I take it you lost vs Dural :-) Good job otherwise though. Thanks for the post. The original arcade VF ruled! Spent countless hours and quarters on it. Cool to watch it again this many years later.
I first learned about this game when I was in 7th grade, and I immediately fell in love. At the time MKII and Street Fighter were all the rage and MKIII had just come out. None of those really appealed to me. I loved Virtua Fighter because of the fact you could move about in 3D. It was far more realistic, and to me, far superior. This was also the very first game I ever played with my ex. She was pretty good at it!
What exactly were the differences between this and the 10th anniversary edition included in Virtua Fighter 4 Evolution? I know they have the same movesets as the new games, but other than that they look the same.
@ChristlicherKrieger3 Even if they tried to go with the retro-1993 look, VF 10th Anniversary's graphics are still superior to the original (higher polygon count, anti-aliasing, 60 FPS Vs. 30 FPS in the original VF).
wow, first discovered and played this at HEATHROW INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT, LONDON on my way to visit Nigeria in 1993. Lost lots of money on it but was cool to see a true 3D fighting. Was hooked on Street Fighter 2 at the time.
Nice seeing the Model 1 hardware. Always been fascinated by Sega Amusement Machines departments 2 and 3.
Anyone know if MAME emulates the Sega MODEL platforms?
I loved Akira really, but I wondered always why he is the last to face? I mean he didn't even was able to do that 'turn-around kick' which I found pretty strong always..
but maybe its just him being the one that could be really strong with a certain amount of skill.. I was too young back then to try it actually... but I really would like to play taht game or the 2nd again...
@Thesims988 If you never played this and new to the series yes but this and the other VF classic are 100% better to me but I know how ppl like you nowadays gamers go for graphics before gameplay kinda sad and pathetic.
this would have been stellar with the svp chip.yes it is on 32x but could have easely been done on saturn arcade perfect.VF remix is that any good,it looks better then this.32x was pretty much unnecessary.SVP usage would have been more impressive.
fuck i loved walking by the arcade when i was ages 4-12 at my old mall that closed down but this music used to blast out the arcade was amazing growing up to that
what's funny is that the arcade game's bezel depicts him as an arabian guy. of course, he was scrapped from the game, but made his real debut in Fighter's Megamix on the Saturn
at start of round just hold down back, cpu mostly always starts the round with a straight kick which give you a free throw. Characters with powerful throws like jeffrey and wolf could pwn the cpu easily abusing this.
mame emulates this game but it still has bugs but where the is a will theres a way because I have taken it upon myself to try and finish making model 1 emulation 100% accurate and I think I have made some progress
When i first saw this i was in shock, everything before was 2D, im 28. Kids today are so spoilt lol they will never have that amazement feeling with 3D. To them PS3 is normal and expected.
indeed. Kids always make fun of me because i say NES was the best system ever, ect. I grew up on 8bit awesomeness, and that will always be the top to me heh.
Agreed. The consoles of today may have the graphics but they owe everything to the NES, the console that saved the video game industry.
That's why games such as GTA and Halo will never be as great as the classics of the past like Super Mario Bros, Zelda 1, Sonic 1, Pacman, Robotron 2084, and other hard 8-bit games that are bound to kick your butt (I could go on and on).
100% agreed. Infact there are no other games that are harder pound for pound then NES games, nothing in todays market even compares. Remember the days of "you either play the game the whole way through without dying or you restart"? Remember when there was no auto saving and you had to actually have SKILL to beat a game, rather then just alot of free time to get to save points? Man, when i played dragon warrior series, and i could save my game...that blew my freaking mind at the time lol.
totally agreed. new systems mostly suck. the older ones all the way back to atari and even before had games that were actually fun (unlike halo or call of duty where you run around and kill things until you get to the next cutscene. nes snes genesis n64 forever
i'm aroun d at the age of teens and unlike the other kids or teens, i grew up with my uncle's NES, genesis, saturn (only game we had on it was Virtua Fighter2 and NiGHTS) and i think the older consoles r better then the newer ones and my PS3, its called "my Blu-Ray" player and my Wii is my "retro gaming station"
the first game i ever played was cruisin' usa on the n64 at a friends house. i fell in love with video games and the same people gave me a snes so i grew up on a lot of really great snes games
I was too young to see this when it first came out. But jeez it must have been amazing in 92 the speed and resolution. Woa and ridge racer in 93 amazing times.
Be nice if sega distrubuted an official emulator for its loyal fans as its only been 17 years, I doubt many people are still pushing coins into this game.
Hopefully future desktop pc's will have even more scalability with many more add in cards so we can once again run games on tech 5 years ahead of the consoles in your living room!
The Ridge Racer emulator is good. I dont know if someone has made a good Sega Model 1 emulator yet. Ridge Racer looked amazing at the time when it came out. Sega Rally looked impressive too.
Arcades today are PC's in a box so emulating them shouldnt be too hard. People soon have PC's more powerful at home.
Home PC's are alreday faster even in 2005 SEGAs Lindbergh machine when released was surpassed in the graphics department with games running twice as fast. And SEGAs EUROPA-R 2008 hardware was based on 2006 desktop pc. Theres a pc chip coming called hyrda which allowcates workloads between 2-4 graphics cards allowing games to run 2-4 times as fast so you may be able to build a pc next year which is over 16X more capable in the graphics departmnet than the latest arcade.
Well yes, new arcade machines are Just PC's in boxes. Ironic how things have turned around. It used to be PC's trying to run like Arcade machines in the 90's which led to 3D graphics cards.
It was inevitable though as the home market is where the money and therefore research is. The high end 3D arcades were possible based on hardware used principally for flight simulators and it was only a matter of time until that market didn't need technology as far advanced.
I take it you lost vs Dural :-) Good job otherwise though. Thanks for the post. The original arcade VF ruled! Spent countless hours and quarters on it. Cool to watch it again this many years later.

UndercoverPyramid55 2 months ago
@UndercoverPyramid55 Yes it was, back in 1994 and 1995, remarkably in Japan. I think tiers are very balanced in this game.

Why is the Dural fight labeled as a "Bonus Stage"?
MrWii000 7 months ago
@MrWii000 because it counts as winning the game, regardless of the dural fight outcome.
