I fell hard for Super Turbo when I read a collectors strategy guide in Gamepro for it (with the then new artwork!) when I was a little kid. My arcade skipped this and I never, never was able have a "pure" experience with it like I see you play it in your videos. Hyper ST and HDR felt off to me and I'm still chasing that childhood phantom. I think you are the first person I've seen who loves II X so so much and wants to keep and cultivate it's legacy.
where i live in the uk, no one plays street fighter at all, BUT i have a sega blast city in my room, currently running mame. i was planing on getting a 3s board (thats my fav game of all time, followed by ST) but CPS3 boards are very delicate, so my going try get my hands on a SF2x board also, im trying get my friends into it but its kinda hard. i only got one competitor and thats my dad who showed me how play ST haha. good vids john keep it up
i'e played hdr and givin it a try, but it seems like john said a bit dumbed down, when a ken player can spam dp and win, its a shame, you wont see that in ST i came back to ST thru mame and ggpo imho its the best fighter out there, and oh yea 3rd strike blows balls in comparison
I really enjoyed your videos. Pretty much what everyone else has said, holds true to me as well. For basically staring at a single scene and listening to someone talk, surprisingly, I never got bored. You have a lot of entertaining and insightful comments. Hope to see more from you and thank you for sharing your experience in japan with us.
I love Street Fighter. I just can't stand the control method that roughly 95-98% at any given time of the overall professional seen use's. (Sticks)
For me I find a noticeable gain from the arcade style buttons, but having grown up on consoles myself my precision moments & timing is less then half of what it can be on a good D-Pad when I'm forced to use even the best of sticks. (Even one's I've personally modded)
So going to a tourney where people assume it's what you use is a problem for me.
Your videos are some of the most interesting and entertaining videos I've seen on YouTube and they're mostly a one take capture of a single object. Your thoughts and commentary is just fantastic. I look forward to more.
The only things I want are Chun's normals nerfed, Yun's Genei Jin nerfed (longer build up time, more push back on blocking opponents), Mak's juggle/stun after SA2 nerfed, and maybe Urien's Unblockable Aegis Crossup. I'm not talking about adding any moves or any of that nonesense, just these little tricks to even the playing field.
Interesting thoughts, John. Would you say this applies to 3rd Strike and the upcoming 3rd Strike Online? To put it in perspective, I've played the game for 4 years, my main is Alex. I love it. To me it is the best fighter ever made. However there's some dumb shit, and given the chance I would like to see it tweeked. Now, my Alex is really good and can hang with 95% of the cast without many problems. But when I say tweeks, I just mean remove the dumb shit, Ryu doesn't need a fake fireball.
I own a super turbo cab myself, but ofcourse it has that impossibly difficult AI. Think the farthest i've gotten is i beat 3 characters. I do want to eventually purchase a japanese board and replace my american board, think I've seen them on ebay for around 200 dollars every few months that they do pop up. I started playing ST with HDR bout found ST more...complete......unfortunately i live in houston we have 2 arcades, and neither runs hdr or st tourny's.
Sounds awsome the idea on the stream and everything. Great to see this. We gotta bring back the greatest street fighter and debatibly the greatest fighting game of all time.
@Jak00125 3s killed the street fighter scene for a while, it was rejected and some players disappered forever. There was a hardcore reemergence, but that was only for the hardcore.
@kingoffighterz Oh please. You guys had the Alpha series if you didn't like 3S. So don't give me that 'it killed the scene' rhetoric. Plus you had MVC, and the early 2000's brought us CVS and the brilliant CVS 2.
@Jak00125 Alpha series was great, but SFIII took the reigns from SF2. MvC2 and Cvs2 were side games. When i first played SFIII (dont remember which in the series) I was really turned off by the game. Bear in mind I was 14 at the time, and have grown a fond appreciation and respect for the game once I understood it's gameplay mechanics.
@kingoffighterz Well, we're going to have to agree to disagree than. I think 3D Fighters killed the SF series more than anything else. And I'm not trying to trash ST, I respect those players and that community and not trying to say '3S rocks over ST any day' or any of that. I just see similarities with what John is saying in regards to re-balancing and trying to keep the community alive.
@kingoffighterz Oh yeah, classic vid. Kuroda spanked his ass. But I think that was a case of one play being of a much higher skill level. I think of it more like; two super high level players, one picks Chun, and one picks Remy. Who do you think would win?
@Hampsterboy420 I'm in the same boat. I think it looks fun, but it certainly wouldn't be any fun alone, and my friends really don't seem to care about it.
as a side note, i've noticed that the cpu on the american and Japanese versions of super turbo is insanely difficult. however the cpu on "X" (grand master challenge) is not quite as difficult. (I'm basing this opinion on single player mode in ggpo)
I'm 17 years old, and Super Turbo is definitely my favorite SF game (and fighting game) of all time. I'm upset that I didn't really get to experience the whole arcade scene (there is still arcades but the arcades in my state don't even have any players playing st and they mainly just play marvel 2). I really hope we can bring back the arcade scene because I've been practicing ST alot and want to face other people in the arcade :P
super turbo is a amazing game , prob my fav SF game. it's alot different than how HD Remix plays. play on GGPO alot. and there's some really good players on there.
Nice JAMMA board, I would really like to get into this game I had played most of them on SNES then stopped and picked up on PS2 playing Alpha. Super Turbo seems interesting and theres a learning curve which I like.

@ddazza7447 don't you find 3s kind of ruined street fighter? ST is a far better game. The parry and throws on jabs ruined the game.
