Good thing Left4Dead isn't that demanding, worked not so badly on a 7600gt either, runs like buggery on a 7300gt though in case anyone was thinking of trying it XD
I used to use an 8600 gt but I had some stuttering problems(could have been my cpu as well). I've upgraded my motherboard(Asus)and put in an Ahtlon II x4 620 and an 9800gt, no more stuttering at the highest settings.
it's not a horror game. it's not meant to be, anyways... I think they made it a zombie game because it's easier than developing a story about why so many people are evil, and why some are boss zombies.
i got 8600 gt. its good with source games if res isnt higher than 1024x768. its unsatisfactory with most of the other games though. if you want a new card to upgrade your pc. 8600 gt is a bad choice. get a 8800 the difference is BIG
his resolution is 960x600. even that the there is no 960x600 for l4d lol. i use the 1024x sumthing and it lags a bit on max settings. 1440xsumthing res and medium settings,2x AA =no lag at all
Tell you what. I have a 6000+, 3gigs of ram(DDR2), a 8600GT and a Gigabyte GA-?56S-S3. I can run everything on Very High, such as Far Cry 2, Assassin's Creed, all the games that came out the past year. But still, games that utilize the Source engine, such as L4D, Half Life 2(and its expansions) or Portal just randomly lag out for me, for a minute, half a minute. Any ideas?
Same problem here. It's kinda random, because the Source engine is quite frankly a pile of crap. You might have a random process running in the background that's sappin' up a lot of your CPU or RAM, which the Source engine is heavily dependent on.
also got the Nvidia Geforce 8600 GT and its awesome, i dont feel laggy at all on left 4 dead and got high quality on everything and left on 120+ fps whole time
UUUGH a 8600GT? If your running everything maxed (AA and filtering) these hordes are going to drop you to 20fps. Not good, not good at all. I'd recommend a 9800GT and up for this game for a completely unhindered experience
Again, the 8600GT is perfect for CRT monitor, No AA and regular resolutions. Remeber that is easy just to SAY to get a new card. Some people REALLY can't afford better GPUs
Yeah I DEFINITELY agree. I have a 9800gtx for my computer with a 1680x1050 lcd, and I can play EVERY setting maxed, 60fps (even 16x AA). I just got an 8600gt for my other computer though, with a crt and only 1280x1024 res. For $50, you can't get a better deal for CRT monitor computers.
Well, I'm not playing God here but I think that a normal guy (worldwide) with a LCD monitor barely knows what the aim of a native resolution is...if he/she doesn't know some informatic terminologies, of course xD
By the way, new games with the 8600GT doesn't look too smooth at high res.
Now I have a HD4830 and I DO play at 720p at least. I guess that LCD is gonna have to wait.
People without huge monitors or people without multi-grand computers.
I play on 800x600 or 1024x768 usually, I have two CRTs and a one-grand computer from about two years back. it looks fine and plays fine, I don't need 1280x1024.. what the hell.
I guess you didn't realize that not everybody can play games at high resolutions.
Remember that CRT monitors make low resolutions look great.
There are a LOT of people that still play at lower resolutions. Keep that in mind. It can be because they don't have LCD or big monitors or better cards, etc.
But to get back to my original point. I was pretty shocked people still played at that low resolutions. Not only you but other people who has posted as well... Cause resolution is not really that demanding if you compare to all the other nice settings you can play with ^^
Well, that's the reality. There are people who still play at low resolutions by different reasons, I don't know: money, lack of stock, lack of a good card, saving money for other things, etc etc
In my case, I just have a new card, so I can play at high resolution but my good old CRT just goes up to 1280x1204, so I play at 1280x720 with a trick :)
Well, That's my point, I was saving money for the card, So I couldn't buy a LCD or TFT (I guess those are barely available in Chile xD). So, now I have the card and It will pass a long time before I can buy one of those :(
....You.....got to be kidding. You get PAID!? O.O
We PAY to the schools and universities every month. Now the thing that people still uses CRTs gets more sense. That's why SGFVIDEOS, Robbaz, you and all gamers from sweden are high.end gamers. We pay for everything, and that "everything" is always so expensive. Well, now you know how cruel the reality is....
...I must be only known Sudamerican gameplay tester ever....xD....nah
It could be...It's the processor I think is bottlenecking the card. Also, don't think I get 100-120 FPS all the time, there'are just a few moments. Mainly I guess I played at 40-80 FPS? (with the 8600GT at that time)
I'm gonna answer again cause it wasn't published before. There are lots of people that still use CRTs. There's no menoey for LCDs or big monitors. Besides, CRTs don't have native resolution like LCDs. Which means that CRTs don't need to much AA like LCDs.
i play left 4 dead on my macbook pro 15 inch (late 2008) 8600 gt intel dual core 2.4 Ghz and it runs left 4 dead really sweet! the only problem i have is that my macbook overheats, so i got a 30 dollar cooling system and everything is fine now :)
i got a 9600 alfa dog, 3 gb ram, 680i mobo and 3.4 dual core but dosent seem to be playing games that well:S only get avg 40-45 in left 4 dead. any help?
Disable AntiAliasing, Don't use really big resolutions, Update the NVIDIA drivers always, Enable/Disable the Multi-core Optimization or something (just to check for changes) And disable V-Sync. I don't know what else.
