  • I love all of your pieces!

    they're brilliant!

    all self-written?

  • @garretthegrreatt Yep, you know it. Thank you!

  • front ensemble part sounds like "angels and demons" by the cadets

  • @M3ssageT4k3n Eh, not really. But I'm flattered that you at least get a similar impression.

  • @reeldeelpeel o i was referring to the part where you go up 5 and back down lol

  • @reeldeelpeel aka at 0:40

  • @M3ssageT4k3n Oh, the ostinato. It's pretty common. Listen to the score for "The Happening".

  • hooooooooooooooooolllly shaaaat that was ahmazaflippinfantastic 10 stars :)

  • @EciruamreklaW Thanks very much!!

  • I think this tastes better than the food. :)

  • @scorpclaw Food is pretty good...

  • My high school indoor ensemble played this piece last season.

  • I wish I had bell writing parts like you lol, I love it.That with my bass writing skills would be killer

  • you inspired me....

  • @Trapmaker677 I'm glad I have!

  • This song is so cool! I love it.

    One thing though:

I've noticed that a ton of directors I've met all tend to refer music to food. Any particular reason for that? I know there's so many ways to describe food, but... It's kind of strange. Lol.

  • @BlockDuuuuude

Thanks! Food is just really good, basically.

  • @BlockDuuuuude i think its an easy thing to examine and get ideas and inspirations from something that is so easy to obtain. Thats my two-sense

  • one thing..... BASS FEATURE PELASE! I know you put one in, and the beats are fast, but so typical :( let the basses have some groovin fun :D otherwise, i liked it, interesting use of time signatures.

  • @Sophiliet

You gotta realize that this is going on 3 years old, and if I knew then what I know now, much of this would be very different.

  • Man the tenor parts were amazing

  • By far my favorite piece in your collection of original works.

  • id love to see a marching version thats easier time signature and id love to have the high school i instruct play this. great composition

  • ah man i love your work. I NEED virtual drumline but i dont have the money for it :-(

  • what program has better drumline soundsSibelius or virtual DL

  • @strikeme5,

Sibelius and VDL are two programs with completely different purposes. Sibelius is musical notation software, VDL is percussion sound sampling. This is like asking which tastes better; the macaroni or the cheese?????

  • @strikeme5,

BTW, read the comments below PLEASE.

  • Very well thought out! I'm working on a percussion ensemble myself and I was wondering which drumline program you used. I am trying to decide between Sibelius and Virtual Drumline but I don't know the pros and cons of both. Also I would very much appreciate any first hand advice you would have on composing. Thanks!

  • @redrumarimba27,

I appreciate your complements, thank you :) OK, I don't usually respond to questions about writing and sampling programs, but I have to make sure you understand something and hopefully others will read this response before asking. You can't run either Sibelius or VDL alone the way I use them together, if that makes sense. You write the music with Sibelius and VDL samples the music either as you work, or once you export an mp3 file of the music. (continue on to 'comment part 2'

  • @reeldeelpeel,

Please do not ask me to help about programs or writing anymore. I put these videos up not to demonstrate that I have knowledge of notation software, or that I know HOW to upload a video like this or anything even close. And although I want to be an educator eventually, I don't necessarily mean to educate the public. I put these videos up to express myself musically and make myself known to the public. (continue to 'comment part 3')

  • @reeldeelpeel,

Comments, compliments, and criticism about the MUSIC are appreciated, but not any for the software or anything else PLEASE.

  • you certainly play with where the beat is on this one...I would hate to play some of those mallet parts with a met, but it could certainly be done, love the use of battery at 1:10!!

  • @MatthewGmen,

This one's a little older, I didn't have as much of an idea what i was doing at the time. Thanks for noticing the tasty part at 1:10 :)

  • As with all your other pieces, this is amazing. but you like writing about food, dont you?

  • @drumer93,

    Thanks. Food is good right?

  • Your themes are strange beyond belief, but however you do it sounds amazing!

  • @CaptainYutube,

It's probably because I'm strange beyond belief myself, but thanks!

  • It's amazing music like this that makes me miss marching band, and makes me want to switch back to a music major. Bravo indeed! Nothing short of amazing.

  • @drummerguy1989,

    Switch back then!

  • ima newbie composer...and this inspires me...but all i need is a good program to work with...im gonna have my parents invest in a music program...im used to finale,so ima get finale

  • @bigmoe93,

Thanks, I'm glad it inspires you.

  • You should make an iTunes podcast.

  • @jakethepianist,

Or, you can check out my facebook fan page. There is a link to it on my profile.

  • Is this piece for sale? I'm looking for something for one of my schools to play during the winter season. (We don't march WGI, just trying to keep them playing/drumming) And I enjoy this piece and think they might as well. Good work!

