  • The reason why this scene is so damn sad (and yes, I admit it. I cried too, I even cry now little bit) is because Dr Cocks is this really strong person, who always has more strength then any other characters in this show. And thats why it is so sad to see him go like that, I mean imagine it, if that kind of a guy cries, imagine how would you feel as a weaker guy. Whoa

  • I think the saddest scene is in My ABC's, at the end when the guy with cancer dies and his wife and kid are saying good bye. And this one. Dr. Cox is my favorite character. :3

  • what season is this?

  • @NoobTheShow24 SE7EP7

  • i think what got me teary is the way carla looked at cox when he flipped out..

    how to save a life?.....

  • :( that episode was sooo sad

  • First time I watched it, I cried my as* off so bad, I can't force myself to watch it even if I know it's a genius scene..! :S

  • Whenever you hear that one song by The Fray start, you know something sad is about to go down.

  • that door he closes used to open the other way, the episode where cox says you've got to wake up sweety, your going to be late for school to jd :s, sad scene anyway

  • saddest scene to me is when turk and JD spend all night with that black guy who had cancer and was going to die that night and they shared the night together and he said he was tired and they left and the next morning was gone :'(

  • @CrazyBoingPoop not the saddest but for me too the scene with that old black guy is pretty sad :(

  • NO I DONT WANT TO MEET BUETIFUL RUSSIUN WOMEN,JACKASS.

  • I love watching Carla in this in the scene from 1:56-2:30. She acts out her role so beautifully.

  • gave me chills..............

  • that song is so damn depressing

  • The song itselfs tones the whole scene

  • I wish there was a 'love' button. My favourite scene! :')

  • i dont see where he cries

  • @ForbittenLove1 At 3:10 he's teary eyed

  • Did McGinley win anything for this? If not, he should have.

  • @streetswell It's a damn shame, but I don't think he ever won an emmy while on Scrubs.

  • i cant believe how hard it would to be a doctor and lose someone and you think its your own fault and just like JD's line:''the second you start blaming yourself for someone else death''

  • I think this scene was a good showing of John C's diversity in character. Bravo to Bill Lawrence and the writers for bringing that out.

  • Why I love Scrubs, it's not just comedy, it's so real.

  • @3dxbox My future brother-in-law is in med school and he says this show is actually pretty much how a hospital is, or at least a lot closer than that Greys Anatomy crap

  • crying so much D:

Love this scene, I love it when Perry shows true emotion. X-(

  • whats the song called?

  • @jonazz1995 "How To Save A Life" by The Fray

  • This episode makes me cry every time I see it. Sad coming from an adult male, but I can't deny it. :( I just watched it on netflix.

  • this always and i mean always makes me cry.

  • what the fuck is going on down below me? also :(

  • What's always irritated me about this is that Jill was a match with all 3 people? And when they were testing the blood to see if they were a match why didn't they pick up on the rabbies?

  • @retteretter

I'm no medicine-man, so I don't no the answers, but do keep in mind that this is based on a real-life case.

  • @retteretter A rabies test is not on a standard panel. It's never routinely tested because it's an additional cost and like they say in the clip there are fewer than 10 cases per year. And it's not at all uncommon for an organ donor to have organs go to 10+ people or more.

  • @SuperMuff2 Yeah i'm not saying that 10+ people can't use her organs, but the fact that all the people currently waiting in the ward all being matches, when not even family are a match sometimes, is pretty extraordinary.

  • i made a comment about this part on a vid called Dr Cox - Season Two(Best Moments) a few moments ago, this is wierd

  • can u tell me what episode this is i want 2 watch the whole thing.

  • @kitecc My Lunch

  • @kitecc it's called 'My Lunch'

  • you know things are bad when dr.cox cries

  • Thumbs up if you listened The Fray before Scrubs

  • i saw this yesterday it was sad

  • the music is fantasic, the acting is awesome, the intensity of the scene, even the camera movement, makes this scene so powerfull. you trully feel for dr.cox. i loved it at the end when he loses it and at that moment the music gets louder and the whole scene exlodes with emotion. this show has alot to affer.

  • Still, both 'My Lunch' and 'My Screw-Up' were two of the best episodes throughout the series in which Cox let out his emotions. Just shows how much of an amazing actor John McGinley is really.

  • This one isnt my lunch. Its "my screw up" my lunch is when dr. cox's friend dies

  • @GCfan95 Actually, this is from "My Lunch." "My Screw-Up" is the one where Cox's friend dies.