Ideally you have cooling measures for overclocking, and some components overclock much better than others. It's worth it if the person knows what they are doing.
i have all the drivers of course. and i have a friend he also has this game and its sooooo cool i love it he plays it all the high and a good resolution for a 22 inch screen lol BTW i have a 17 inch screen if it matters.. please reply fast..
Do you know my specs? You should check it always on the video description. You'll notice that they are more or less similar to yours. I guess you can infer that you will run this game with similar results so there's no need to ask. The card is good for CRT monitors. Bacause I play this on 960x600 and it looks great. But It's playable also at 1280x720
thats great i also have a CRT monitor well i played Call of duty 4 on every thing high and with 1280X1024 Resolution and i got 25-34 FPS witch is playable so this game is like Cod 4? i mean cod 4 is it more in graphics then left 4 died i love left 4 died its sooo cool..
Make sure to disable Anti Aliasing ans Anisotropic Filters. Don't use big resolutions as well. Apart from that, I don't know what else could be the problem, RAM?, GPU Temperature? I know that the 8500GT is not as good as the 8600GT but I think you should get more FPS than you say.
PD: Get the AMD Dual Core Optimizer from the AMD site or google it, I think it's not the solution, but just in case.
First of all, You're pretty screwed in using Vista with only 1 GB of RAM. You need at least 2GB of RAM for Vista for a good performance. I don't that there's no need to have the drivers in Vista but I don't know. At least you need the latest drivers for you card NOW and install the DirectX...and get more RAM. Get the processor drivers later, just in case.
make sure you have all of your system drivers installed and not just your video and audio drivers. Chipset drivers are System critical so make sure you have the exact model and revision.
Allright, allright, that's it. Stop the shit already. The only thing I will said is that not everybody can afford big things. So the people that have a monster rig, expensive GPU and stuff will not come here and said things like "get a better card, save money, etc.." and making fun of the people who don't have that money and that stuff. I will not stand troll shit in my channel also so everybody calm down and post nicely or you will be FUCKING BLOCKED OF MY CHANNEL. Have a nice day :)
I should be getting an AMD Athlon 64 X2 @ 3.1ghz, should be enough to run this game on high, my Pentium D and 8600gt can't exactly handle the settings on high at the mo :P
Actually, anisotropic filter is not so demanding as the AntiAliasing, you can set it between Bilinear and 8x, I guess. I think I used Trilinear for the video here.
By the way 75-200$ is more realistic and will keep you on the cutting edge of gaming.
The 9600gt will play any game out now. It is only 75-85$ It can play crysis just fine as long as you don't crank the resolution too high. (and by too high I mean much above 1280 x 800, around 720p)
You probably get the sound fx already but I think I got from findsounds(dot)com, searching "heartbeat" or something similiar. I hope it works and sorry for the delay. (The zombie scream sound is from the game)
Maxed and at a smooth fps huh? Good to know. I've already got it on xbox, and wanting to get for PC to enjoy all the moding and custom maps going on, but was worried my PC might not be quite up to it. Seems like it'll be fine after all. Looks identical to the xbox graphics.
Oh, my PC is perfectly fine, I just wasn't sure. The xbox only cost me £40 new since I share it (and the cost) with two brothers. Only had to £10 for my share of the game. With or without the split cost, good value in my opinion. Considering how much an equally powerful PC capable of running the game at full framerate would cost. PC upgrade prices are painful, but some games are worth it.
Identical? You understand that the XBOX 360doesn't max it out? Only the PC version can. And, custom maps? =P they aren't in l4d format, so the "custom maps" are basically survive as long as you can and want to, on de_dust. -.- But, yeah the PC version is great with its console commands.
I said looks identical. I've been playing the 360 version loads recently, and I can honestly say I can't see the difference. If it wasn't for the obvious twitchy aiming style of the mouse, I wouldn't be able to say what platform that was being played on.
I like the character voice commands in the PC version. Its fun to be able to say stuff in character and makes me wonder why its not properly in the 360 game. Though I miss my Live friends list. No one on PC ever has a mic. Need to find a group.
1. The mouse isn't twitchy, its just accurate, im sorry you like pushing a stick in one direction to look.
2. The PC version can turn on AA.
3. The XBOX controller cannot do the voice commands, since every button is used.
4. The PC version can do console commands, allowing you to fly anywhere, and make a 300 zombie horde. In which case, zombies literally flood out of windows if you are on the street and you set off the horde.
Er, yeah, those are some of the reasons why I said I was getting it for PC too. And I didn't mean twitchy as inaccurate, just describing how it moves. Nothing wrong with analogue sticks either though (cept PS2 sticks, those are horid). Valve did a very good job of getting the aiming right.
Theres nothing about the controller stopping the voice commands though. Ive thought of a plenty easy method. I think Valve might have dismissed it since every xbox comes with a mic, but I think its a shame.
Good thing Left4Dead isn't that demanding, worked not so badly on a 7600gt either, runs like buggery on a 7300gt though in case anyone was thinking of trying it XD

