  • Great video, this is very weel done..I wanted to start exercising last year..and the only way I could do that, was by starting to do that, the moment that I tought about it..I just kept future me out of the picture ..and it worked :P

  • prooo cras tin ation

  • im looking up techniques to stop procrastinating when i got papers due in 9 hours. i found this very nice youtube clip... the presentation is nice... think i might replay it a couple of times... im staring at this comment for 5 minutes. oh look at the side clips.. theres another vid about procrastination.. im going to check that out next

  • No lie.......I came across this video after watching an angry video game nerd episode

    I also have a quiz and 2 assignments due tomorrow.......and it's 2 a.m in the morning

  • i go to torrentize this.

  • The way things should be accorcding to someone else...just get lost with this crap!

The reason why people put things off is THEY DONT WANT TO DO THEM.

Perfectly natural and perfectly resonable, next we will call this an 'Affliction' and start sending school kids to a shrink to hand out the pills and s**tbrain advice. WAKE UP PEOPLE!

Its more division, those who do as they are told promptly are 'good' and you get the picture!

  • test due tomorrow, paper and presentation in 3 days.... what the hell am i doing watching yt videos.... :D

  • I never procrastinate when i want some pot- after that all bets are off

    KNOWZ

    peace

  • From the book: //The Misconception: You can predict how well you would perform in any situation. The Truth: You are generally pretty bad at estimating your competence and the difficulty of complex tasks.// This book was fantastic!

  • I'm watching this as a way to procrastinate... >_>

  • Brilliant marketing.

  • i just ordered this book...I cant wait for it to get here..

  • Comment removed

  • Watching this video instead of doing homework

  • Uses hypnotic technics to suggest you to buy the BOOK etc

  • What you WOWNT now, isn't what you WOWNT later.

  • F'ing profound and so true!

  • WOUGHNT

  • *watchs this* yup

  • Lot's of empty words that sounds cool together.

  • Whenever I start to procrastinate, I don't. Every fiber of my being wants me to stop what I'm doing and do something pointless, but I force myself to do these things. I have to change the oil in my car? I'll do that now, I'll play Minecraft later. Need to do laundry? I'll do that now. I'll watch videos on youtube later. I want to learn how to play this song on guitar, I'll do that now, I'll play Call of Duty if I have the time. I try to procrastinate procrastinating, most of the time, it works.

  • @StraightEdgeHippie so try to procastinate, procastinating, interesting but what about the part where your body does what it WANTS instead of what it NEEDS that is hard for me like right now I need to finish an essay, but instead I watch a video on how to stop procastinating......but i'll try that

  • Just bought it, i look forward to reading, although i kind of feel i am being influenced into buying this, it really makes you question the motives of the author. Is he genuinely being sincere, or this this some elaborate plot to sell copies?

  • i got this but ,never got round to reading it though. i got sidetracked by facebook and angry birds.

  • So good, but you cannot suggest it to friends without sounding like an asshole.

  • Is it bad that I read about this book, preordered it, downloaded it when it came out, and am still too lazy to read it...?

  • I've just finished this book. It's worth reading but expect to be entertained more than educated.

  • better anti-procrastination idea: not watching videos that say the same thing over and over, slowly

  • im procrastinating beating my insomnia right now.

  • They need the narrator from Little Big Planet to narrate this.

  • Sold.

  • I think I'll click on Buttercup Swears and not do my chores.

  • @LaughingVegetables LOl, I thought the same thing, wtf, I search procrastination and in the sidebar there's this unrelated video just to distract you but you know you'll click it because the curiosity is too strong and you can't resist it XD

  • "the 'now you' must trick the 'future you' into doing what is right"

  • I literally watched this instead of working on my paper due tomorrow...

  • neh. that hurt my head. :(

  • BECALLS

  • cool sound effects, really quality presentation

  • interesting.. :)

  • Finals week. Need I say more?

  • @DarkFox717 Researching about procrastination is still procrastination. :)

  • i added this video to "watch later" and only watched it 2 months later

  • @wnavarrobr Haha I genuinely did this too

  • @wnavarrobr future you is disappointed.

  • @wnavarrobr What Irony. xD

  • Great video but what is up with that dude saying 'want'?!

  • Comment removed

  • Excellent use of Typography.

  • Content cataloged here:

    lostwhitemale-wordpress-com/2011/12/01/opb-ftiw-not-so-smart-procrastination-and-dirt-bag-dog/

  • How about instead of forcing myself to do things which I don't want to do and will make me unhappy, I do what I want to do and what I feel like doing... wouldn't that be best for my soul?

  • You are right but fuck you im going to roll a joint...

  • The irony is I paused my work to watch this.

  • досмотрю завтра

  • Procrastination? That's future me's problem. Let that guy deal with it...