  • SO SAD! I've never even seen this show, but I cried because at the end there, he had to leave because he was blaming himself for the deaths. really sad

  • @LafitoutProductions he didnt have to leave, he felt the deaths were his fault so he chose to leave. He did come back but everyone had to visit him to talk him out of his depression

  • The mighty cox had to fall one day.

but shit 3 people in one day. thats just plain unlucky

  • I miss this show. The show in general had some hilarious moments, but they pulled off some great shows like this one where they can go from funny as hell to heart-wrenching and make you cry and truly make you feel for the characters. This one, when Ben died, when Laverne died, the season 8 finale. I know some people hate this show, and there were some just bad moments here and there, but when it was good, it was DAMN good.

  • this scene is so sad because this is the side of Perry that nobody ever expected to see he's one of my favorite characters I cry everytime I see this scene I could never be a doctor I wouldn't be able to deal with it it's too painful

  • you dont realise because its a comedy but they can act so well

  • @basmalord3252 Actually, a lot of times, comedy acting is way harder than dramatic acting. Any mediocre actor with some training can pull off acting sad or serious, but it takes major talent to deliver lines in a way that's funny on screen. Therefore, a lot of times, actors that are really good at comedy are really good at drama too, because the best dramatic scenes need the pitch-perfect emoting and line delivery that's always needed for comedy. (Not many comedic actors *like* drama, though)

  • This scene wasn't close to as sad as when JD and Turk were talking that old black guy through him dying! Or when Brandon Fraziers character died

  • @kingshigh667 true

  • I hate this scene. I never cry to anything, but this really made me tear T___T It's just so sad :C

  • i'm going to start my nursing course next year, and watching this terrifies and saddens me, because i'll have to deal with it all the time..but it encourages me to do my best

  • everytime i watch scrubs i learn something new about life. and then i get sad.

  • lol funniest scene ever

  • @imover18soshowittome how could you even suggest this is funny?

  • @sxcrosi

How can you not laugh about this? It's a comedy for Christ's sake. I just watched this scene again, now my stomach hurts. Thanks for the remnder, haha.

  • @imover18soshowittome it's probably one of the sadder scenes in Scrubs, despite it being a comedy. If you really did laugh at this, you must be heartless

  • @sxcrosi

If you don't know when to take someone seriously (and when not), I guess you aren't really that 'grown up' after all.

  • @imover18soshowittome more grown up than you'll ever be

  • When Scrubs is sad it's REAAALLLLY sad

  • @person405 Especially when you're high. The only show that could rival this show is Spongebob. I almost cried when Gary left Spongebob for Patrick in one episode when I was pretty baked.

  • @GoldeneyePwner serious?

  • @person405 No, but that seriously happened to one of my friends. I was with him and it was funny to watch.

  • @GoldeneyePwner Well, you put it that way then yeah, that would put some stitches in my side too.

  • This is one of the saddest episodes of all the Scrubs episodes.

    Worst if when Ben dies.

    But still.... :'(

  • 2:13-2:17 awww!!! But I love this show so much!!! It's my life. Which is kinda sad but...

  • As much as I love scrubs... I hate that they sped up the music, it makes it feel rushed, it would have been so much better if it was played at normal speed.

  • Brilliant scene, superb acting by everyone in the scene, even the extras

  • sad scene, but i dont believe its the saddest scene on scrubs, i think its only just beaten by bens funeral tbh

  • Omg i cried at the end!! :'( love the episode though

  • You can see Dr. cox needs JD sometimes.

  • witch episode?

  • Thank you soooo much for posting this! i only saw this episode last night and omg it moved me. What an amazing episode this is. i love scrubs!

  • Ouch, my ears hurt from the blaring volume.

  • Problem with these scenes is that the dead are always breathing :/

  • @DarthYoungling I know right, they should either use real cadavers or kill the actors.

  • @MissSaammmyy She didn't comfort him because as you see she got shocked by his reaction. Maybe comfort afterwards but not while or exactly after he smashed the equipment.

  • I agree. That is the saddest episode from scrubs. Makes me cry everytime the last patient dies and Perry looses it. Every time I see a good scene from Scrubs I cut it out and save it. I too named this episode the saddest.

  • this is such a great episode it shows cox's humanity through sadness brilliant show

  • yeah im a guy, but this whole scene, the storyline, the acting, the music, the whole feel of the scene just tugged at my heart strings.