  • @showb4theshow ],

Yep, I'm selling copies of it for $25. Thanks for listening! Let me know if you're interested in purchasing it.

  • fantastic! If i felt my small-school ensemble could play this, i would request a copy! keep up the great work!

  • @timbohoagie, Thanks, I will do :)

  • Have you ever thought about submitting stuff to DCI ?!?! This is brilliant!

  • You don't 'submit' things to DCI. DCI is just the arranger for the tour and competitive events, they have nothing to do with the music or show design for any corps. I would need to join the staff of a drum corps for them to play my work, and they make practically no money. And, this isn't evern a full percussion arrangement, let alone an entire drum corps arrangement. AND it's not even 6 minutes long, while drum corps shows are usually 11-12. But thanks, I am trying to get my pieces published.

  • brilliant

  • Thank you!

  • great

  • Thanks :)

  • the tenor solo at 1:00-1:05 is amazing

  • I tried to make it a battle there between the snares and tenors, I guess the snares don;t come out do well. Thanks, I'm glad you enjoy that part :)

  • Omg.

    I love this

  • Sweet, I'm glad :)

  • I want to buy a copy of this ensemble how to much to send the pdf's of the score and individual parts. Send me a message.

  • I LOVE THE TRANSITION AT :28!!!

  • tap, SHOT, buzzzzzzzz, hahaha. Thanks :)

  • yeah. and i love what you do with the mallet parts. hah. :D

i think you should add more parts to it. haha. have like 3/4 marimbas. hah

  • I'm in the middle of writing a full percussion show with 4 marimbas, 2 vibes, xylo, 4 racks, full battery, timpani, and all the auxilary to go with it. I don't really like going back and changing old stuff because some school's only have 1-2 marimbas

  • You're freakin' amazing! I loved the groove section at 3:37!

  • 3:34 not 3:37 sorry.

  • I gotcha, thanks a bunch! :)

  • wow this is amazing im on the bass line in my band and i would love to place this great work

  • Thanks! The bass parts are fun in this one, haha.

  • Awesome, I could totally see an indoor ensemble doing this with some cool narration behind it. Love the bass feature at around 3:30.

  • Thank you :)

  • i LOVE the mallets :}

battery could use a lil somethin-somthin O.o haha

  • I hear both cases all the time, so i have no idea what to believe from "youtube critics"

  • I love this song! great work Mr.Peel

btw, Mr.Peel, if you're reading this... What instrument are you marching with Cascades? Jw!

  • lol, "Mr. Peel" again. Thank you!

I'm in the pit now. I was once in the bassline, but got "cut" basically, it's hard to explain. I;m playing various mallet instruments on each movement, but the parts aren't even finished quite yet, so I'm not yet sure what exactly I'll be playing by the time all days start.

  • So i've been a fan of this piece for a long time... its my favorite of all of them... Keep up the good work. :]

  • Cool, I'm glad you like it! And thank you so much! :)

  • Is there any way i can get a recording of this, like a .mp3 so i can put it on my ipod? Thanks

  • certainly! just give me your email, or email me. my email is on my channel

  • Great Work! :)

    Is it for sale?

    LOVE to purchase.

  • Thank You!

Yes, I have been selling the score unpublished for a while. Email me or give me your email, and we can discuss this that way.

    Thank you so much! :)

  • This could be a marching show, totally

  • A small indoor show maybe.

  • Maybe, but the marching should be hard

  • The drill "should" be hard? Why do you think that is?

  • Oh, well the song is fantastic, so the marching should be slow in the fruit part and fast on the veggie part.

  • Haha, if this piece will ever be marched, which I highly doubt, I'm sure the drill will be deigned like so :)

  • how long did you spend writing this one? its one of my favorites, every time i listen to it i think of a indoor wgi show. keep up the good work

  • Surprisingly, this one only took me a couple months. I hadn't put as much effort into it as the others. I guess the ideas were already finished in my head before I wrote it.

    Thank you!

  • it sounds so good............... like a hole part from a DCI show! I think every corps from DCI would be very proud to play a part like this - it´s only amazing, I think It´s nearly perfect!

  • LOL, I was expecting more criticism from you on this piece, but whatever, I'll take compliments instead! :)

  • So is virtual drumline or Sibelius making the battery sounds? I write battery and other percussion ensemble stuff in finale, but the sound quality is no where close to how good it is here. You write amazing stuff, keep up the good work.

  • If Sibelius made the sounds, there would be no reason to purchase Virtual Drumline, would there? :)

  • Beautiful. Where do you study music or do you just have a raw gift for this..or both?

