I often think how much I would have loved to have been born a son of Southern Planter. To look forward to events like the party shown here. To be served by servants, to have every need met at the asking. That surely was the greatest period of time to live in the South. I was born in the South, reading everything I can about that time, hearing about my ancestors who lived on a Virginia Plantation, and honoring my ancestors who fought to protect that way of life.
@KentuckRoad Are you really serious with your comment? Great for whom? White men? "That way of life" came crashing down. Do you think you would have enjoyed the crash as much? They were fighting to protect that way of life because they were not equipped to do the work that those who truly built this country did and they knew what would happen to them if their "servants" were allowed the same resources they had. Cowardice is not so great a way of life if you ask me...
@GirlieRat I am very serious. The Antebellum period of the old South was the most wonderful time for those who were born in the Aristocracy. Those who knew they were better and were not ashamed to let everyone else know. Why should a servant ever believe they are equal to those who were masters over them when they are clearly not equal and never could be. Clearly in Africa today there are many who don't have the skills to even feed or provide water to their familys.
If I am not mistaken, after Orry and Madeline were finally married, Orry has to go away again. Justin takes the opportunity to try to get Madeline back and Orry comes to her rescue again. A fight ensues between Justin and Orry and Justin falls (or is pushed) out of a window by Orry. He dies.
Thanks for posting all the North and South clips. This is by far my favorite miniseries of all time. I'm looking to buy it on DVD, so this will tie me over for now. Thanks again!!
I remember reciting the line, "By God, I'll show you what it means to be mah wife!" And then my wife slapped me, LMAO!