CAPCOMMASTER 3 years ago
thats great i also have a CRT monitor well i played Call of duty 4 on every thing high and with 1280X1024 Resolution and i got 25-34 FPS witch is playable so this game is like Cod 4? i mean cod 4 is it more in graphics then left 4 died i love left 4 died its sooo cool..

what the fuck
i have the nvidia geforce 8500gt
i have the same processor
i have all the same shit except the ram
its 1gb ddr2 with vista
AND I GET LIKE 10 to 20 FPS wtf?
danielmm88 3 years ago
Make sure to disable Anti Aliasing ans Anisotropic Filters. Don't use big resolutions as well. Apart from that, I don't know what else could be the problem, RAM?, GPU Temperature? I know that the 8500GT is not as good as the 8600GT but I think you should get more FPS than you say.
PD: Get the AMD Dual Core Optimizer from the AMD site or google it, I think it's not the solution, but just in case.
CAPCOMMASTER 3 years ago
yeah anti alliasing is off and the filters too
vsync is off too and running it on 800x600 on a widescreen monitor lol
oh i have 256mb vram and yeah il try to get the optimizer
thanks
danielmm88 3 years ago
...weird..
What about the video card drivers and directx version? Always get the latest
NVIDIA Drivers 181.22
DirectX 9 or 10 according of th OS
CAPCOMMASTER 3 years ago
well il try them but il need to see if they work with vista and windows 7
oh btw i installed the dual core optimizer but there isnt anything in the start menu
danielmm88 3 years ago
Ah...about that, the Optimizer is not an application. Just install it and that's it. It's like DirectX and Drivers, it works by itself, don't worry
CAPCOMMASTER 3 years ago
oh btw i dont have processor drivers installed
if there are any let me know
danielmm88 3 years ago
First of all, You're pretty screwed in using Vista with only 1 GB of RAM. You need at least 2GB of RAM for Vista for a good performance. I don't that there's no need to have the drivers in Vista but I don't know. At least you need the latest drivers for you card NOW and install the DirectX...and get more RAM. Get the processor drivers later, just in case.

my 8600gts lags like a mother bitch
even on the lowest settings.
I am not sure if it is my pentium d820 or one of the new updates that is killing my performance.
Whenever there are even a few zombies on screen my fps is down around 20.
and when the horde comes around im lucking if I stay above 19 fps.
if there is no one around I get like 60-80 fps
Iwillkillyou35 3 years ago
make sure you have all of your system drivers installed and not just your video and audio drivers. Chipset drivers are System critical so make sure you have the exact model and revision.
ganymedeIV4 3 years ago
pentium d's arent very good daul core processors i recommend going with a allendale 2.2ghz, a wolfdale 2.5ghz
papamurk 3 years ago
I have the 8600GTS and the fps is around 80-100.
But i do have a quad@3.2 and 8Gigs RAM tho.
majsbullen 3 years ago
good to know. I plan to get the e5300 or something.