  • if you want to outsmart ?future you?, then "now you" has to make "future you" retarded. So start taking as many drugs as possible and kill all the brain cells you can.

  • This isn't all that accurate. People procrastinate for different reasons. For example, some perfectionists tend to procrastinate due to anxiety. Paralyzed and feeling unable to start from the fear of not being able to do whatever perfectly. Procrastination can be a way of self-handicapping - a way to protect one's self-esteem when the person doesn't live up to his/her own expectations. They can use the excuse: "Well I would've done better if it wasn't for procrastination."

  • I'm putting off my assignment by watching this video and looking up "predilection"

  • Oh, I thought the trick to beat procrastination was to NOT think, "just do it", and then, with all the "obstacles" out of the way, procrastinate to the max!

I suppose I too am a bad tactician?

  • he reads this like a slam poet would.

  • this is meaningful.. i am going to buy this book

  • Bitch please, I procrastinate by playing the drums, not the other way around....

  • This is sooo surreal; I browsed through this today at Barnes and Nobles today, read this very passage. The passage on the normalcy bias blew my mind, good read, I would recommend this book to anyone interested.

  • anyone read his book already? good?

  • Thinking about thinking? Thinkception?

  • @MrEjemploanonimo metacognition

  • If I buy that book I never be able to read it.

  • I hate things like this. I still have no idea what the book's about. Read GTD instead...

  • @wyse99 It's essentially a list of forty-some fallacies we're hard-wired to make if we aren't careful, with about 2-5 pages on each, or so.

  • ok, great video, now let's go back to angry bird and facebook checking

  • Oh Jesus....this is me!

  • I'm watching this before I study for my final to get it out of the way.

  • I bought it. I'll read it eventually.

  • I watched this 25 times. That is about 82 minutes of procrastination by watching a video about procrastination.

  • i just procrastinated by watching this. fml

  • I'm to smart to outsmart myself, or to stupid? Is that a paradox?

  • how can i make a video like this? i love how it looks!! HELP PLEASE!

  • Okay motion graphics, too many gratuitous blur effects though.

  • i dont really read much but im interested in this.

  • mind. BLOWN. O.O

  • I'm watching this trailer instead of reading the book that's next to me. PROCRASTINCEPTION

  • I added this video to my "watch later" folder.

  • This video made me procrastinate 3 minutes and 37 seconds longer. xD Thank you Stumbleupon.

  • Fuck my life, i am going to fail college if i dont start doing my homeworks ... I hope this book will help me ...

  • i should outsmart smart myself more often

  • oh my gosh, the way he says some of those words makes me cringe.

  • meh i will watch this later

  • AMAZING BOOK! EVERYONE SHOULD BUY IT!!!

  • I see I am going to have to buy this book

  • Comment removed

  • I'll buy it tomorrow.

  • This was awesome :) witty ending.

  • thinking about thinking set and setting trippy

  • I watched this 25 times... I am a successful procrastinator...

  • OMG !! THAT WAS AMAZING !! i really should read the audiobook

  • Ouch, my brain hurts - sensory overload on this commercial. The book "launch trailer" was great - loved every second. Would watch again.

  • I tried to beat future me but now my head and hand hurts

  • he says want weird and i dont like it

  • He says because the same way.

  • can someone tell me what program they used to make this illustrative video? thanks

  • Comment removed

  • @moonsmilelucide The technique for the type of illustration in the video is called Kinetic Typography, I don't know the best programs to use to create your own though but if you do some research into Kinetic Typography you'll find your answers and some tutorials as well.

  • I watched this instead of writing my Essay.

  • So the most amusing paradox of all of this is that I need to buy the book in order to figure out how to change how I think, but chances are I'm going to procrastinate reading the book, hence not changing the way I think and therefore getting nowhere at all.

  • Comment removed

  • Putz! Traduzam esse livro pra português já!

  • Added to Watch Later

  • Here's what this all seems to say to me: Can I trust future me to make the right decision?

Right now, I want to get some homework done. A five-minute break sounds fair. But will five-minutes-later me be willing to get back to work? Does it matter, if I choose not to trust him now?

Despite the fact that I'm technically procrastinating now from a paper, I realize that this might be more important because it will allow me to fight procrastination later.

So remember: Fight your future you!

  • right.... time to do somthing

  • PROCRASTINATION.

Pausing this video halfway through to visit Facebook, then checking soundcloud, and coming back 1/2 an hour later.

  • @IMDguy lol ok. but a procrastinator such as myself buying a book about procrastination... sounds like i'll be procrastinating some more

  • this is a great book....picked it up yesterday and so far so good! Im intrigued by the things that this book talks about

  • what irony..a journalist posing as a psychologist tells you that YOU are not so smart!

  • Am I the only one who thinks about Mass Effect when I hear the words Tactician and Adept?

