That's either a very fat clown fish or a very small anemone. Funny to watch the clownfish crashing into the anemone as it feeds it.
I am amazed all that diving and smashing the clown fish is doing doesn't hurt the anemone. Are Anemones highly resilient to damage? Do they get bruised or scared easily?
I made my undergradute thesis regarding sea anemones. and from my experience, you can slice them in HALF and still they survive. And the most from my experience is that one actually became MANY when a classmate of mine placed one of my specimens in blender! >.> 1 anemone became.... teeny hundreds...
The clowns were in the tank before I added the anemone and took to it straight away, feeding it right from the start . It was almost as though they were waiting for one to come along.
Clownfish feed the anemone that they host in return for the protection amongst its stinging tentacles. Its a symbiotic relationship. My clown is feeding mysis shrimp to the nenny. They can cost from £20 upwards.
The anemone is known in the trade as a Bubble Tip anemone. There are various colour morphs of it. In the absence of an anemone clownfish will host other corals and have even been known to host powerheads.
thanks! Yes the two oscellaris clowns i have host a seashell i bought in hawaii. I'm looking to get an anemone for them, just don't know which kind i want for them yet:)
I have! my female is mean! (i have two oscellaris clowns). Usually it doesn't hurt, but every once in a while it does. The male is docile as a lamb tho:)
That is really great .If this is a repeatable behavior you should shoot a sequence with a wide angle or move the camera back a bit to show the fish taking the mysis shrimp. I have never seen this behavior. You could research it to see if anyone else has documented it. Great video post more like it.
She's carrying pieces of mysis shrimp to the anemone. They feed the anemone in return for the anemone offering protection amongst its stinging tentacles.

Anemones are pretty hardy to impact. Its like trying to hurt a piece of leather with tentacles.
