Thats bc those BM are supporting characters. No one cares about their background story bc their role is to move the story of the main character forward. Thats all. Its that way with all movies. Plus he may give a few lines to denote the SC past but rather to explain that the MC wasnt crazy to be w/ him originally. Perry isnt going to make movies w/ characters that don't cater to his main audience. If more BM were in line to see his films, the character development & roles would be different.
I don't like any of Tyler Perry's movies, maybe 'diary of a mad black woman' was ok. 'Madea goes to jail' wasn't even about Madea. He only panders to a certain audience.
Have you ever noticed how for the past few years Blair Underwood has played the misogynist asshole or that token dude in movies. Or he plays second fiddle to some white dude like in Something New. Nothing wrong with interracial relations if love is obviously there, but come on, he did the same sorta thing in Sex in The City with the weird looking red head. Its crazy how he seems to always be willing to play the sucka-busta roles. Actors, singers, and entertainers need to learn self respect.
@queenmother123 Right! I mean who did? I don't think anyone with sense was like OH POOR YOU! YOUR DADDY LEFT WHEN YOU WERE YOUNG! PLEASE CHEAT ON YOUR HUSBAND TO MAKE YOURSELF FEEL BETTER ITS OK! Please...
because i like sanna lathan i was watching it wen i see her cheat on her husband with a white man i jus turned it off and thought fuck sanna lathan but i know its a movie it jus mad me sick tho.........
You have a good point. But he didn't do that with Madea goes to Jail. If you watch it there is a evil black woman character and he doesn't give her any excuse as to why she's that way. At least not from how I see it and there were no bad black male characters in this movie which is refreshing.
This Video is well done. I don't dislike the guy, but I am definately not a fan either -- Its as simple as this -- Tyler Perry makes movies that are based on a vast ammount black womens perspectives and movies that play on a vast ammount of black womens insecurities. Thus its a given that alot of his work is going to be black women sympathic and subtle ( or not so subtle at times) black male bashing.
I think that society in general has no compassion for BM. Sadly, TP won't even entertain the same sympathy for a BM as he would for BW, mostly because he doesn't believe theres a financial gain there. There is a documentary on YT about BW who goto prison at an alarming rate. The conclusion was, the BW were sexually abused & emotionally lost child hood. However, when BM goto prison, BM are just evil and should do his time and shut up about it? Amazing...
The movie"Daddy's little girls" was sympathetic to black men. I never saw it because it's about a black man who cares for 3 or 4 little girls by himself and that was unrealistic to me.
@blissfullyme1980 My brothers have custody of all of their daughters. It's becoming a reality in the black community with more black men in court using lawyers to fight for custody.

I will probably see it, it looks like another good Tyler Perry movie but a little unrealistic.

his movies are made for and aimed at women so obviously they are gonna be more sympathetic to the woman's character.

Blair underwood in something new?
for those that have seen it is there a reason as to why he is the way he is, and why he was dissed?
zaius07 3 years ago
nope. he was just the stiff professional black man who was overbearing. no explanation to why he was that way.