  • Well, I guess I've earned my knowledge and touch from both studying and raw talent. REALLY raw talent, lol. For the last 7-8 years, I've been fortunate to have worked with several great musicians. I have gotten inspiration from Danny Elfman, John Williams, Hans Zimmer and others from movies, which is really the only reason I watch movies. My Mom was very musically inclined, and some of my relatives are. Life in general has made me who I am, I guess.

To answer your question... both. :)

  • Spoken like a true composer! You really are great at what you do. I am also looking into a music major in composition, so it is really nice to look at other musician/composer's works, and use that to broaden ones own understanding of music.

Hope you continue to do what you do!

    Good luck!

  • wow..

    this is really good!

are you using sibelius for this?

  • Thank you!

    Yep, Sibelius it is.

  • wow!!

    how did you record this??

that's some wicked wristwork there man.

    beautiful.

  • I never recorded this, all the sounds are from Virtual Drumline.

    Thank you though. :)

  • oh i see!

  • are you a musician yourself? a band director or a music majorer? i play bassoon in high school but i also march percussion for marching season. i like percussion more, and i also originally wanted to play percussion because i have always been able to understand rhythms well. i started percussion this year and i am better than some of the full-time percussionists, yet the band director wont let me witch. its quite sad.

  • I did percussion in school band from grade 6-12. I plan to be a music major of course! I'm no band director, I'm only 19, lol.

Your director probably doesn't want you switch to only percussion because he/she needs you to play bassoon. Bassoonists are pretty rare, so to speak. So are most double-reed instrument players, and french horn players. I hope you like bassoon. But if you really want to switch to percussion, you should have the administration talk to your director.

  • definitely my favorite piece of yours. I can see this being arranged into a movement of an actual marching band show...

  • I'm glad you enjoy it! I'm actually arranging Clockwork into an 11-minute drum corps show right now, but I don't plan to finish it for a LONG time.

  • Holy crap, that would be so epic.

  • I'm hoping it is, and I can't wait to present what I come up with here! It's seriously going to take me months, if not, the majority of the next year to get to it. I can't understand how the writers for drum corps whip up such amazing stuff so quickly.

  • Yeah, nor do I. Well the best of luck to you with that man, I'm sure you'll whip up something amazing.

  • Woodwinds can suck my dick!

  • wa wa wee wa!! easy!

  • ahhaha.

    awesome music, dude

  • thanks! :)

  • I totally agree, veggies are meh.

    Fruits are way better.

  • haha. Some of the things I use for inspiration are just completely ridiculous, I'm sort of just realizing that. Oh well, it seems to be working.

  • It's clever, I like your stuff.

  • thanks, I appreciate it! Sometimes, it just gets a little too clever, if you know what I mean

  • Wow, this was amazing. I'm not usually one to enjoy percussion, but you may have changed my mind with this one.

  • Thank you, I'm glad you may enjoy it! That's certainly one of my philosophies: to get people more interested in percussion

  • Your videos are definitely getting me more interested in percussion!

  • I'm glad!

  • Oh and Snarekidjoel,

everything in this ensemble is most definitely possible. Would just take a ton of work and effort to make it sound awesome like it does in the vid.

  • Hey man don't mind the people that say all your stuff sounds the same. Every composer has their own style of writing,so Of Course they're going to sound at least a Little bit similar. But it seems you Do have a pretty diverse selection so just keep up the good work, you'll definitely go far with this.

And WGI? Shit, write for DCI,those bass runs at 3:23 were amazing, definitely DCI quality.

  • well, I don't really think it matters if its written for DCI or WGI, both are very prestigious organizations, its just that WGI is percussion only for the most part, and I don't know much about brass, although I do have one brass chorale on youtube. Thank you so much for your support! I really appreciate your positive feedback!

  • Yeah true about WGI.

And I meant that you should be a percussion writer for DCI not necesarily brass as well, although that would be pretty cool too.

But yeah,I just meant for Battery or Front Ensemble,or both ha.

Either way, keep up the good work!

  • holy shit that was sick. is there any way you can send me the sheet music? i am in the concert band and we have apercussion ensemble and id definitely want to try to get them to play this! it was sick!

  • sounds like a cool indoor drumline show

  • Dude, I realy apreciate your work, I could say that your my idol XD, but all your pieces are kind of the same... :s although good, try to make something different. Very nice though...

  • thanks, but you just have no taste for good contemporary music

  • pedrocorteral is right but its still badass good job

  • I don't know, maybe I do write all the same stuff, but many classical composers, especially the ones that are dead were said to have done the same thing. And usually people say that because they don't fully understand classical. At least I don't I don't only write for one type of ensemble, although thats hard to avoid with drum line because there can only really be 3 or 4 different instruments.