  • Oh cruel irony!!

Why must this product be book form?!!

Sure I'd start it... but I know myself too well to think I'd ever get around to finishing it!

  • I think I get it... so I should remind myself that in the future I'm really going to be wishing I had studied for that test instead of going to that club?

  • @ryandrums1001 Almost, you should think about the future you while in the club and how that will negatively impact your life because you will fail the test and think about that possibility. Which will allow you to make the positive choice of studying for the test in the present.

  • Is it just me, or does he say "want" in a weird way?

  • @bibimcmacky - Yeah, I am not sure I could read a book from someone who can't pronounce such an easy word ;-). He seems to pronounce other words fine. Definitely wouldn't listen to an audiobook version of this. Besides, I understand this book doesn't really explain how to fix your procrastination.

  • @robloid I'm from the southern U.S. - that's how we pronounce it. Sorry about that. The audiobook is definitely not going to be read my me.

  • @YouAreNotSoSmart : sounded perfectly natural to me.... which I would RATHER listen to than some carefully crafted "neutral" speech that shifts the priority from the message to pleasing people that are missing the message anyway...

  • @YouAreNotSoSmart You shouldn't be apologizing for your accent. It's not really all that distracting at all and I actually kind of like it.

  • @robloid im pretty sure his accent has nothing to do with his book....

  • @robloid It's called an accent. You, are not so smart.

  • @bibimcmacky I'm from the southern U.S. - that's how we pronounce it. I tried to mask it...but...

  • @YouAreNotSoSmart I'm from the south and that is not how want is said, at least in Oklahoma, Arkansas or Texas...it sounds like a movie version of someone from Alabama.

  • @YouAreNotSoSmart Now that you said that, I hear your accent! I think it's cool, us Californians don't have much of an accent.

  • @bibimcmacky Yeah, I had to go back to 1:39 over and over again b/c I couldn't concentrate on the meaning of the video... only how he pronounced "want"...

  • Damn you future me!! I always knew you were the problem

  • WHO'S READY 4 SKYRIM

  • listening to coast to coast am about this right now

  • what clever marketing. Making you feel guilty by reenforcing what most people do on a daily basis, and then providing a 'solution'

  • 2:37 "now you must trick future you into doing what is right" HOW???

  • @tried12usernames this is the key

  • Ill finish this video..tomorrow

  • Wow the use of text and everything is so beautiful.

  • i do want to write a book,

i do want to play a guitar,

    but i just don't

  • @PaudinsDrawings No you want to do those things but just not right now. You should do those things, though.

  • @JohnBorgy thats what i meant, and yea i should do these stuff for sure:P

  • And Reddit. Must Check Reddit.

  • Why is " Dude gets tazed while he has diarrhea" in the suggested videos?

  • Welcome to the Nation of Procrasti.

  • this is a trailer for a book...this. changes. everything.

  • Il finish watching the video later....

  • 10 people will finish watching this video.... tommorrow.

  • i think I'm more confused now than I was at the start of this video...

  • @franklinjexsul I agree. The average person is not going to comprehend this. The way the author pieces his words together while trying to explain a concept is slightly disjointed and transitions poorly between thoughts. I won't be buying this book.

  • The key is to reduce the amount of Shoulds, so you got more room for Wants.

  • Added to watch later, just to remind me why not to procrastinate.

  • i am desperate!!

  • @gregakis same here bro

  • Sounds like a good read. Maybe I'll get around to it.

  • You can not coin the putting off of modern worries and superficial, transparent tasks as sheer childish negligence. Human motive is driven partly by purpose, one will only suffer if one can attach meaning to it, excluding the typical unjustified slave morality. Procrastination is often due to a lack of purpose to ones task. Novelty and pleasure, more importantly the primal ones at crucial.

  • When you make plans, you're usually Dr Spock. The only problem is when it's now and go to do the plan, you're Homer Simpson. Will this book help me battle my inner Homer Simpson? ohhmmm beer.

  • after listening to NPR radio interview the author today, i got my kindle copy of the book today from amazon. the book is hard to put down once you start reading it! a great book :D

  • @DorohnL Eh, maybe I'll buy and read the book tomorrow...

  • i need this book. gaah.

  • I'm using this video as a form of procrastination.

  • @punchbowlhaircut me 2,i am desperate='(

  • I have to buy this book..

  • No. 46. Where you go @ 3:30??

  • My last philo summary, I will do this nowwwww

  • Cool typography!

  • you pronounce want really weird.

  • Could not get through the entire video, way too obnoxious...

  • Can anybody help me to get the script of this trailer? I really appreciate your help

  • procrastinators unite! ... tomorrow ...

  • I've been reading this blog forever. Now I will have it in book form, just so I can procrastinate reading it.

  • I'm watching this video instead of doing my homework.... True story....
