Its true, most of the comedians are from the north of england or scotland! and it is also true its because we say it like it is and are very flat. I'm from blackpool and the majority of my family are northern, except one set of cousins who are from london and our humour is completely different, you could almost describe northerners as having "dry" sense of humour because we tend to be very sort of monotoned when we speak, but still very funny! LONG LIVE NORTHERN HUMOUR!

@Hydermard You can either watch adverts, or you can pay for the privilege of watching thousands upon thousands of hours of videos and entertainment. The internet has always been about advertising and always will be as long as it is a free service (and I'm talking about visiting websites being free, you do of course have to pay your ISP to connect to the internet in the first place).

I prefer annoying adverts over website subscription fees, myself.

but to be fair most successful comedians are from upper middle class university type backgrounds. There intelligence gives them the ability to observe the world around them.

Which ones don't move to London. It's part of the nostalgia trip.

Look at Bernard Manning, he actually stayed true to his roots, and showed real working class humour, factory humour, and the loveable luvvie left hated him for it.

It's a odd world, but there you go.

Its hard to know how someone can live amongst guardian journalists, BBC senior managers and varous luvvies in leafy Highgate and write about working class women in the north without seeming patronising. I know the alternative comedy brigade of the early 80s with the exception of Alexi sayle all did this I think. none the less I find it a little fake..Regards The oxygen thief :)

Every writer to sound honest and convincing must write about what they know they draw on their own experiences, why should comedy be any different. Yes Victoria was born in Bury, so her experience is of archetypal northern characters. That doesn't condemn her to live her live long life in Bury. that is utter rubbish.
