So the 3d parts are real stop-frame but the ingame sequences are just faked using a nice little algorithm,

too easy to spot because the resolution has been scaled down to accomodate the block size. if you were doing it for real you wouldn't have bothered to make it all shimmery on the scaled backgrounds (1min 10sec)
