This song contains all the emotions in true grief. Loss, sadness,pain, anger and rage for being the one left behind! And a philosphical yearning for some answers to it all. I've lost more relatives, friends and loved ones than I care to remember and this song still makes me cry.

I'm not gay, but I have always loved the Communards' incredible music. Listening to it now, it sounds just as comfortable as it did when I bought the album in 1987. I don't really hear most of the lyrics, just the music and two or three of the big lines, but that's true with a lot of music for me.

Time goes by, but the pain carries on..
If you can't listen to this track and cry for someone you have lost, you ain't human.
Life goes on, we all know that, but losing someone bloody hurts, it makes no difference how and why they left you.
Rest in peace, Mum and Daniel - I will love you forever.

I really really dislike the vocals in this but this song contains a real message and story.
Sorry to all those who have lost a friend. I have lost one to a car accident and another to suicide and, quite frankly, it shouldn't be something that we have to go through but unfortunately that is the way the world works.
Anyone who has lost a loved one or a friend (same thing really?), keep thinking of the good times and perhaps we will get to see them again someday.

Just come from a friends house.worked with him for over twenty years in the fire service.He has bowel cancer.I wanted to hug him and never let him go .Never leave it too late to tell someone you love them .Straight guys can love other Guys also.

I just thought that for someone so vociferous about what we should be standing up for that Michael Stipe dodged the question for so long ,basically until he'd achieved what he wanted and more.
Jimmy Somerville in my view must have made it easier in certain ways for gay people, at that time.
If only by breaching the subject.
In my opinion a person has no obligation to even discuss their sexual orientation and I hate the'outing' principal.
I just think support could have been given.
