There is no difference between V1 or V2 video you posted. This is not how I remember how this song was sung back in the 80s. Also this is not the same video that was released backed in the 80s. I will have to find the video from the 80s where she is wearing the white dress being walked back home.
Did you folks know Patty was asked to take over vocals after David Lee Roth left Van Halen and she declined? She said some years later that might not have been the best career decision she ever made.
I read somewhere (I think it was Wikipedia) that they made this video for $20 and the record company (Columbia?) signed them after seeing it. Wow, them were the days, eh? It's a hell of document showing a pretty average band, playing a remarkable song in a very unremarkable way---except for Patty, that is. Great singer, great song--forget the rest.
I remember an interview with PS and she described the making of this video. She admitted the band was inexperienced being filmed, and the cameraman basically just focused on her jumping around. That's probably why it was re-made into the more professional version you can also find on YouTube
Bon Jovi wasn't actually IN the band. On the Bands Reunited show, Patti said that they needed another guitarist for the video, and Jon somehow was hanging around, so he got drafted in.
I like all versions I 've heard thus far, but there is something about this one and version 1. Well, I guess what I am saying is that, 1 and 2 are better with more feeling than the official one.
John McEnroe married up I think.Even though he was a talented athlete this girl was out of his league. He got lucky I guess.I swa her not to long ago and she still looks really good.Patty you rule!!
Kind of ironic that one of the biggest catchphrases of the 80's was "Say No To Drugs" because looking back at the popular fashions of the day (such as Patty's outfit here) one would assume that we were all saying "Yes" to drugs.
It's a beautiful song - one of their best. i always wonder what they might have done if they didn't go so "studio" with their overproduced second album. The combination of zack's songwriting and Patty's amazing voice was incredible. One of the best albums of the 80's.
I think this is the better directed version. The other version doesn't show the entire band as well as this one. I sure never realized that Jon Bon Jovi played for this group, and I certainly didn't know that the late great Dee Murray(one of the best bassists)of the original Elton John Band played with them either! Unbelievable!
That was my first reaction too. Someone told me to look for this version and see Jon Bon Jovi in it, but when it came on I said "Holy shit! That's Dee Murray!". I used to play bass and he was a huge influence on me. His playing on the album Goodbye Yellowbrick Road is phenomenal!
What a great album! Some of the Best Elton/ Bernie Taupin songs ever, amazing production and arrangements, Davey Johnstone, Ray Cooper, Nigel Olson, Dee Murray...a phenomenal band and Elton at his finest. "All the Young Girls Love Alice", "Jamica Jerk Off","This Song Has No Title", "Funeral for A Friend/Love Lies Bleeding",and on and on.,
Yes,it was wasn't it!? I also love his "Captain Fantastic and the Brown Dirt Cowboy album! Pity that he broke the band up, on the very next album though!!
I agree with you. I like "Rock of the Westies" and "Blue Moves" but have never understood why he dumped Nigel and Dee. Nothing against Kenny Passerelli and Roger Pope, but if he wanted to expand the sound, he could have kept the original group together and just added Caleb Quaye and James Newton-Howard (what is really scary is that I just pulled all those names out of my memory. I guess I really am a fan).
What's even scarier is you even remembered how to spell "Passerelli"! Ha!! I seen Elton live in '80, with Dee,Nigel,& James Newton-Howard,but Davey was strangely absent on that '80 tour. Pity.
......no comment on the Drummer...that is Frankie C. LaRocka...born LaRocca. He grew up in Staten Island since he was 5 or 6. He was the first drummer (studio) for Jon... on that classic 'She's a Runaway'. The first time I heard it was 5 years ago exactly .. August 5th, 2003...when he popped it in his car and told me that was him playing for Jon. RIP Frankie.. he died at 51 on May 12th, 2005.
I'm so glad he's the front man now cause you just don't get to see him enough when they're the guitar player!! and I think he may have picked up some of her bouncy dance moves during this...lol
I prefer the version 1 of the video and song, here she looks wierd with the mullet hair. She was very pretty, but she didnt age gracefully, she looks old now, the same happened with Laura Branigan, but she died.
I saw Scandal in 1982 as they were the opening act for Hall & Oates here in NC. I fell in love with Patty and went out the next day and bought their EP which I still own today.
Dee Murray holy cow and Jon Bon Jovi? How did she pull that off? She was a local Brooklyn girl who played at Staten Island clubs in 1982! She was great but wha?
Well I think Patty is possibly the strongest voice of the 80's... but her style of music (pop)at the time didn't provide the opportunity to throw out the vocal theatrics afforded Ann Wilson. The singer couldn't overwhelm the song... that didn't happen until Mariah Carey came around doing her thing.
She was so talented,God what a voice.Loud, hot and smokey tones.I can't believe she married such an ugly dork like John McEnroe, what a waste of beauty.
Damn it, he's cute, uh, you know the cutie standing right behind Patti with the white shoes, um, I wondered who he could be? Oh, I know it's the Super Star JON BON JOVI.
I had a huge crush on her in the 80's and now I remember why.She was so pretty.I used to listen to the tracks of the warrior album all the time back then.Brings back a lot of memories.
I love it when she jumps up and down and moves side to side. That was kind of her signature move when the vocal got to a groovy part. LOVE IT! Thanks.
and that looks like the late dee murray on bass,he was elton's bassplayer on all the early hits...

Saw her open for Rod Stewart in 1992.
Her hips were wide as two axe handles and she sounded terrible. Her voice was exposed in person. Plus she had no showmanship.
Not a big RS fan but he was very professional and saved the night.
Was she with either Don Henly or Glen Frye at one time?
