  • wow This is old School ;D

  • @estaticd i installed the trial thru wine tricks and i clicked on play once it was playable but the blizzard background installer isn't installing and it says waiting in connection info it doesn't have info and sometimes it freezes and i gotta restart my computer is there something i need to do and also i just downloaded playonlinux should i use that

  • When I started to use Linux WINE couldn't emulate a calculator.

  • @gabriellando

    lol noob :P

  • @gabriellando wine stands for

    Wine

    Is

    Not [AN]

    Emulator

    Look it up

  • Comment removed

  • @gamezonic it´s a word play:

    WINdows Emulator

  • @MrZeka666 no look on wiki or anything else

    Wine Isn't An Emulator

  • wow what a tutorial, you give a list of stuff you have to do and then play wow for 90% of the time.

  • If you run it in full screen, you get better frame rates. Also, CTRL + R will tell you how your framerates are doing.

  • How's it run without capture software running? average fps?

  • @DarkOctane I get between 20-70 depending on the location. Settings medium/high. Running a 2 year old laptop (Intel Core2Duo @ 2.0 Ghz, ATI Mobility Radeon 4650). and it's actually running about 5 fps faster on Linux than on Windows.. :P

  • woah random names actually worked back then???

  • cataclysm work on wine ?

  • @rogeriopazduarte It works for me no problem at all in cata.

  • cataclysm work in wine ?

  • that runs super badly

  • @gamenow44 Try using the proprietary drivers for your video card by going to System > Management > Drivers. They work a lot better.

  • Mine runs at 2 FPS in the beggining of the Draenei stuff, if i put the camera in the top of the character it goes up to 7 frames max. Can someone help to run it a little bit faster. My pc :

    Pentium 4 3.0ghz

    1 GB Ram

    ATI Xpress 200m

I run it in Linux 10.04, Wine 1.2 i think and full screen mode.

Im gonna try the Opengl thing today.

  • @2WIRE311 Don't use envy!

USE JOCKEY!! (System -> Administration -> Additional drivers)

    And upgrade to Wine 1.3.5

  • Comment removed

  • @xamire And I am assuming you aren't using 7.10. Envy isn't supported past Ubuntu 9.10

  • could u use this to play wow on ps3

  • @xGIATIx not anymore...PS3 has made it impossible to put Linux on the playstation anymore, but you might want to look more into that yourself...

  • WTF? What do you mean HowTo?!

You didnt show us how to do a single fuckin thing!

  • @circutracer150 look up wine for linux and you'll find out

  • @batistaker123 Graphics run perfectly fine on Windows, then I go into Ubuntu 10 and run the game with Wine... very choppy, missing shadings, etc.

When I try to run it with the SET gxApi "opengl" mod, it says cannot find suitable display device.

Everything is up to date... so wtf is the issue?!?!?

  • @circutracer150 did you install your graphics card drivers? DON"T USE ENVY. It doesn't work past 9.10. Use jockey (labeled as install drivers, under system--> administration)

  • @circutracer150 It's called the description. maybe you should read it sometimes and click the links

  • You can play 4.0.3 in linux. just use wine, and do a google search. its what i did.

  • How are you recording this?

  • @stopthrm fraps.com

  • @xGIATIx ...Umm NO! Fraps doesnt work in LINUX!

  • @stopthrm my bad calm the hell down jeez

  • @xGIATIx Problem is...I have tried almost every video capture program imaginable on the market for Linux (xvid cap, recordmydesktop, even the new GLC) and I can only eek out 5fps max when running PCSX r. Point being I am trying to do a lets play in Linux which I think is possible but havent been able to pull off...

  • what if it pops up an error????

  • @andstinaboo89 did you install the latest version of WINE? Or the one from the Ubuntu Software Center (or Package Manager)? Do use the one from Software Center. It won't work with patch 4.0.1

  • TYVM i love this

  • if wine could play that good on yore pc in 2007 then it will be exelent on my hp intel pentium dule core inside with 600GB and in 2010 :D

  • thx man! :D (Oh, and umm, WINE is not an emulator :P).

  • whats that spell in your 4 key?

  • Do you get the same amount of fps as on windows?

