he really is an amazing player...he just needs a little more confidence and i think he can do great on Everton...possible even be among the top 5 players in the EPL. Hes def athletic and talented enough.
Hey mate, hows it going? you like football manager games right? i found this cool one online footy-manager com its very similar to the football manager game. check it out. its pretty cool actually.
lets get this sorted, people people going at each other over how good he is, i am an avid evertonian and watched him play every single game for the blues and trust me this lad is top quality, even city with all there billions came out and said they want to buy him, with all there money they could buy anyone, but they want landon, thats saying something, hes way too good for mls.
HE ISNT ANYTHING SPECIAL. He isnt at the level of premier players like walcott and fabregas. averagly american players are no were near as good as brazillian or italion players.
Yeah I'm not american but I think he's a great player. He could prove himself in europe if he really wanted to, but he loves LA and loves being there (I think). I hope he makes a permenant move to epl, he's already doing great in the world cup right now.
I'm not American, but after watching him play at the World cup in South Africa, I'm now a big fan. World class player in the making. Go team USA. We love you in Africa.
I really think this guy will always be just SLIGHTLY short of talent to be world class. He is a HECK of a player, and I think you can tell he is an absolute gym rat and a soccer nerd, watches tape after tape after tape, then hits the gym, shooting practice, and then coerver drills. He can SHOOT and has shown flashes of brilliance, he just lacks that imaginative creativity, flaire and guile to be world class. The US has come a long way to produce a great player like him, we need to keep going.

@silvershogun1, really? where did you hear this? If the rumors are true, I think he'd be better off at Everton rather than Chelsea or Manchester United.
I love this fucking video with that NIN song. Good choice. And WTF Donovan? No more misses like that one against the Spurs. Jeez, man !! Anyways is past now. Just keep working hard. Next week against Hull you'll have the chance to make up for last week.
Yeah, it was a tough miss, but that is just going to happen. They as players, and we as fans, just have to roll with the ebb and flow. Otherwise, we're gonna wither their nerves. However, the Hull game solidified LD's ass-kicking qualities - I'd wager to say maybe even more than in the Manchester United and Chelsea F.C. games.
Two goals and two (or is is three?) assists in 10 games, 8 of which were full length: that's strong for any player, especially a mid-season transfer.
He certainly has the endurance and quickness for the EPL, I just hope he can handle the physical play of the league better than he did in Germany. We'll see if his international experience helps him this time..........hoping it does.
Moyes is scouting the American leagues, not just Tim Howard and Donny but we also got 2 americans in are reserves in Anton Peterlin(23) and Cody Arnoux (22) who we got from like the 3rd tier of american football and from college, so we could be making 2 other big us stars
Glad to see donovan doing well in his first few games on loan with everton, He has really matured as a player, it makes me feel good that we have some talent here in the states that can be used in the English game i have always admired the EPL they are the best of the best.Keep it up boys.
Great loan signing from Moyles. He knows his Americans, with McBride, Howard and now Donavan. Won't be signed from LA as they'd want no less than 10m, but will help lots for the loan spell.
who gives a shit about the world cup, am an Everton fan and i would love to see everton and donovan do something here than see all the over payed england players run around the streets of south africa with their stupid useless wives.
The one thing I love about Donovan is that he hustles on every play whatever the situation it may be. Now.. I like Joze Altidore but he is just lazy. Jozy is one of my favorite player but he is lazy compared to Donovan.
Moyes will undoubtedly give the man a chance to play, and I'm confident he will shine. These British posters are clearly still bitter about a certain Revolutionary War...
i will be surprised if donovan does well in premier. not because he's not skilled (he is), but because he's a little nimble player that, well, might get shoved around a bit in the premier league; a league where guys like drogba and rooney eat steel bars for breakfast and then box before playing....in all seriousness, i hope our star striker doesn't get hurt, frankly...shoot, you guys already have all our keepers, lol
LOLOLOLOLOL europe gets the nam from spainyards and italians, english are nothing like as pussy as them (not being biased but it's true how they just dive all the time)
You guys praising Landon must be American. Yes he has pace....so what? In england he will only be able to use it if he is pushed out wide. In the centre they will just defend deep against him and he will be exposed as not good enough for top flight football. Everton will be facing Arsenal manutd liverpool over the next few months. The boy has no chance.
Newyork I wish him well. Mcbride, Reyna, etc have done well here so I wish donovan well but you guys are misguided if you think the epl is like anything like the MLS. Every week will be a big game and reputation counts for nothing.