ngsjors 3 years ago
i got nvidia geforce 8600 GT too and a 2 ghz duo core proccesor with 2 GB ram and 181 gb free space so i have a pc with 4 ghz O_O
ngsjors 3 years ago
.....I didn't get that (???)
CAPCOMMASTER 3 years ago
me neither, lol.
i just bought a ddr3 256 mb 8600gt card... im so glad i will run this and other games :D
pascual92 3 years ago
Allright, allright, that's it. Stop the shit already. The only thing I will said is that not everybody can afford big things. So the people that have a monster rig, expensive GPU and stuff will not come here and said things like "get a better card, save money, etc.." and making fun of the people who don't have that money and that stuff. I will not stand troll shit in my channel also so everybody calm down and post nicely or you will be FUCKING BLOCKED OF MY CHANNEL. Have a nice day :)
CAPCOMMASTER 3 years ago
Hey dude nice setup :)
I should be getting an AMD Athlon 64 X2 @ 3.1ghz, should be enough to run this game on high, my Pentium D and 8600gt can't exactly handle the settings on high at the mo :P

anisotropic filter x16?
felipecci 3 years ago
what?...hell no :P
there's no big difference thanks to my monitor :)
CAPCOMMASTER 3 years ago
So what you use? Bilinear , trilinear?
felipecci 3 years ago
Actually, anisotropic filter is not so demanding as the AntiAliasing, you can set it between Bilinear and 8x, I guess. I think I used Trilinear for the video here.

the only 800$ graphics cards are not for gaming. they are for applications like rendering and work with openGL.
they are really bad for gaming compared to their much cheaper counterparts.
there are 500-550 graphics cards but they are overkill for everyone but the crazy enthusiasts.
Iwillkillyou35 3 years ago
By the way 75-200$ is more realistic and will keep you on the cutting edge of gaming.
The 9600gt will play any game out now. It is only 75-85$ It can play crysis just fine as long as you don't crank the resolution too high. (and by too high I mean much above 1280 x 800, around 720p)

can u do multiplayer mode without xbox live please reply within 1 day !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i need 2 know

9500gt is way better then the 8600gt.
balbaldoodoo 3 years ago
not "WAY", but yeah, is better.
I mean, after all, the 9500GT was created as a replacement of the 8500GT/8600GT.
Also be conscious about the different DDR2 and DDR3 models. :)

Nice video. Thanks for sharing the test.

600-800 bucks would have gotten yourself a powerful pc.
Latteincorporation 3 years ago
Oh, my PC is perfectly fine, I just wasn't sure. The xbox only cost me £40 new since I share it (and the cost) with two brothers. Only had to £10 for my share of the game. With or without the split cost, good value in my opinion. Considering how much an equally powerful PC capable of running the game at full framerate would cost. PC upgrade prices are painful, but some games are worth it.
UnknownSquid 3 years ago
Identical? You understand that the XBOX 360doesn't max it out? Only the PC version can. And, custom maps? =P they aren't in l4d format, so the "custom maps" are basically survive as long as you can and want to, on de_dust. -.- But, yeah the PC version is great with its console commands.
00Kirby0 3 years ago
I said looks identical. I've been playing the 360 version loads recently, and I can honestly say I can't see the difference. If it wasn't for the obvious twitchy aiming style of the mouse, I wouldn't be able to say what platform that was being played on.
I like the character voice commands in the PC version. Its fun to be able to say stuff in character and makes me wonder why its not properly in the 360 game. Though I miss my Live friends list. No one on PC ever has a mic. Need to find a group.
UnknownSquid 3 years ago
00Kirby0 3 years ago
Er, yeah, those are some of the reasons why I said I was getting it for PC too. And I didn't mean twitchy as inaccurate, just describing how it moves. Nothing wrong with analogue sticks either though (cept PS2 sticks, those are horid). Valve did a very good job of getting the aiming right.
Theres nothing about the controller stopping the voice commands though. Ive thought of a plenty easy method. I think Valve might have dismissed it since every xbox comes with a mic, but I think its a shame.