  • @Wolfskine214 I have more

  • @Wolfskine214 unfortunately you will most likely receive a lower frame rate in linux vs. windows. I won't go into the full detail of why, but that's the short answer :)

I still run it under linux because I enjoy it that much more.

  • what are your specs?

can i run it with an intel GMA 256 mb???

  • wen i try to get pn my WoW toon it gets to full bar wen its loading after u click enter world then it says not responding and then goes to me being disconnected please help me wat do i do.

  • what song is this

  • @ForgottenToilet Amber by 311

you'll probably also like Champagne by 311

  • Ty dude i subscribed

  • Ok well I got wow to work but when I open it it has some buggy graphics thats ok but I cant exit the game I have to restart my comp to get rid of it. Any ideas on how to fix this?

  • AMBER is the colour of blud elf energy.

  • @stopthrm yer its just a song not a wow song lol =P

  • @mpreinke YEA I KNEAW THAT! TRUFACTS!

  • front mullet =p

  • What Microphone is that?

  • sudo apt-get install wine

    sudo apt-get install envy

  • Is there any linux OS that is does not work for...I am sure it would work for unbuntu seen as that the most popular.

    nice vid btw xD

  • I was wondering what s the best hardware config to run Wow on Wine? I am looking for high end specs :)

  • song?

  • you have to scroll down first so that blizzard thinks you read it then accept

  • last time I tried, there was a bug that didn't make the accept button click able.

  • IF THE ACCEPT BUTTON IS GREYED OUT!

you have to download IES 4 linux, because the installer thing blizzard created requires it :D clever blizzard. Google a thread for it, basically install it, and it'll be in your wine environment. Then when you try to install wow again, it should work. I'm installing it on my netbook as i type, so if you need any help just message me.

  • you need to upgrade wine

  • no, if u cant accept the terms, u have to download a more recent version of wine, they have fixed the bug!!

i play on linux, indeed. i wonder if will work the wrath of the lich king too....

  • just upgrade wine to latest version in the Synaptic package manager and then itll work :))

  • i tried this but on the end user license agrement wont let me click accept.

  • thats becuse you havent installed the fonts needed, google for it and you should be able to find it

  • Wow... how retarded are you?

  • hmm, about as retarded as you i suppose.

  • You win xDD.

  • nice-ass video man.

  • Comment removed

  • wtf you didnt show us how to do anything

    i need step by step

  • do you have to do that thing with envy because i dont get how

    some one please tell me

  • so in wine what do i have to do i got wine configuration up and i dont know what to do their

  • im confused i want to run wow on ubunto and it comes up with an error is it because it cant run .exe im not sure but can some1 simplify this such as when you download envy what does it do and can some1 reply to me with help thank you!

  • for the horde!

  • cool video

  • Gayelf

  • that didnt even make any sence you fucktard. what are you, 7?

  • Can you install with discs? :)

  • Yes download "PlayOnLinux" you can plan ALOT of games with it, I find it better then wine!

  • @shexMEk play on linux is just a software to make it easier to install/config but WORKS under wine, so u actually using wine each time u play anything with it. xD

  • Just one question... How do I find the registry keys in ubuntu... and the ubuntu wiki page doesnt have anything on it about creating a registry key.

  • I apologize. You say "for more info check my website". So for that I am sorry. But I still think that the title of this vid is miss leading. But as for the info on your site. Thank you.

  • Maybe its just me but I have seemed to missed the part of your video to where actually show us how to got wow on your linux system and got it running. You just showed us that YOU could play it on linux. You should name this video "how I got..." instead of "how to" because you dont show "how to" anything. I going to check your site to see if you actually do explain "how to".

  • I downloaded all the patches im now 3.1.4 or something BUT how to install wow classic tbc and Wotlk I don get it :S

  • aahm found the terminal, but i cant write my pw in the terminal (step 2), whys that?

  • oh lol I found it haha

  • just got linux and i know i suck at english, so just need some help with theese Terminal....first, how the heck do I open a terminal, when I know that it will prolly come with some more questions hah =D

  • Congratulations, written like someone completely without a clue. You must be one of those idiots that "educate" themselves with MSNBC and Jerry Springer.

  • I don't even know who Jerry Springer is, sorry. All I'm trying to say is that when I tried Ubuntu I had a horrible experience.