We know what MLS and EPL is. That is why we are happy to see him go to EPL and excited to see how it goes. It will be a challenge for Donovan but one where he has the tools to be successful.
you certain? American playing abroad (except a few) are not given any respect or any playing time... thats why he failed in germany... He was phenominal during reserve matches, but the coach utterly refuse to play him for a substantial amount of time during league play. He has proved himself tenfold internationally by making the best defenders look shit. give him a chance (i feel the tone of your post has some other bias that has nothing to do with football)
I agree with you... Often American players are overlooked just because of their nationality. (except the goalkeepers maybe). I wouldn't go to say Donovan is world class, but he is better than a lot of players that play in England, without a doubt. However I do also understand what bigshot is saying about his size. But hey who knows ? Cahill Arteta Pienaar and Osman are not exactly huge, yet they still produce week in week out !
When you say proved himself internationally please give examples. Surely you can't mean the confederations cup last year in s.africa? No one takes that seriously. To prove himself at the highest level he has to be scoring goals week in week out against the best players in the world. When the game matters. C ronaldo has done that not l Donovan. In europe we don't have NBA or NFL or NHL its just football. Its like a religion here and donovan is just another player nothing special.
You seem to be bluring 'proving himself' and 'world class'. I would not say he is world class (Although I think he is gifted in a way a top 5% of the players in the world are). He can prove himself at the highest level without being world class. He is good enough to play in the EPL and never get relegated to the bench or lower league if he finds the right team.
It may be you mate who is confused. To prove himself in the coming weeks he will have to do so against chelsea, manutd, arsenal , mancity and liverpool. Anything less than world class will not be enough. He has proved he can play in the MLS. Thats all.
Mate... wrong again! He has proved his worth on the International stage against some of the best teams in the world (Brazil, Spain, etc).... Saying anything less is a joke. His time at Bayern was NOT a failure. In fact, he more than showed he could hang with the big boys. Did he excell? No, but he was played out of position. Let's hope Everton play him on the WING not as a striker.
I recommend watching "'D-Wreck Interviews Donovan" for its humor.... ;)
If you are really going to say the Brazilians didn't care about stopping him on his goal in the Confederations Cup Final you are really really reaching... He performed well against Germany in 2002 WC quarter finals, Italy in the 2006 WC GS, Portugal in 2002..
Like I said nobody cares about the Confederations cup. Draw your own conclusions. In 2002 he scored against poland and the usa lost. He also scored against mexico. Not impressed at all. He didn't score against italy and performing well and not scoring when your a striker is just not good enough. I will be at the emirates on saturday. I'll let you know if my opinion changes.
he was also playing in the midfield for most of those matches.... nit as a striker. he was setting up goals for others and delivering pin-point passes. e does what is needed for the team. e is not a one-trick pony. donovan has played like 5 position for the national team depending on formation. CAM, CF, ST, RM, LM, LW, RW
Finally someone talking football to me. We will see like I have said he has not proved himself at the highest level yet but he has an opportunity to prove me wrong. I doubt he will.
he's not a forward he's a midfielder and even as a forward you dont need to score to have a good game. he's always been more of a creator than a goal scorer but he defenatly can do both.
Well he did well at Everton. And would you guys stop with the silly argument that no one takes those tournaments seriously. I'll believe that when top players don't show up, show emotion, and cry in joy and pain. If you're calling yourselves a no one, then ok. Your choice. But otherwise it's wrong.
@bigshot201 No one compared him to C. Ronaldo. The everton fans seemed to agree that they liked Landon Donovan and wanted him to start with them permanently. When L. Donovan was with Everton they beat Chelsea and Man United two of the top clubs in the EPL. L. Donovan has a lot of talent and I don't think even the most biased critic couldn't admit to that.
Absolute I don't agree dude. Friendly games and mickey mouse tournaments are not proving yourself t the highest level. He has to do it in europe or in the world cup to prove he is world class. If he was as good as you think he would be playing in europe.
I justify him being good by simple observation, if you know soccer and watch him you can see he has a brain, athleticism, and accuracy with both of his feet that put him among the highest of pro players.
You act as if we think he is a soccer god. We know of his skills and limitations. But it is obvious he can play at the highest level. If you don't see the skills he has, I really not worth the debate.
Well lets be clear he had a total of four goals scored in five friendly matches for Bayern, but did not score any in league play. The team declined to extend his loan.
he really is an amazing player...he just needs a little more confidence and i think he can do great on Everton...possible even be among the top 5 players in the EPL. Hes def athletic and talented enough.
