The movie industry owes HG. Lewis a signifigently huge debt for what he did with this film. It could be compared to the Beatles influence on rock n roll or better yet the first real "punk "" flavoured anything hitting the earth like a comet. Halloween, Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Friday The 13th, the subsequent slasher/splatter boom of the 80s, Quentin Tarantino, Robert Rodriguez, Rob Zombie, Eli Roth, and the later torture porn gore of 2000s horror can all be traced back to this film.
These movies were ones I had completely discovered on my own no stores had them no friends had them I gotta say being bold and stepping out of the box and follow the trail of blood got me to these treasures
its so eerie how michael agins favorite movie was blood feast...then he goes and kills his room mate and puts him in the bath tub and does what?? cuts off the guys legs!!!! i think he was just playing out one of his fantasies while he was on a really crazy trip!!
i really find these old movies with bad acting and bad camera effects more terryfying. i mean, they act so natural, the blood is SO RED, and that stupid songs that they put, i think they are better than the nowadays ones.
She does and she's quite sexy, i'm surprised they got away with this movie in 1963 and was one of the first gore flicks ever that influenced many gore movies even the modern shockers like Hostel owe themselves to Herschell Gordon Lewis.
@Johnlindsey289 It was pretty shocking for it's time, but it's an utterly hilarious movie nowdays with some of the cheapest looking gore effects and the worst acting this side of MST3K. lol
According to my father, when he was 5 years old old, my grandfather took him and his siblings to the local drive-in theater in San Antonio. My grandfather, God rest his soul, let my father watch this movie while laughing at it the whole time. Meanwhile my dad and his siblings were hiding on the floor of the truck's cab.
I wonder how people reacted when they saw the trailer back then. I mean that was '63, just 3 years after Psycho which used chocolate syrup for blood, to see something go much more for the violence and shock than actually being scary must have drawn some macabre curiosity.
More blood! This was the 1st film to introduce "gore" on the big screen. Didn't know how the writer of this film got into making this film as well Herschell Gordon Lewis becoming "the wizard of gore", but this still remains one of the very best (but notrious) explotation classics I've ever enjoyed watching. Great for late night showing as well early morning showing. :) Ouch!
This movie is the first blood and gore movie in motion Picture history. If they made a remake of that movie it should have a Restricted rating for graphic violence and gore.
As horrible as the direction is, and as awful as the acting is, this is a very inovative film. It was one of the first of it's kind, and the filmmakers knew they were taking a dare. Remember, this was back in the days before ratings, so everything was uncut. Yeah, the blood looks like red paint, and the effects are obvious, but this was way before Tom Savini. So yeah, this is pretty much the first splatter film!
Terrible HORROR film!!!,..........but a classic COMEDY!! I think THAT realy sums it up. So IF you hapen to possess a good sense of humor and dont minde a little grossness then, by all means, see it.
The first of all splatter films! and i thought "Rob Zombie" movie are bloody, but this? I mean what kind of sick twisted fuck gets credit for making this sort of movie?
"...connection to michael alig's murder..." That's right. The "Party Monster" himself got the idea to cut off that guy's legs in a bathtub from the scene in which the woman in the tub is killed and her leg is removed. I started watching this film because it's mentioned in John Water's "Serial Mom", but I couldn't see it all the way through. Same thing with "Hostel".
This is the first ever slasher film ever to hit the theatres - it had a huge impact on 'gorno' movies that are shown today with its explicit violent nature. '...should not be viewed by any impressionable child...' Too bad Michael Alig's mother did not heed that warning.
Someone under this video said "Blood Feast" was the 1st "Splatter" film, though I'm not sure if it actually is the 1st one. The "Splatter" genre focuses more on blood and guts. "Slasher" films tend to be less gory. They emphasize the chase. The original "Halloween" is a perfect example of a 'Slasher' film.
I suspect the warnings at the beggining of these old titty-horror movies were merely to pique interest-. Imagine a mom and her child going to the sleazy theaters that showed titty horror in the past lol! Probably would have figured it out when the walked in and saw the bum whacking off in the aisle
Slashers are more of a serial killer movie which usually has some gore in it.
Splatters are films which purely concentrate on the ridiculous amounts of gore in it, this being the first movie to introduce to the genre (being called like that by George Romero).
Though I heard there was some medieval gory film in the 1910s.