Like when I went to play a game, it changed the resolution after I exited the game and then I had to edit a file about a thousand times to get it to work again. And another time were I hit something on boot and then I coulden't boot anymore.

  • The fact Linux is even playing a Windows game is accomplishment enough. The problem isn't Linux, the problem is you are trying to play a Windows game on another OS. Such a feat requires a little patience and brain power. If that's not your thing, then stick with Windows for Windows games. When Windows can play games made for Linux and be just as friendly, then you may have a point.

  • Yes, I do agree thats its a big accomplishment.

IDK why, I just had LOTS of problems with Linux. It was pretty sweet at first, with compiz and all. Then it gets all technical.

I had to make an account on forums and got help there. Every time I finally get something fixed, something eles screws up. Like youtube with compiz or w.e,

And Youtube in full screen crashing my computer. Flash on Ubuntu is VERY laggy (Includes youtube)

  • I'd say your problem was the video card and driver. I have zero such problems, even with flash.

It's a taste thing. If you have problems with it, then stick with Windows. That's why I have a linux machine and a Windows machine.

  • yea, Probably. That was my old laptop - A intel celeron @ 1.6ghz and ati radeon 200M. My new one can play crysis on low =)

  • WHAT? you've never heard of Jerry springer? seriously!?

  • NVM lol figured it out. Stupid me!

  • Well, I am using Linux right now, have been for about 3 years. Maybe I missed the part where it screws up??? I certainly haven't wasted my life trying to fix it, it runs just fine. In my opinion it works better than windows.

"Microsoft may give you windows but Linux gives you the whole house"

  • Well, I tried Ubuntu. It was good, but my problem was is getting my FUCKING GAMES TO WORK. I had to follow theses bigass list of instructions, install wine and do some scripts or something. After a fews hours, I gave up after the game kept on messing up (It was like black for half of the screen). Also, after a while I figured out I had to tweak the hell out of it.

  • lol is there sound when u run wow his way on linux ??

  • what's the song name ?

  • 311 - amber

  • how much is the ram linux???? pls can say me fast

  • world of warcraft on linux now i dont need a computer now i can play world of warcraft on linux instead of using windows

  • great now i can play wow on the ps3 with linux, amazing!! a powerful gaming pc!

  • I take that back, I suck. I clicked the link and followed the steps. The Envy program was a big help. Awesome tutorial.

  • Wow, I didn't learn anything from this vid. :-\

  • haha you(and this video) remind me of a talk show host on some radio station

  • How are you recording voice on Ubuntu and Recording?

  • i had only 12fps, how can i increase it?

  • its better on windows

  • what Cam program do you use might i ask?

  • I just installed Ubuntu and grabbed wine from Synaptic Package Manager..I forgot I still had WOW installed on the old windows drive..All I did was open the wow exe with wine and it worked..thats all I did...Linux is awesome.

  • wish my mom would let me get a job so I could buy a 1337 pc like yours but she said I need to work harder on my grades first I can work during the summer tho

  • uHAHUHAuHAUH I see now.

config.wtf = config. What The Fuck! hahaha

  • or wow text file?

  • Comment removed

  • It is wow text file, but when I first saw it a couple years ago when I began to play wow the immature part of me said "config.what the fuck" and I lol'd.

  • yea lol. that's exactly how I read it every time. :D

  • Great work!

  • this doesn't actually explain how to do nething lol

  • click the link >.>

  • I'm curious - linux is using opengl (afaik), most of the effects (available when putting everything maxed out) - are supposed to be directX calls - not opengl - from my understanding, if the calls are not understood or have no equivalent - they simply will have no effect - I saw a post in here about various gfx corruptions - Can you truly say that for example anti-aliasing works? (not just the slider, but can you clearly see a difference visually?)

  • wow is using opengl. use -opengl key

  • well....the mac version of WoW runs with opengl.

as mac osx doesnt support directx

  • after it's installed and i wanna press play

(didn't create account yet) it starts downloading 2.4.2. enGB patch app or something,

is there something wrong then or doest it have

to download this to play wow?

  • nooooooooob

yah its suposed to do that but the update takes day lol

  • Yes it is necassary for you to download the patch.

