 2 minuts i would kill my self. shotokan is fake..like you.oh my god 21 century some kids still belivie in secret lol :))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))

  • @Freestyleartclub

    watch?v=A5gYuCAgvV4

Watch this video. Machida, who sticks to Shotokan style standup fighting, absolutely destroys boxers and Muay Thai style fighters.

He competes in the most competitive MMA league that exists, and is one of the best in the world, and is a former world Champion, who knocked guys out using Shotokan karate to obtain the title.

Quit being so blind and ignorant. It's like talking to a small child.

  • @HomesliceDrummer machida bjj black belt, and wrestling champion..his training in usa blackhouse gym which is muay thai gym...if shotokan would work he would not go muay thai gym he would go to japan and train fake shotokan...millions training shotokan never ever in ufc they took a belt..even in k1/// lyoto uses muay thai thats all...shotokan shittest martial arts in hystory..because funakoshi was fake sick and weak.he did not know what is fight.shotokan shit

  • @HomesliceDrummer for example my 13 years old student who was training 4 month muay thai in karate tournament smashed 16 years old black belt who was doing shotokan 6 years..do you know why?because fake sparring shotokan people does not know how to handle pain.they do not even know they need aerobic, unaerobic condition, because they never spar hard.few low kicks knees elbows any shototkan people would die.

  • @Freestyleartclub

I could care less about your 13 yr old student being an "example". Look at my example of one of the greatest and most skilled PROFESSIONAL MMA stand up fighters in Lyoto Machida who is solid proof that a GOOD fighter using Shotokan technique can compete and be a world champion at the very highest level of competition.

I really just can't believe that you are so in love with Muay Thai that you fail to give recognition where its due. You're just being ignorant and stupid.

  • not tru give karate guy takedown defense and ground skill then the karate guy owns BJJ hence machida!

  • no but grappling isnt his main style at all. he is clearly a striker, he simply is skilled at grappling to avoid it and use his karate and striking.

  • Yes but without grappling he would be nothing.

  • lol yea but thats with everyone in MMA am i right? i mean a boxer goes into MMA NO takedown defense against a jiu jitsu guy or wrestler, hes goin down right? the point is machida proves that adding karate to MMA mixture is useful just like muay thai or kickboxing

  • excellent point, I agree 100%

  • i think ppl are just to afraid to accept karate as an incoming style in the MMA. ppl seem so desperate as to prove that his style isnt karate. lol and once ppl start to accept him for being karate, lol there gonna say that no one else in karate can be like him and its only his style of karate that is good. haha

  • A red herring.

  • go Machida brothers!

  • NIce. Thanks
