  • Awesome stuff Chris! So did you share the Steadi duties with Larry? I know he's used to the biggest & heaviest rigs but body mounting that lot must even be a stretch for him! Must have been great to work with him, and show off your awesome Handsfree skills! Next time you're rigged for something special give me a call - I'd love to shoot you a great 'making of' (on Steadicam of course)!

  • @SteadicamOperatorUK Thanks!

I wish.I was just there to train larry on the Steadiseg, not that he needed much instruction, and to work out some technical issues for the shots he had to do. I know I learned more form him than he did from me. What a superb person he is, probably the best Steadicam op in the world.

    Let's keep in touch!

    Chris

  • Horses probably say something similar about us.

  • i don't get how this thing doesent fall, it has only 2 wheels :D

  • @MrFbnm Where are you?

  • very nice, can't wait to see what Scorsese/Richardson come up with these tools!

    p.s. need a hard-working, easy-going camera assistant/ trainee/ slave? :-)

  • @MrFbnm Thanks for the offer!

  • That rig is awesome. How's the movie coming along? It sounds like it'll be another Scorsese classic.

  • @bobb328 early days yet!

  • Which 3D rig is that? P+S Technic? How are you liking the ALEXA?

Looks really smooth!!! Hope to see some footage before the movie. lol

  • Still, very impressive non the less. I wish I had a rig like this. maybe some day.

  • At 0:09 better watch the lower endof the sled! It's going hit the tire on segway. and where is the 1.5 million on this rig? Can you please itemize? Just curious, Because I don't see it. I figure about $4500 - $7200 for a segway, $60,000 for a steadicam archer or clipper, $40,000 - $100,000 for the cam, $20,000 - $30,000 for wireless follow focus and video transmitter, batteries and accesseries for cam and steadicam rig. May be $5,000 for the seat and stedicam brackets. $262,200.00 at the most.

  • @aviatormxpilot

Check again, there are 2 cameras. It is a 3D rig. As for the cam itself about 60k.

Add the 3D rigging. There's more to this rig than you think. Freakin sweet right!!

Just thought i'd point out the 3D part.

  • @stoneground1 Hell yeah, it's sweet! I just don't see $1.5 million. This means that the 3D part of the rig is over $1 million? No way, really? if so, this is all I have to say.... "DAMN!" How much does one get paid for this type of steadicam work and 3D set up? I know that Hollywood pays from $1200 - $2400 per 10 hr day. for your averge seadicam rig set up. This is gotta cost some serious money per day.

  • @aviatormxpilot

I figure just for operator for this rig you're looking at about $3 to 4k per 10hr. The rig itself would cost way more than the operator!! And think about flying this without the handsfree segway!! Wow!! Probably a good 60-80lbs. Maybe less. Altogether i figure about 8k a day for all of this!! And you know they would use the hell out of it!!! lol

  • @aviatormxpilot you're forgetting the lenses. Those look like master primes or cookes.

At least $100,000 per lens. Sure it's not 1.5 million, but I'd figure at least half a million.

  • @aviatormxpilot I'm pretty sure the Segway (actually a Handsfree Transporter modification) is about $15,000. That is most not an Archer or Clipper, it's Larry McConkey's Tiffen Steadicam Ultra 2 (customized.) $100K+. Larry is one of the best and most expensive. He travels with two semi trucks full of accessories and I believe his rate is in the $3-4K range, regardless of the camera he uses. He is paid for his virtuoso mastery of the Steadicam, not for the weight or complexity of the camera.

  • @Sunporchmedia Still this rig as it sits is not 1.5 million.

  • @aviatormxpilot Understood. As steadivision/Chris explained, he was essentially quoting the Pace guys on the 1.5 mil figure, for the 3D prototype camera rig itself. I just wanted to clarify some of the other facts and figures you and Stoneground1 were speculating on. By the way I dropped a word, it should have read "most definitely not an Archer or Clipper"...

  • @Sunporchmedia It's all good. It's just there are a lot folks on the camera stabilizer posts that exagerate or don't know what they're talking about. I'm all aboou the facts, not assumptions. I made my comments based on the fact that I ahve bought the Bosch extrusion, there is a Segay shop 2 dorors down fron my studio and that I live about a 20 min drive from the Steadicam factory and have been there a number of times trying out all the rigs.

  • @Sunporchmedia BTW, Nice work with the Flyer! In case you haven't noticed, I use a VariZoom Aviator MX. I've yet to post a demo because I've only worked on a few projects. The biggest one being for a low budget project for Lakeshore Entertainment. A friend sold a script to them and they had us shoot and edit the project. We're in post now.

  • @aviatormxpilot Thanks for the compliments. Actually updating my demo this week. I visited the factory myself on a visit to LA last year. Took the Workshop in December.

  • @Sunporchmedia I'll most likely take the week long work shop next time it's in So. Calif. Hopefully after get my vacation/sick pay from work next April.

  • Very impressive rig Chris!

  • The main money is in the 3D rig. It pulls I/O and convergence, and is self-balancing. It's a prototype, so the price will come down. I just remember the Pace guy saying "That's one and a half million bucks you got there" every time I picked it up. I went through a lot of clean underwear.