World of warcraft, once installed requires you to download a series of patches before you being able to play. The patches are updates to the system. A new patch comes out every week. And after installing the initial patch the rest only take about 15minutes to download.

  • Please tell me how you made this video. And can you make a video on how to do it?

  • Hi,., great it works.. but I have ONE mayor Problem :( when ever i enter a cave/house/something who is inside.. i get graphic problem like a cube in the middle the screen.. and string all over the screen and text is gone.. did you have this problem? if someone know this problem reply back please :D

  • how do you run wow in a window in stead of the whole skreen

  • Check your Wow Video settings. its in-game option

  • What flav of Linux are you using?

  • Is it not obvious ?

  • Who says linux can't game? :)

  • Envy sucks, it has outdated drivers. I always recommend getting the latest drivers for your GPU.

  • what screenrecorder do you use in linux?

ive been trying to find one but i didnt want to buy demorecorder (the only one i could find)

please PM me and tell me

  • there's always recordmydesktop

  • Great video.

  • Hey guys can you help me out a bit?I really want to switch to Linux OS (i'm currently on Windows Xp Sp2) I hate my Windows ... thats why i am want to go with Linux so can you give me some tips (i'm using the PC mostly for games and movies )

PS. I like the concept of Lunix but Im a bit scared

  • if your just using it for games and movies you will have alot of stress using linux.

  • I using ubuntu...

You can install linux in a dual boot with windows!

So when you start your pc,you have to choose windows or ubuntu!

Just go to the site of ubuntu and read the documentation...

    Good luck

    A great ubuntu fan!

  • Oh, and for the record. Do NOT go asking for Linux advice on youtube of all places, that's just common sense...some nut will coax you into Gentoo on your first distro...

  • hi, i have a question,

can i use wine to run w3 frozen throne, because when I try, the graphics just wont work, thanks.

  • What's the specs on your machine? It runs really really well, it must be somewhat powerful!

  • No it won't I talked to a Blizzard offical.

  • Haha, that was the stupidest thing I've ever heard.

  • Why would it? I know for a fact it isn't but for people who don't believe think about it.

Blizzard is still getting the money for the .exe file AND the service each month. They don't give a crap what you use it on.

  • This is so freaking gay i follow all of the instructions and i pop the cd in but nothing happens!!!! Wine doesn't work at all and now im pissed off. Whats ubuntu without the Wow. just some cheap scheme to go against Windows! i don't mean to diss ubuntu accually its pretty good. but i want to play my wow. i have ubuntu 8.04. help me???

  • download wine-doors

  • Partition your hard drive, dumbass.

  • where the hell was the regedit things? im stuck here on 9 fps lol XD

  • I don't have a super high end system and on windows I can run fraps and wow just fine with no lag. You're amazed that simple games work?

  • wow, suck a closed source microdick you luxumbourgian teknocunt...

not that I play video games but there definitely a good test for wine...

  • OMG confused. Lol that was an original comment but gross at the same time.

I'll have to try this tut soon.....

  • nice video man. I've just started playing with Wine, and I'm mostly running games and programs from my Windows partition. Sadly enough, it works better emulated in linux than natively in windows, most of the apps anyway. buw how do you install programs or games through wine? thanks.

  • WINE = Wine Is Not an Emulator

  • Can you just install it

  • No, it's a matter of specific game engine. Generaly you need to install linux-based game engine for specific game to run windows game on linux.

  • But how about red hat

  • I will always get like 30 seconds away from finishing installation and its all something is fucked up ith tme 5 it pisses me off, if you can message me or something im so frustrated >=(

  • Nice video!

Some people advise for copying the hole Windows installation to wine's virtual C: drive and import Windows registry to wine too... Is this any good to make or it can screw up all wine's config? Also I tried to install TBC using cedega but it doesn't work at all, the pictures show out of the screen and when I press quit, Ubuntu log off. o.0

  • I recommend to first install the basic wow-version, later just copy the new versions from windows. As I had trouble with the background download and patch installer e.g.

  • thank y so much your movie and your walk trough really helped me out with me getting wow on my pc.

props and keep the good work up.

  • ubuntu 4ever

  • Lol, front mullet!

    Good vid, mate.

  • nice hardware estatid. I might upgrade the vidoe card though
