If it werent the vocals, this could easily have been mistaken for Bing Crosby's version. Oh my holy living fuck. Thats my only response. Oh my holy living fuck.
Can't really compare what Vince does to what these guys do. For one thing, Vince has always operate under a Catch-22. He works in NYC, where no one can afford time or space to rehearse. So most of his bands play it "cold" - no time for routines or any but the most basic showmanship. At the same time, once you leave NY, there's almost nowhere you could get the audience together for this music - until you hit Europe.
What can I say? Fantastic! I own the Paul Whiteman 78 of this tune and can tell you, this performance is a WOW! The chorus line looks just like the girls in the King of Jazz talkie ! What a sweet added surprise they are! Just delightful!! So well done! So vintage! If Paul Whiteman were still alive, wouldnt he be flattered by this? He must be smiling in his grave!
Not that impressed, too showy, the cornet is not the least like BIX, not the same bell tones or fingering or old big type cornet to be authentic. If I closed my eyes it would not sound like Paul Whiteman with Bing Crosby and BIX. Too many people involved in this project to make it viable anyway. I give it an A for effort, but a C for go. Just does not turn my crank like ANDY SCHUMM plays cornet or VINCE GIORDANO plays BASS SAX ot tuba. Sorry. Jim VanDrisse
@hander1952 Ondrej Havelka has his own band now called Ondrej Havelka and the Melody Makers. Thye have a website and a number of music videos and videos of live performances here on You-tube.
Jazzgirl this band is great. First rate musicans, and styalisticaly authentic. If you aren't aready familiar with them check out the West End Jazz Band from Chicago. A six piece band playing music frm the same era that I think will pleasently suprise you. Regards.

You must be very easy to entertain, maybe you mean the show, you certainly do not mean the music level displayed, Do you? The best ever? I don't get it, unless you are connected with the orchestra and want to self promote it.
PART 1: Oah, that's crazy what you're saying. Probably you are not a musician so you can not understand the value of a similar operation...Andy Schumm is great but I know he would be ENTHUASIAST watching this video. The trumpetter playing in this movie, Mr. Pavel Klikar, is the creator of all you're watching and he is , without any dubt, a GENIUS. a Pure Genius.
Vince Giordano is the most important authority in the hot jazz field we have today - a collector, musician, first over all.
Vince Giordano is the most important authority in the hot jazz field we have today - a collector, musician, first over all. But his band is clearly not so authentic as this one (and the Bratislava Hot Serenaders indeed) - I mean from an "artistic" point of view.. The music is , obviously, excellent, the best in the world.
PART 3: I love the 20's and '30s stuff over all, over Giordano, Havelka, Klikar - for me noone today could play as , I dont' know, the Goofus Five could play in 1926. But everyday we must try to convey to perfection. In our music all is important , from the music to the tuxedo and the antique instruments used.
The Artist !!

Only Bix plays like Bix, only Paul Whiteman's band plays like Whiteman, only The Rhythm Boys sing like The Rhythm Boys... so what?
There are less than five orchestras in the world playing this kind of music today for a live audience. Instead to appreciate, you condamn it.
You're a genius...

Excellent, this is the Vince Giordano band in Europe!
Do they have a homepage? Have to go to Prague and listen to them!

I have an lp by the West End Jazz Band on the Stomp Off label. They are very good too I agree. They have a real 1920's sound.

An amazing performance! If you close your eyes during the first seconds of the opening vocal, you'd swear it it was the Whiteman record.

OPSO and the Bratislava Hot Serenaders are the best 1920's bands I have heard today. They blow away all the 1920's style bands playing in the U.S.

Opso, Havelka y los Bratislava hot Serenaders hoy por hoy hacen el mejor jazz.
¡Y son todas bandas retro!
Opso, Havelka and the Bratislava hot Serenaders are the best jazz bands nowadays.
And all of them retro bands.