  • do you have an mp3 of this?

  • yes sir, email please?

  • u....are....my......drumline composer god....

dude u go to college to learn how to write like this

    please give me some tips.

im barely in highschool and im composing my pieces...

if u can, please lemme send one to u thats in progress so u can teach me what i can do with it!!!!

  • I'm starting college as a freshman this fall, I just got out of high school. Sure, if you want you can send me the file through email, mine is realdealpeel @ gmail . com. Thanks for your entusiasm

  • Dude what are your orchestral influences I wish i could write orchestral pieces but I cant...

    love your work

    I also make some pieces

    for my band....some rock pieces

and since I love orchestral gothic id like to get influences and I might say...

I am getting kinda inspired by your work...

    keep up the good work

  • Pretty soon my high school's fall season will start, so I'm getting out of the lazy summer mood and back into drumline and hard work. I was just looking at different videos and these ones are good. Keep up the good work, dude. I am also in the pit, and this year our fall show will be James Bond related, so I think it'll be cool. If I can, I'll put it on youtube.

  • Thanks alot! You guys should just totally follow The Cavaliers 2004 show. It would be interesting to see that on youtube if you can get it up

  • what version of sebelius do you use, like professional or educational or what?

    o and great pieces

  • just regular old Sibelius 5, thanks also.

  • Dude, you are my HERO!!!!! This fall will be my first year playing in the front ensemble for marching band; and a college one at that!! You just made me SO EXCITED to say "I AM IN THE PIT!"

  • haha thanks! I feel special now! I'm glad you are proud of being in the pit, the pit is definetly the best.

  • dude this is freaking awsome. did you use it in wgi or something?

  • thanks very much, and no, not yet. I'm waiting for a group to possibly use it though.

  • YAY! more percussion ensembles from the peelster! i like this one. lets get together this summer and write something badass.

  • yeh, but everytime I want to do that, you're always busy!!

  • it's summer. there will evetually be time. haha.

  • how much is virtual drumline and where can i find a trial version?

  • there is no trial version for virtual drumline (as far as i know). it's like $200 i think...and you need to have either sibelius or finale to integrate virtual drumline into. i personally find sibelius to be better. and to the composer: this piece is really cool but there are just some parts that seem a little on the extremely advanced side. maybe even impossible. or maybe i'm just hearing things? who knows. good job, either way.

  • thanks for answering him...

it's not that hard, at all. It's most likely just clutter. I can play all the entire snare and tenor book myself (I would never write any battery music if I couldn't play it myself) do you mean the mallet parts mostly? That and the timpani, I honestly have never "tested"

    thanks for commenting

  • This was ridiculous.

  • good ridiculous, or bad ridiculous

  • Good ridiculous.

  • thanks then! lol

  • I don't think it's a ripoff by any means, it just sounds like McIntosh's and Rarick's techniques. It's not bad to use another great composer's ideas to your advantage. Jeez, how many composers since Beethoven have written something that might sound Beethoven-esque? It doesn't mean it's unoriginal though. Anyway, it's 3:12 to 3:39 that caught my attention. Still think it's cool though. I wish i had the money for virtual drumline... the sounds are awesome.

  • Maybe some more dynamic contrast there will help, I don't know

    thanks though

I kind of meant which part of the Bluecoats show you meant, or did you mean the entire show in general

  • not bad man.... i think you should reconsider the range for the chimes, a lot of times the higher range doesn't blend well the other instruments. Possibly use crotales? And if this is going to be a "wgi" show, then you may want a bigger/louder more intense ending. Just a thought.

  • thanks for the advice

  • Somebody makes awesome music :D

  • thanks!, you have no idea how much I appreciate that!

  • sooooooo cool!

  • thanks!

  • sooooooo cool!

  • and thanks again!!

  • I love the Blecoats-esque part at about 3:24. Great stuff man. From a fellow composer to another- you've definately got talent. Are you a music major, because you definately have a great grasp on theory?

  • thanks, but what do you mean about Bluecoats? I just got out of high school, but I do want to be a music major. I actually don't really know anything about theory, I just try my best to write down what I ear in my head, as lame as that sounds

  • It sounds a lot like the bluecoats (a DCI group) from this past year. Check em out on youtube. You definately have a good ear then my friend. keep it up.

  • yeah, haha I know the Bluecoats lol

I listened to the whole show "Criminal" right? I didn't find a single part that I could have subconciously plagorized, if thats what you mean. I did see the that show before, I went to the "DCI in select Theatres" thing they do now. But if you can tell me the exact timeframe where you think it needs more originality, that would be good for me.

    thanks

  • thanks!

  • Outstanding!
