I don't think Brian plays the piano/keyboard anymore. As you can see in this performance and other performance on tv, he uses it as a prop -- very sad to see him like this. It may make him feel more comfortable having the keyboard in front of him.
What a pure genius this man is. Yes, almost 50 years later and Brian sounds great but a touch shaky up high...but the band is absolutely phenomenal and the vocals over all are breathtaking...I've made my living as a singer for years now, trust me, singing these arrangements this well live is unbelievably difficult.
I saw Brian on the 7th Jan 2008 at The State Theatre here in Sydney Australia..he was brilliant to say the least...for a man of his age and what he has put himself through over the years..you have to be a true Brian Wilson fan to understand the Brian of today..we clapped till our hands hurt..then we clapped some more.Thank you Brian for giving us so much pleasure over the years a finer human being..there never was....Cheers Ribbo..
P.S trend setters...dont forget Carl sang this song..not Brian!
Yup, you may be the only person! LOL! Seriously, the Lord's choir could be singing in this vid, and we'd ALL think they were a half-tone off key. The sound reproduction here is poor.
usecori, I have seen other videos of Brian Wilson singing this song and he sounded just like he does in this video. Not sure if it was all the drugs or some kind of medical condition but I don't think he can sound much different. Sad, because the man is a musical genius.
Brian's voice was much better than Carl's before his drug & alcohol days. Check out "Betsy", "The lonely sea", "Don't talk, put your head on my shoulder" etc
we actually met one of the guys in the band before the show - he tried to sell us their tickets, but our seats were better! while talking to him, he told us that the previous night was SO unbelievable that the entire group went out to celebrate, including brian and al. they had too good of a time the previous night, and the second show was nowhere near as good.
we exchanged numbers, and he called after the show to apologize for the poor performance.

No, his ear is definitely on key, but his voice cracks up a bit on the higher notes.
But considering the guy's lucky to be alive, it's pretty darn good if you ask me. I'd still pay good money to see him.

I feel the song is more emotional when Brian sings it though Carl probably had a better voice.

Too bad Carl is not around to sing it like he did on the original recording. Carl had such a sweet, pure voice.