  • @thepatternsrepeat Does it matter if you are a boy or a girl everyone has right to cry!

  • Best scrubs scene ever. I remember getting shivers down my spine the first time I watched this.

  • you know what else ruined it? The fact that his name is Dr. Cox. lol Cocks

  • What a moment. Brilliantly done...

  • music ruined and impeded the effect

  • I Love It <3 It Made Me Cry; I Wish Carla Would've Gone And Comforted Dr Cox When The Patient Died But This Was An Incredible Moment .

  • This was by far my favourate scrubs episode ever, very emotional

  • these episodes were really good.. but there was literally no jokes for like 2 or 3 episodes during the doctor cox meltdown.. it was a mega bummer

  • the guy who plays dr cox is a great actor, hes been in a lot of things and is great no matter what role hes playing

  • Wat epi is dis

  • @Heelvervelend08

    It's Season 5 Episode 20 - My Lunch

  • This is why I love Scrubs, they mix humor and sorrow in a perfect blend!

  • :(s

  • this is why scrubs was such a good show. it could go from being extremely silly to extremely serious. the best shows ever always seem to be able to combine comedy and drama perfectly.

  • this was the first full episode of scrubs I ever watched, I remember as soon as I heard the line 'he could have waited another month for a kidney' I just felt all the grief and frustration, no tv show ever did shit like this to me!

  • Carla adds so much to this scene. Her expressions and reactions add perfectly to what's going on even though she has no lines. Not to take away from Cox and JD... everyone involved in this pulled off some brilliant acting.

  • @rml8423 DUCK SLAP NEED COKE IN THE GRASS

  • @rml8423

I agree she makes this scene. Looks like a total pro.

  • @rml8423 I don't think Judy Reyes was even acting in that scene was she? I think they were genuine emotions, unreal!!

  • @TheRidllerXXThree I agree. Everyone involved in this, including the writers, directors, etc., deserves SOME kind of award.

  • @rml8423 i completely agree her facial expression display the seriousness of the scene

  • Wrong.

    1) JD future sequence

    2) Ben's Funeral

    3) This

  • @znad23 good call. Only one i remembered was Ben's Funeral.

  • the saddest scene in scrubs are actually Ben's funeral this is the second saddest

  • greatest show ever. seasons 1-8 are amazing. season 9 is not very good.

  • Oh my god I cried, thts soo sad :[

  • Working in such an intense field, so important to take time off...burnout I'd imagine is so high in a hospital setting. I work in social work and it can occur there too

  • no his name is Dr.cox Not Dr.cocks his real name is John C Mcginley

  • It's scenes like this that make you realise just how awsome scrubs is. Best show ever.

  • i watch this clip almost every day =[

  • Re-watching this after seeing the series "finale" makes it that much more of a special moment between the two. In fact, the same can be said about all the JD/Cox moments.

  • Well, I cried. :(

  • what season is this

  • scrubs is the only show on tv i've cried watching.

im a dude, and i like never cry, this show gets to me tho..

  • Wow is that Denise Mahoney at 0:31?

  • Looks like it

  • yes he did cry this was so sad

  • he doesnt cry

  • the end to season 8 was sad, when JD was leavin

  • the only scenes sadder then this where the funeral and season 8 "my finale"

  • The Funeral was sadder but this is way up there aswell.

  • god i got goosebumps watching this! lol

  • what season and what episode?

  • s5e20ish

  • This was sad but not near as sad as when dr. cox loses him friend and thinks he is at his son's birthday party and notthe funeral.

  • its his brother:P

  • This scene is pretty sad but....IMO I think the Fresh Prince of Bel Air episode where Will's father left him was the saddest scene I've seen....but still this is pretty sad.

  • i agree :D

    that was the saddest!!!

  • i agree this is one of the saddest scenes in history, but i like the episode(s) with dr cox's brother, and they all end up at the funeral, i cried there myself :O

  • Nice one, that scene in Fresh Prince is indeed one of the saddest scenes on television. If I remember correctly, also controversial, because no kid ever cried on tv or something.

This is a sad scene too though, you gotta hand it. The guy who plays Dr. Cox is a great actor.

  • it is a really sad scene but it made cox stronger

  • so sad

I love learning about medicine, I know it's really stupid but I am only 12 and i know so much about anatomy and medicine tho i know I would never make it as a doctor because i am horrible at dealing with death. I dunno but it's hard to decide if i should bother :(

    great video by the way

  • Good thing there are 12 year olds that know "so much about anatomy and medicine." I've been looking for a second opinion from a qualified person, maybe you could help. MAYBE.

  • great that realy raises my self esteam

-.- no one believes in me...

  • this scene and the episode that follows after are really sad. and great to watch

  • have to say this bit makes me cry... plus the episode where Laverne dies :'(

  • What is this salty liquid discharge leaking from my eyes??!!

  • I worked as an EMT and this scene is as close to real to life as it can get. Amazingly acted by John. Kudos on the writing and editing as well. The Fray doesn't hurt either.

    makes me cry as well.

  • i reckon the saddest scene was when jordan's brother died, i was like :O

  • i love scrubs so much but this scene made me depressed as hell

  • i am...the todd!

    uurrrgghh

  • Mate this scene sums up why scrubs is one of the best Shows ever to grace television, and if u got a problem wiv that I'll knock ur fuckin head in!

  • first time i ever saw this scene, i have to admit i did cry

  • Everytime I watch Scrubs I realize how hard the work of doctors is >_>

  • @MyBooh15

Same here. People are always bitching about how well paid Doctors are, but when you think about the ridiculously hard work they have to do, and the way they have to deal with life and death situations every single day... and they still only get paid a fraction of a fraction of what sport stars do. Ridiculous.

  • @BreakRightIntoHeaven I agree with you, people get payed to toss a ball around or hit a puck or catch a ball for millions. When there are people that only get paid a fraction for actually doing something that will matter in the long run.

  • @BreakRightIntoHeaven I remember being told in my job that no matter how bad it gets "remember, no one is going to die" - one of the reasons I could never become a doctor - you can't exactly use that line when you are faced with life and death every day!

  • @BreakRightIntoHeaven Not to mention you need to be fucking brilliantly intelligent lol.

  • @futuramaman07

You would think so, but JD and Turk seem to contradict that xD

  • @BreakRightIntoHeaven Kinda true, but not 40 000 ppl go watch doctor do operation. Yes Doctor are unpaid, but you cant compare them to pro in sports. Doctors cant sell publicity and stuffs. but yeah, I hear you

  • @BreakRightIntoHeaven it is. What even more ridiculous is that a lot of the time gps and dentists get a hell of a lot more than doctors like these. Even the nurses and interns in E.R.s have a lot harder jobs than dentists and gps though.

  • @BreakRightIntoHeaven not to mention that every time enough of these sports players decide they want to be paid more, they go on strike and that gap gets bigger.

  • @BreakRightIntoHeaven sports stars are overpaid. period

  • @BreakRightIntoHeaven If doctors were as well paid as sport stars, no one could afford a doctor and the health system would break down. That sport stars are overpaid does NOT mean, that doctors are underpaid. What about the fire men which actually risk their life? What about Marines and Soldiers? They are putting their life on stake too. You see...this discussion could go on and on forever, but the point is: people are bitching about the payment for doctors, because doctors app. are no luxury

  • @MyBooh15 every other episode doesnt realllllly show how hard they work though lol

  • peeps say bens funeral was sadder but this, to me, was sadder. cos he temporarily lost that bullet proof image he keept up and broke down for a while. plus, the ironic choice of song....

  • How to Save a Life isn't about actually saving a life. It's about trying as hard as you can but FAILING to save the life. kthnx

  • oh. well, i guess it aint so ironic after all! by the way, what does "kthnx" mean? i dont always understand txt language.

  • ha it just means " Ok, thanks." xD I was just being silly!

  • haha! cool.

  • Yeah Ben's funeral is sadder. And about saddest moments of TV, well disney owns those :P For example, ever heard of Bambi?

  • I say the Fox and the Hound is way more sadder then Bambi, atleast, the car ride scene with the Fox and the Old Lady...

But.. Damn, you're right, Disney owns that. Now that I think about it.

  • Agree with 7pulford, Ben Sullivan's funeral is the saddest Scrubs scene.

  • Thank you for this amazing video. Scrubs is my fav programme ever. I love the funny and sad. Much kudos. Love from London, UK

  • i tuned into scrubs for the first time, and its funny, i saw this scene and instantly started crying so hard i couldn't stop. thats how i got hooked on scrubs

  • JD gets cancer? When?

  • Don't worry, He doesn't

  • best scene of scrubs
